OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY: One of the questions we were getting after our laundry video is why a wringer washer? They said " if you are using a generator, why not use a regular washer"? Well we tackle those questions and a few more

Washing clothes outside with a wringer washer and hanging the clothes on a line outside is some of the most peaceful moments in ones life ❤️

Wringer washers are still the best. I used one when I was a teenager. They wash better than ANYTHING!! Great video!

Nearly eighty years ago, When I was just a kid, my father bought my mother a Maytag wringer washing machine, which we kept in the basement. My great aunt Nettie and my Aunt Bea came over to use the machine to demonstrate how it works, My Aunt showed us her superior way of twisting the garments with all her force to get the water out of the fabric. Aunt Bea got her arm stuck in the wringer. She was screaming until my father showed her how to reverse the roller, and she was quickly freed, unharmed.

off grid in virginia and using one given to us. I am 64 and this is my first time using one. I love it. using a pulley system clothesline. My grandson said it is too much work when I told him. I hate laundromats and this is cleansing more than my clothes. I am so happy here. As I write this I am canning green beans and potatoes in an outdoor kitchen with propane and the view is spectacular

I lived off-grid for ten years with three kids! Here's what I learned about laundry. I only loved my ringer in the summertime until I got a dorm-size washer (holds more than you can imagine) And it runs perfectly with a silent 1000 watt solar generator. For the off-griders, you can fill it with buckets of water. I pumped the water my hand with my pitcher pump. Have fun... love you guys!

My grandparents raised 10 kids and as often as we were all at their house you could say they raised all 50+ of my generation of grandkids....all on a wringer washer and a clothes line that was used year around! It just worked, no hassle or breakdowns or need to drive 30 miles to a laundry mat. It was awesome :)

Im somewhat supprised that you don't have one of those new hand crank washers. Jamesway they might be called. Have either of you had your arms go up the wringer? That's a rite of passage for oldtimers like me when we were LITTLE kids.Mom would do the whites first in the clean water. When she was done with them she would run them through the wringer into the wash tub with blueing in it if I remember rightly. Mrs Stewarts blueing with a wood cork. Then she would put in the shirts, ect. While they were washing she would then slosh the whites around for a minute then swing the wringer to a 45@ and run the whites through it into a basket. then she/we would take them out to the line and hang them up. The clothes line was a wire woven clothes line Run between a couple posts and a couple trees.

I have a wringer washer I found at a antique store. The motor still hums along and great backup if the house washer goes out. I knew it in my barn and roll it to the over head door and fill with a hose.

I remember my Grandmothers wringer machine. It was up on a deck. There was a washtub with rinse water. I also got her treadle sewing machine and used it.

Hey Doug & Stacey; this video is several years ago but just in case, thought I'd mention the MLS (Magnetic Laundry System) that is a pair of magnets that you put on the washer tub. I have mine on opposite sides and have been amazed at how clean they get the laundry! No soap, only stain remover for those tough stains and some bleach (or you can use borax and hydogen peroxide, etc). So instead of having to do FOUR rinses to get all the soap out, now I just do one cycle and it's done! The most amazing thing is my white socks had permanent stains on the bottoms---or so I thought---but one run through with just water and bleach took out all of those "permanent" stains. I was shocked...even stain remover, soap, and bleach hadn't taken those out. My "laundry days" went from all day for 2 days to half a day, one day. My clothes are softer and smell-free (I hate those fabric softeners that leave that chemical stench people think is so wonderful).

My mom used a wringer washer when I was a kid. We hauled water to fill the washer and use two tubs rinish the clothes before the were hung on the clothes line. No big deal when you grew up that way. Great video:)

IF a Maytag isn't affordable to a viewer, you might share with people from Amazon you can buy a wash tub and a scrub board, also a detachable wringer that sits on top a metal tub to watch and rinse. Pre-soaking clothes and stirring the clothes will remove dirt. The tub can be hung on wall, and the detachable wringer can be stored easily too. Offering OPTIONS other than what you are using is always appreciated.

I would love a wringer washer. My husband thinks Im crazy for wanting to know how to get by in an off grid way. We are in our early 60s and he wants things to be easier not harder. Hopefully he will come around.

My mother used a wringer washer until after all of us had moved out and started our own families. We girls never had to do laundry though. When younger, she didn't want us to get our hand caught and our arm rolled up to our armpit. When we got older, she didn't want us to ruin our hands in bleach water. I thought that was great, until I started doing my own laundry and had no idea how to remove stains! But I learned rather quickly and she did teach us how to sort the clothes. Your laundry videos have been a pleasant stroll down memory lane and they brought a smile.
