Ali Michael better watch out, or Eleven might have some, well... not words, but really intense looks and possible harm in store for her... Seriously though, leave child actors alone, AND DON'T EVEN IF IT WAS MEANT TO BE A JOKE, HIT ON THEM. It's insane that that has to be said... bleh.

Philip DeFranco does no one remember what happened with the Olsen twins back in the thousands? Stuff like that was so common but we all freak out over a woman doing it to a teen guy? I am not saying it's okay, I'm saying this is an addition to the double standard. Even now so many people talk about the "catch me outside" girl Danielle Bregoli(?) and how they want to see her at 18 and that isn't a news story?
@mrtalos
@mrtalos 6 лет назад
Philip DeFranco There really is a double standard with men and women withe the whole "call me in X years" Thing is, it is actually quite likely that a 14 year old boy might be thinking that this is awesome, whereas a 14 year old girl would be horrified. There are reasons for this, I don't think that it's right, but I don't see it changing for a very long time.

Philip DeFranco I am 35 going to be 36 I am also a fan of the stranger things series that grown ass adult who waited outside fins hotel and got mad I find sad stupid and just outright creepy as hell. If you want an autographe that bad go to a damn meet or greet or comic con of the cast of stranger things are there don't be a creep creep

Actors attend a lot of events where fans can interact with them and get autographs, selfies, etc. Waiting outside someone's house is very creepy and should be treated as such.

Hotel or house, you're going to be spending time in there, sleeping and eating in there, you'd want to feel comfortable in doing so, right? It's a space where privacy must be respected, and obviously these selfish people don't understand that.

Still no actor or celebrity has to give anyone their autograph, it's their choice whether to do it or not, I don't think they should be penalized either over it, what are you going to do with that signature? Make money off of them? Throw it away or lose it eventually? Or will you actually keep it and preserve it?

They are friends. How dare she make a joke? "O, she didnt think of his age before making the joke, what a bitch". Sorry, she made a mistake by underestimating the internets fake outrage. Jordanious77 um, does it matter if they're 'friends?' No, it doesn't. He's still 14 and she's still 23. It's creepy as hell to make jokes like that about a child. Also, 'Help him with the ladies'? what kind of bullshit are you on?

Jordanious77 Finn himself stated that the incident with the model was creepy and made him feel awkward and uncomfortable. You're just as bad if you think she wasn't in the wrong to say that. NOTE that MOST people aren't trying to incriminate her, it's just not an appropriate thing to say to a child, no matter who the kid is.
@whosjason5493
@whosjason5493 6 лет назад
Jordanious77 Okay, can I chime in real quick? Let’s say it was an inside joke. If it was an inside joke, then it should *stay* an inside joke. Without context, or any understanding that it is joke, of course it would be received negatively. Yes, we don’t have a complete idea of the situation, I can agree on that. But this, small bit of it is still publicised. We know that she made a joke. But just because we don’t know what the situation was, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t able to make a judgement off of what we’ve seen. Not to mention the connotations with the phrase “hit me up.” Doesn’t that always mean that person is flirting with the other? Personally, I agree with Phil and Ali’s behaviour was inappropriate. But I respect your opinion, no matter how much I (and probably so many others) disagree.

I don't understand the crazy love of an actor/actress. When I get into a show, movie, book etc. I like the character, not the person playing them. Don't get me wrong actors/actresses are very talented and work hard, but I'm not going to try to seek them out when they are being their normal human self. They are just people doing their job bringing a character to life and possibly something they love to do. Just thoughts.

emily wallace If I️ got the chance to meet Tom Hanks is probably gush a lot because I️ just enjoy his acting, but I️ wouldn’t go track him down, and if I️ happened to spot him in public I️ wouldn’t chase him down. People like him, or Robin Williams, or any of the other actors who were so many different things that you see them as the person over the part are the kinds of actors that I️ really appreciate, specifically for their acting. I️ guess that doesn’t really help you understand because you’ve basically said the same thing, but maybe it’ll clear something up.

A viewer knows more about a character on a show than the actor playing that character. I think it is when the line between character and actor gets blurred in someone's mind that they become interested in the actor in a creepy way. They see the character being altruistic, witty, courageous, etc. and associate the actor as having the same characteristics. The viewer feels like the character is their friend or soulmate, so, in turn, they feel like the actor is their friend or soulmate.This is seen in the fans of RU-vidrs and singers, too.

Your example scenario with Millie Bobby Brown was actually kind of perfect, considering she's going through something similar. She was at some event walking the carpet, and her style had her looking "older" than her 13 years and someone one on Twitter got flak for saying she's "all grown up." My position in all of this has always been to leave child actors alone because, despite loving their work, I've always had no problem seeing them as kids first, actors second. I'd watch child actors on screen and think, "Oh, they're going somewhere some day, should they choose to stick with this."
@gottman861
@gottman861 6 лет назад
Why not just stop it all together, I mean child actors aren't the only actors who get fed up with media and fans trying to get something from them. Can't we just show the same curticy.

I agree with you so much. They’re just a kid. Any human, 1 month old to 100 years old deserves a break. I saw mike Tyson on a airplane, I didn’t bombard him. All I did was say hi. Personally, I do saw any actor that I like, I would just say hi and say that I like they’re acting.
@Jesser1975
@Jesser1975 6 лет назад
I think it’s polite to not bother an actor when they’re off the clock, period! I don’t want to be bothered with my job when I’m trying to eat supper or go home for the day. Harassing actors for autographs is no different. Save that for conventions, where they are paid to socialize with fans.

@daliatenani4389
@daliatenani4389 6 лет назад
Enya Marie Bustamante how do you avoid them if they’re waiting at the entrance of the hotel you’re staying? It’s not ok for the actor to HIDE from the fans, it’s ok for fans to learn to RESPECT actors as people first. If he doesn’t stand for his right at privacy now, he’s going to find fans hidden in his hotel room in a few years, like it happened to other very famous celebrities...

I feel like the paparazzi should be illegal. Or at least the ones that stalk actors in their homes and follow them 24/7. If it were any other person, non-celebrity, that would be considered stalking and harassment and there would be legal consequences, but because they're celebrities suddenly it's acceptable? This of course shows other people, like fans of the celebrities, that this behavior is accepted in society and its OK to do that. Paparazzi should have a line that they cannot cross: show up to big shows and events, the kinds all celebrities attend. Take your pics, ask your questions, fine. But when it comes to everyday life, you cannot follow them and intrude on their personal lives. They need privacy and security too.

+DOYUFEELITMISTERKRABS Actually, the fans are what make people famous. Without the viewers following the show the series (and actors within it) would not gain notoriety and the world at large would not care about them and they would not be offered future work because their past work has not been able to attract attention. Does this mean that the actor owes anything to the fans? No, of course not; however, PR is a game that all actors have to play and if the actor makes a point of not even acknowledging fans, then his PR will suffer and future work will suffer because of it.

Sadly a random adult fan wanting to take a pic with a 14 year old actor seems to be way less harmful than what we have seen the actual adult Hollywood figures in these kids lives doing to them. Neither are good but one is way way worse. I want all adults to know that somehow forgot...Kids that act mature or look like adults are still kids, as well as less mature kids. Kids are not small adults. They are different biologically and emotionally no matter the circumstance.

Imagine if that kid was yours or you.

I have a very good sense of humor, better than most normal people sense of humor. I always try and find the comedy in everything that I see be it tragic or even unfunny, I will find a way to either make it funny to me or others. What I'm trying to say is I have a superior sense of humor to most people and that matters when I share my opinions on something as subjective and diverse as humor. AND THIS IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL, I DICTATE WHAT PEOPLE FIND FUNNY!

I find this whole concept of being ‚deserving‘ of anything from famous people, because they owe you, a little troublesome. I’m seeing this concept everywhere, especially on RU-vid and it’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m not watching your show because I’m trying to do you a favour, I’m watching because I enjoy the content. An adult should be able to understand that nobody owes him anything for finding a thing that he enjoys. The real sad thing is this man felt so right, that he posted this embarrassing statement on twitter. How this could have happened is beyond me and I’m not even taking the whole child actor thing into account. Nobody should stalk or sexualise children, sad to think people are actually surprised by that.

I agree with you here. Recently so many people take everything so seriously and act like it's a chance to "teach society." Honestly it's just annoying. It's a joke people, and if you're offended by something as small as this, please spend some time on reddit or 4chan to realize that these kind of jokes are not something that are super uncommon. If she starts acting creepy and follows him or hits on him in person, that's one thing, but she simply posted something on the internet that amounts to "I think he's good looking." It seems fewer and fewer people today can take a joke, I even feel like at a different time Phil would've defended her saying it's a joke. Not everything someone says online is a life or death serious situation people. Lighten up a bit, did you really think the she was gonna try to sleep with the kid?

Astheon GMR i personally didnt enjoy the episode as much as i wish i did obviously finn wont be able to make the jokes expected from gg expecially with this agents censoring profanity but i did enjoy the episode for how well arin and danny we able to adjust to his comedy and save some of the jokes that would have fallen flat. my biggest issue was i felt finn made some jokes overstay their welcome, i get hes a fan of theirs so he was probably just happy to be there making jokes with comedians he enjoys. i hope in maybe a year or two he will come back with his humor more developed which i can tell already tell will be intresting. obviously hes only 14 so i cant expect him to be a grand joke/story telling master but hes off to a good start.

If you're in public, you have zero legal right to privacy. And yes, that does come with the job, whether actors want it to or not. The choice, if someone doesn't want people following them taking pictures, is to not become an actor, or musician, etc. I dislike paparazzi, and have no interest what actor is dating who, or pregnant, or whatever, but they have to expect them, and fans, to take pictures if you're in public. It would be nice if there were restrictions on flashing lights from cameras, and/or distance they have to maintain, but that would be difficult to balance legally/constitutionally and might just create actors as a superior protected class.
@vinylpony7835

Thank you for discussing this inappropriate behaviour regarding the Stranger Things actors. I’ve been disgusted and concerned by the sexualisation of these actors. We saw it with the Harry Potter actors and society hasn’t gotten better. Millie Bobby Brown is now under scrutiny at the age of 13 for how she is “growing up”, her clothes and hair being assessed. Magazines are putting her in a list of sexiest women on TV. They are children, they are people, not characters!

Actually, the fans are what make people famous.

If you look closely at the video of Finn you can see that the first time he seems to just be in a rush and casually says "Oh hey" before getting in the car, but the second time (which judging by the lighting seems to be much later) he rushes in and just says "No" when they ask for a picture. It's pretty clear the first time he thought they were just fans but the second time he realized they were insane stalkers. Also apparently he liked the tweet that the stalker dude posted. Say what you want about his acting but the dude knows comedy.

Deliberately waiting for a 'star' (actor/youtuber- whomever) in a place where they haven't publicly said "Hey come meet me here!" is creepy in my opinion. If you bump into them in public, be freaking polite, ask permission to hug/photo/video and if they say no- *respect* their wishes! Why is that so freaking hard to understand!?! If you wouldn't want it done to YOU, don't do it to others.

Yes. I appreciate these people for what they do, their work. I went to a festival to see my favourite artist performing. I'm a huge fan of their music. But I wasn't in the front row. Why? Because I came in for the show that they've crafted and worked for. So I stood in about the middle for the best sound quality and visibility of the visuals without straining my neck. Now I do like to watch interviews just to understand what goes in their head when they make this art, but that doesn't mean I need to be in close physical proximity with them.

I never understood the "we made you famous, you owe your fans" thing. The studio hired an actor that is providing content that you are consuming. Just because you like it doesn't automatically mean you made their career, it just means you like the work they are being paid to do. If I went to a restaurant and order a steak, eat it, and like it, that doesn't mean the cook who made it owes me anything, all it means is that the restaurant made a good hiring decision.

I love the fact that people always excuse their creepy fan behaviour with the classic "It comes with the job". You know what? Your right, unfortunatelly it does! But you know what else? It shouldn't! Its a shitty thing to do, the same way I can go out with a short skirt and most likely will endure comments and shit from people even if I shouldn't, the fact that people are shit and behave like shit doesn't excuse them at all, it's still not ok and people are still on their right to say no and object, sorry.

On the Finn Wolfhard story... I could definitely understand if they were 13 year old fan girls waiting outside of someone’s hotel etc. It happens. Some people are ruthless to even have eye contact with a favorite celebrity but it goes a little too far with grown men and women. It’s inappropriate and just straight gross. If I were Finn. I'll actually chime in to ask people not to condescend children. They aren't dumb or incompetent. Just immature. Having half of the world hit on them and the other half tell them they're victims doesn't help. Either portion of that. He's a kid, sure, but he's not THAT young. He definitely knows about the birds and the bees, and if his parents didn't prepare him a little bit for "creepiness" then they've not paid any attention to the horror stories of child actors. He can DEFINITELY handle an attractive model making a crass joke. He'll probably brag about it, and this is ALSO normal and nothing to be ashamed about. People need to separate fantasy from reality, and if he's NOT fantasising at his age, I'd be VERY surprised. (I had VERY vivid sexual fantasies from a very young age and the HUGE crush on my teacher at age 8, for instance) He could also certainly handle things a LOT worse than this (being hit on in person my an adult with authority over him) because, and I'll reiterate this: KIDS ARE NOT FRAGILE NOR STUPID. If he's victimised, then we need to worry, but dealing with a bit of creepiness? Not as big a deal as people make out. We just need to do what Defranco advises. Reverse the roles to see if "it's still okay" and correct behaviour. This isn't predatory or criminal. Just ill advised, weird and (if left uncriticised) can embolden actual predators to act with impunity. (and for the record: there ARE instances of grown ass women having sex with boys as young, or younger, than Finn and completely avoiding custodial sentences. I'd rather people save their outrage for that and not some model implying she'd fuck him when he's legal)

When I was a kid, that was kinda a normal thing to say to a teen. I had a few grownups saying something to that extend, or the "If I was your age at this stage" and I am not famous at all. I never thought that it was creepy, it isn't as if they would literly do anything. It is another way so saying you're kinda cute. I just told one of my cousins children that he is rather handsom and that I'm glad I didn't have him as competition when I was his age. These days this becomes a problem. She wasn't realy hitting on him. She mentioned that they have an age difference, and therefore nothing will happen but he is rather cute. It use to be a safe way of complementing a teen.

Finn has anxiety. Just like a lot of Americans/teenagers. I have it too, and things can get a little too much sometimes. He’s 14. He needs his space just like any other human being. Any RESPECTFUL and RIGHT MINDED person would not bombard him, or anyone when it’s clear they’re in a rush or isn’t in the best mood and doesn’t want to stop for fans. They also wouldn’t bash on him if he declines a picture or autograph. There is an appropriate and inappropriate time to ask for those things. Again, if you use common knowledge, and observation, you’d know when those times are ;) If he declines, he isn’t being ungreatful or rude. You don’t know how his day has been. Maybe he’s stressed, maybe he’s tired, maybe he’s late. Maybe all this chaos triggers his ANXIETY and just wants to get to his room so he can finally have a moment alone, away from the chaos, not constantly being watched and photographed everywhere he goes and have screaming fans yelling at him everywhere he looks. AGAIN USE COMMON KNOWLEDGE/SENSE. Smfh. Give some respect. 🤦🏼‍♀️😒

There's a video on the Ellen Show RU-vid channel where the boys from Stranger Things play the Heads Up game. The comments section is filled with people -- some claiming to be teenage girls, others admitting to being adults -- talking about how good looking/sexy they are. My immediate reaction was to swap the genders and consider what the response would be if hundreds of men and teenage boys said those things about 13/14 year old girls. There's a huge double standard here. Thanks for bringing that double standard to a wider audience.
@Biskwyy
@Biskwyy 6 лет назад
What are you talking about? This outrage is the very reason why double standard is getting lesser in our society. So is the Ellen twitter news with Katy Perry. Our world is opening up. People are actually getting mad at females for being inappropriate or sexually provocative regardless of who they're or how hot they're. Stop spreading misinformation and act like our society isn't healing. It is, at least towards the double standard towards females.

to anyone who may see this: is it creepy for a fan the same age as the stranger things kids to think they're attractive? bc all this news is making me feel weird about finding the whole child cast attractive (I'm their age if that wasn't clear)
@Biskwyy
@Biskwyy 6 лет назад
I don't find adults thinking a child as attractive -as- is a problem. It is a problem when a adult is attracted to a child. Now there is a difference. A father could think his daughter as attractive, someone beautiful. But the very same father being attracted to his daughter is essentially sick, and disgusting as conformed to societal normalcy. Same goes to any other cases. Attractiveness is just displaying fine features physically, or even psychologically. Someone could be a child, and be very eloquent and it could also come up as attractive trait or quality. But it doesn't mean I'm attracted to him/her. However, in this case, she is definitely inappropriate. As to your question, i don't see a problem finding a child attractive. Just don't be attracted, if not that is another whole new problem.
@Whofan06

I think by seeing child actors in those situations it really sheds light on how awful we treat celebrities and how much we invade their privacy. Like if you think the kids should be treated that way becaude all celebritied are, then maybe you should reconsider the latter part of that.

The Stranger Things debacle reminds me of when the Sun newspaper published Emma Watson turning 16 (legal age of consent in the UK) on their FRONT PAGE on her birthday. Ugh. I'm so glad this is now getting called out. Yes, you might think a 14 year old child actor "will grow up to be so handsome/beautiful", but you don't have to SAY that, to them, when they clearly don't want it. It's possible to keep thoughts to yourself and not creep everyone else the fuck out...

I don't get why people are telling others to "Stop being offended" concerning the Finn story. It's not people being offended, it's people finding what Ally said to be disturbing and potentially predatory. You can't exactly tell people to stop being offended at that. If anything, you should be telling people that they're reading into it too much. Was the comment inappropriate, though? Sure, I believe so. In my eyes it would've been different had it been an 18 year old saying that to a 14 year old since the age difference is only 4 years, but we have a woman in her mid twenties telling a 14 year old to hit her up when he's an adult as if she find him attractive already. Was it intentionally pedophilic? No. Maybe inherently, but I HIGHLY doubt Ally would actually have sexual intentions for Finn rather than that she was just trying to compliment him. It's more like you're giving a box of chocolates to a girl you like on Valentine's day, but you throw the box at her. Good intent, bad delivery.

Looking at it, considering it's Phil (y'know the guy who wants child predators to die in a fire? And is a dad, which is partly why he has this stance?) I'd think him saying "Millie is a beautiful little girl" would be as a compliment rather than something with sexual intent, and more well received than if it were, say, DJ Khaled who said that. Not saying he's a pedo but I haven't really heard him say "child predators should die in a fire." And looking back at my original comment, I think I flip-flopped a bit; I honestly don't know what to side with on this issue XD

On the child actor story: Why the hell do we put Actors and entertainers on such a high pedestal but throw scientists/poets/writers/artists/etc... to the wayside? There are ENTIRE shows dedicated to snooping into their lives. They do their job, they get paid, they go home. Same with as any one of us. Do we seriously need to know every facet of their personal lives off screen? It only gets worse when they pass away. I literally saw more people RIP'ing Muhammad Ali than Maya Angelou. How??

Logitekz actors play roles you are supposed to connect with giving you a artificial closeness to them. Once they stop being in roles you don’t feel that anymore unless they stared in something close to you. Muhammad Ali was a pro fighter and boxing itself is a big part of a lot of people’s lives. Most people can’t appreciate acting as a act but people can with boxing.

To me, theres a fine line between looking at Finn (or really any cute/handsome teenager), who is undoubtedly a good looking kid, and thinking "wow, he's gonna grow up to be a hit with the ladies" and writing "not to be weird but hit me up in four years". The latter seems to imply, at least for me, that you're already sexually attracted to the kid and the only thing holding you back is not his age, but rather the law. That is weird.

Ryan Desmond It seems the only real difference between those two situations is that one is a private thought, and the other is voiced. The second can also imply you think you may be attracted to them in four years, but you're not now. That being said, it's still a bad idea to voice even that, because kids are even more sensitive to other's expectations of them, and we should do everything we can to take the pressure off of child actors to please everyone.

I love how the fans always think that the artist owes them something. The artists do what they are good at and what they love doing, it gets published they get paid and you are the one who consumes it because you like the content. How does that amount to them being grateful for the fans? It should be the other way around, the fans should be careful not to alienate the artist so that he/she doesn't stop being so public with their work.
