One of my favorite memories of going to a Blockbuster was renting episodes from the “Goosebumps” tv series, they were mostly the two part episodes. So when I heard that there was still one Blockbuster left in Bend, Oregon I arranged a trip, it was a long trip, but it was worth it. I bought a movie, candy, drinks and even Blockbuster merchandise that simply says “last Blockbuster on the planet”. I even got a replica of a Blockbuster membership made for me. I made this trip in May of 2019. I highly recommend checking the place out if no one has already.

4 for $20 for DVD's is a rip-off now, but back then, it was a Steal. I used to buy all of my movies at Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. Also, We had this store called Movie Trading Co., and it was amazing. They had a huge selection for buying VHS and DVD's (Before Blu Ray's) and Video Games. It was seriously an Experience going into any of these stores. something that is lost today. Thankfully FamilyVideo is still opened. Renting movies reminds me of when I started dating my wife in high school in 2005. We went to Hollywood video, probably renting exclusively rom-coms, and did the OG "Netflix and chill". As a kid, I'd go into West Coast Video and Blockbuster and walk the horror aisle to get scared by the cover art. Also I can't believe Chris hasn't seen Wes Craven's New Nightmare. That's a very solid movie.

@BDog54

I think the loss of DVD and rental culture in terms of movies has really changed our appreciation of the medium. When a film can sit on a shelf like a possession or a collectable, it seems so much more valuable than when its simply an electronic file or such like on Netflix. I used to love collecting my favourite box sets and devouring a set of TV shows/ movies. My local video store in the 90s had an aura about it, I can remember seeing videos like 'A Nightmare Before Xmas' sat in the dusty 'cupboard under the stairs' part of the store and it provided a spooky atmosphere that enticed me to watch it. Movies like that were imprinted in my memory. Nowadays, we are a binge watch, 'watch it once and forget it' culture, where old DVDs are being sold in charity shops for 50p and that video shop culture is quickly fading. It's why Vinyl records have made a comeback, partly because of hipsters but also because the vinyl record is an experience, an almost painterly canvas sized appreciation of the artist's music, rather than an MP3 or Spotify stream with little lasting impression. Even CDs went out of fashion, partly from digital downloads, but because for many they didn't live up to the epicness of a vinyl record, both in sound and imagery.

I 100% understand what they mean in this video. I miss being able to go to my local store(Blockbuster) and rent something. I just generally love watching movies. My earliest memory is walking back to my dad's car with my hands in my pocket and I fell face first into the concrete. My sister was laughing at me while my face was still face down on the concrete. My lip was swollen to the size of a carrot and I had a bloody nose and I chipped my tooth. But my ALL TIME FAVORITE memory of a rental store is I would always walk in and walk down the aisles but I would always stop in the aisle with JAWS. My mom would tell me everytime that the movie was rated R and that I was too young to see the movie. Until one day, I was 13. I had been going to blockbuster since I was 13. I had been going there like every 2ish weeks. And I walked straight to the aisle with JAWS. And for once I picked up the case and turned it over to look at the rating for the first time in 8 years since I first walked into the store. It was rated PG. I walked over to my mom and said we are getting this and she said the same thing she always said and I said look at the rating. The look on her face was PRICELESS.

I remember being an incompetent child and wanting to seek out Arnie films and remembered my friend told me he was in an alien movie but I didn't know which one... It was either Alien or Predator.. so I split the difference and rented AVP. Regrets were had that day.

Why does Stuckman always look dead or like a zombie. He shows no emotion even when he was screaming in the intro. Kinda creepy tbh

He never used to be that way. Just watch some of his older videos. I just think he's under the impression that he's an alternate reality version of Leonard Maltin who makes short films. In other words: the pretensiousness is strong with this one. I'm happy Chris is living his dream, but it seems to have affected his personality...thus making him come off as stifled, robotic and pretensious.

The Adventures of Flicky and Sticky (coming this fall). Back in 07' ish I broke up with my lady of 5 years. She used the "you'll never find happiness without me" line..... That weekend the insanely attractive girl at the blockbuster counter was being overly flirtatious, so I explained I was newly single and invited her over to #blockbuster and chill!!! I told her to bring a few movies, and she accepted my invite. After her shift she arrived at my house with 3 movies id never watched before. Lucky # Slevin, Hard Candy, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! 3 badass movies, with a badass girl. Was in my early 20s then and know the experience will never be replicated due to the fall rental facilities. However that is my experience, and a memory that I'll have forever because of my connection with my favorite movie place. Great videos guys. Content is fantastic.

My family video in Dyer, Indiana is closing this week. All blurays are $2. I just bought 50 blurays tonight. What a bargain. I feel bad for their demise, but to the victor goes the spoils. I also picked up a few ps4 games for cheap. This was our last video store in town, so it was a win, lose situation. I guess disc replay is my last resort for used movies.
