having a baby shower for our first baby was something I always imagined, but things are definitely different being pregnant in 2021. Today I'm chatting about why we're not having a baby shower, and we take you stroller shopping with us as we go look at the uppa baby vista v2 and the nuna tavo stroller to decide which stroller we should buy!

About Sierra and Stephen IRL
Hey friends! I’m Sierra Schultzzie and this is my vlog channel with my husband, Stephen. We started vlogging 4 years ago to document planning our wedding and growing together as a young married couple, and the channel has now really become our passion project. We love creating travel vlogs, disneyland vlogs, showing behind the scenes of creating my fashion videos, and all the little ups and downs of our unfiltered, real life. I'm so touched by your request for people to donate to charities instead of gifting you things. This is such a tough time to be pregnant (Im 38 weeks with my first) but you really have a great head on your shoulders. You're so compassionate! I did have an entirely virtual shower, which helped with feeling celebratory and defraying costs, but I totally respect your position.

How could ANYONE hate on sierra. She is literally an Angel. She doesn’t even ask for anything and people want to send her stuff and she asks to send stuff to charity instead. She is so cautious during this time when no one seems to care and she never says anything mean or negative. Seriously an Angel. I love you girl💜

Seems crazy to me that it’s even a thing people are getting to choose to do or not to do during a pandemic! The government here in Ireland have given us explicit recommendations and rules to follow which makes it much easier when it comes to social events, they’re just not allowed. The majority of people don’t question it and are following all recommended rules. Seems better than leaving it up to individual discretion!

@@janiceosullivan3337 In the States the government has recommended to not do in person things, but you are allowed to to a certain extent and with precautions They definitely could have done something outside with masks, but I think her point is if she can’t have an actual shower with lots of people and hugging and eating now, she would rather just wait until she can.

@@janiceosullivan3337 in Ohio things are lifting. We were having 10,000 positive cases to 1300. We have about 12 million people that live here. Healthcare, Teachers, 60 and up have are allowed to get the vaccine. I AM NOT SAYING IT'S OK. My family is definitely doing what we can to distance. I was just explaining why soical events are allowed.

We are having a small "drive up" shower for local immediately family and a few very close friends. Then we are having a "mail in" shower for coworkers, other friends and non local family. Its the best compromise we could find. I am 29 weeks tomorrow.

My parents waited to have a "shower" until after I was born and they called it a Welcome to the World party! Everyone said they preferred that way more because they actually got to meet the baby!

We don't have baby showers at all where I live. Instead we have a little party like your parents did after the baby has born or people come on different days. It depends on the parents preference. Makes more sense to me that way :D

I think it's great that you're not accepting gifts from your fans since you don't need the financial help purchasing baby items. Encouraging donations to moms in need instead is wonderful. I will say I attended a zoom baby shower last summer for a friend. I expected it to be awkward and kind of depressing and it was surprisingly fun! It was expecially nice because I live so far away from her I couldn't have attended an in person shower anyway. I completely understand you wanting to skip it though since you cant have the shower you always imagined. I am due in august and I'm not sure what I'll do. Since it will be summer and we have a huge yard we might do an in person one outside since the grandparents should all be vaccinated by then and we don't have a lot of people to invite anyway. We'll have to see how things are.

It took me 28 years and Sierra saying it to realize that my mom was always saying "sip 'n see" when she was referring to what she did instead of a shower for me and my brother. I always thought she was saying like siphancy or something and I thought it was something religious that I just never encountered again in my life

I have been one of those people asking if there was anywhere I could send a small gift, because it truly feels like you are my friend and I am so happy to be on this pregnancy journey with you!! When you began to say you guys dont need anything I was bummed because I really wanted to send a little something for baby girl, but after you shedded light on mothers in need and donating to families who are truly in need, as oppose to sending you guys something, it made me smile. Totally agree with your reasoning to not do a shower! I'm due in April and it was tough to explain to friends and family why even virtual showers didn't sit well. It's weird times currently and my husband and I never wanted anybody to feel obligated to buy us gifts when we know we are the rare exception of remaining financially stable during the pandemic! So we are planning a "BabyBQ" as a meet and great in the summer when hopefully things are settled down! 🤞🤞🤞

Sierra I know how you feel about the baby shower! My husband and I struggled to get pregnant for over 4 years and now we finally are and it’s just bittersweet because it’s kind of tough going through this feeling mostly alone (husband can’t go to any appointments with me). We are still kind of hoping for an in person or virtual shower (I’m due in July) but it’s just up in the air for now. The thing I’ve always been most excited about with having a shower is seeing and hugging friends and loved ones, taking pics together, sharing our happiness so it’s hard to think that we won’t be able to do that ❤️ Wishing you and Stephen the best!

So with my second (she is 9 now) we had a sip and see, and it was the best time. We already had everything we needed so this was an opportunity for family and friends to meet our little girl. People who wanted to bring her a gift, got to actually give it to her. We also asked for people to donate to her college fund if they wanted to give gifts... and books. We also had a book shower. Everyone gave my babies books to read through their lives, and each book has a hand written note to the child from the giver. They are priceless now. 💕

I just wanted to thank you for showing what a kind, considerate and compassionate person you are, Sierra. You are doing everything you can to use your platform to promote ways for us all to work together to end this pandemic. You know you could create content that would get a lot of clicks, you are sacrificing your ideal pregnancy and all that entails, and I know that it must be hard but you’re doing it because you know it’s the right thing to do. Thank you. And I will say, when I was pregnant with my first in 2009, my husband and I lived 1000+ miles from home, just us. So I also didn’t have a shower and yes, at times I’m slightly wistful that I didn’t have that experience but mostly, it doesn’t matter. While it was the hardest thing I’d done, to be pregnant and give birth with only my husband there, it also brought us so close as a couple. We learned to rely on and trust each other as parents with our darling boy. Those few months when it was just us 3 are truly magical. You’re doing great, and you’ll BE great as a mama ❤️

Hi Sierra, I wanted to say congratulations on your rainbow baby! 🌈 also as a buybuy baby associate of 6 years, I wanted to give you guys a few helpful tips to make the Vista V2 even easier fold down! I ALWAYS recommend locking the stroller so it stays stationary while folding. Another great tip is that if you fully extend the handle bar before folding the stroller down, it acts as a kick stand thus allowing the stroller not to fall to the ground! Just wanted to share those tips with you! I love both of your channels and you always bring a smile to my face when I watch you!

Quick tip for the stroller. Have the extension bar extended out whenever folding it so that it can stand on it’s own which will make it easier to grab to put into the car. That way it won’t lean and fall. Also makes it nice to have it folded and put against a wall at home so that it doesn’t take too much space

This brought tears to my eyes. I can so relate. I had my shower set for mid January 2020. But went into the hospital the day after Christmas with pre-term labor. Baby stayed in, but because I was dilated 3cm the entire month of January, we delayed the shower. Baby was due Feb. 15th. The Shower was Feb. 8th and baby came January 29th. LOL!! So the shower was after he arrived. And my goodness, just in time because we didn't have enough for him. That's not my point here. My maternity leave ended the second week of March and I was preparing to go back into work with baby in tow. I have a job that makes it easy to have a tiny one there. My coworkers spent the first week helping me rearrange the office ot bring baby in. The next week... pandemic is creeping in. Lockdown is looming. My husband spent that entire week setting it up for me to work 100% from home now. For baby's health. Other than seeing people from my door and chatting distantly, that was it. That's all the socializing this new mom and baby got after he was born. I don't really know what more to say than that. It's been hard, but he's been a blessing. I've been able to throw everything I am into raising him and getting him developed and growing healthily. Even while remoting into work. I have tried not to ponder too hard about what we've missed out on. Every time I do, I fear the tears won't stop. These are strange times. Keep going, from where I sit it appears you're doing great! I can't wait for you to fall in love with your little girl once she's in your arms. You think you love her now, just wait... it gets better. Over and over again. ❤️

I feel you 100% on the baby shower thing, I canceled mine as well I couldn’t imagine having something without my mom being right next to me, and I’m Mexican so I couldn’t imagine having to exclude anyone from my family to avoid having too many ppl, I always imagined if I had one it would be big and full of family, but it’s ok ima have a very big 1st birthday and also I was blessed with soooo many ppl who care that got me things from my registry so for now just staying happy, healthy, and safe!!!

I’m 32 weeks pregnant and I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you talking about not having a baby shower. My husband and I also decided against a baby shower altogether. I had a bit of a meltdown last week about not having one just because I feel like we’re missing out on a rite of passage of sorts. It just so refreshing to hear our thoughts spoken out loud by someone with a platform. Makes me feel less alone in having to make these decisions. So, thank you.

Fully recommend getting the second seat. That way if you need one for second baby they match and there's no chance your color or style will be discontinued.

One thing I realized whiles she was explaining about the sip and see so cute, Sierra family must love these videos now at least they get to keep up with her in pregnancy. I mean I’m sure they talk but this is a nice second glimpse.

It is so great to see that the newborn pram top faces to the parents-this is so important a parent psychologist told my mum so the parents can connect with the child as you walk to help with developing talking and emotional stability unlike the one where the baby is facing away and to strangers.

Listening to you talk about what you are doing about a baby shower was my exact feels. My son was born in august 2020. He’s our first baby and we did not have a baby shower. We got pregnant December 2019 so the pandemic was not a thing and had no idea what was about to happen. He’s almost 6 months and we still have yet to do anything in the way of celebrating our baby boy and it makes me sad but I’m going “big” for his first birthday. Hopefully we can have loads of people at his first birthday but if we can’t it’s still going to be big with decorations, gifts, loads of photos, and memories.

My husband is a left handed engineer and the exact same way as Stephen! He learned to cut with his right hand. Also, my husband did about 4 hours of research to get to the conclusion of the stroller I decided on in 1 minute (thanks to a friends recommendation).

I have the Uppaby Vista. I love love love it!! I can do a whole grocery shop in the basket and can push it over all terrain. And now that I have 2 kids it's great having the attachment.

Feel confident about that Vista! Former Nordstrom baby gear manager here, and as good as the Tavo is, the Vista is a big step up, and about the same weight! It’s the stroller we sold most, and my personal favorite.

Hi Sierra!! 🍓🍍🫐 I loved the uppa baby vista but I highly recommend looking into the baby jogger city select lux stroller. It offers everything that the vista does but the main difference is the V2 weight limit on the rumble seat is lower than the main seat meaning if and when you do have a second baby they will have to go on the lower portion of the stroller and for me that was a deal breaker because I do want my kids close in age. In addition, we purchased Baby Jogger’s car seat which is very similar to a britax, by wayyyyy lighter in my opinion AND it has the seat belt path just in case baby rides in a different vehicle, the base is not necessary. We have had our Baby Jogger City Go car seat and City Select Lux for 7 months, that’s how old baby is, and it has been amazing! (Granted we cannot go places like we planned since the pandemic hit but still it’s been awesome for when we do use it!) i really hope you come across this comment just as additional tool. I love your videos and seem to be like such a nice and genuine person, I wish nothing but the best for you, Steven and baby girl ♥️♥️♥️

Try locking the wheels when you close up the stroller. It'll keep it from rolling around when setting it up/taking it down. So happy for yall💗

Also a first time mom and the best purchase we made was this vista v2 stroller package. I wanted to get a cheaper stroller but my husband wanted this one, and we are SO glad we got this one. All of my friends have Graco strollers and say it isn't as smooth and the carseat doesn't latch as nice. Great choice you are going to love it!!!!
