In the next general election, the newly implemented gender quotas will probably mean that the number of women elected in parliament will be artificially inflated. We think that Maltese women deserve better than this.

I am strongly against quotas in every field. Quotas are deeply unfair since they, in general, allow someone something that he/she does not deserve. In this context, I don't see a point to make 40% members of parliament of one sex since that led to only 20% of MP's being democratically elected. This is even more obvious in the countries where candidate lists have more candidates (than 5 like in Malta). This "solution" also serve as an excuse for solving "a problem". The first of all, I don't see it as a problem for parliament to be constituted of MPs of whatever sex. Everything from 100% males to 100% females is OK to me as long as MPs are elected in a democratic manner. The second of all, quotas are very problematic. In addition to what I've already said, it is possible to concieve that some job (politics in this example) is not equally interested to members of both sexes giving the chance to a person of less interested sex additional advantage. In my case, female are far more interested in working in the field I work, so the quota system would give me, as a male, unfair advantage. In politics the situation is, obviously, the opposite. Instead of "solving a problem" by inflicted even more injustice, the appropriate approach is to animate people of both sexes to get involved in what they consider interesting to them. Whether that would result in 50:50 division or not is irrelevant. What is important is that everyone has the same chances regardless of sex (or any other characteristics). That being said, I see that, besides the women more often study than men and besides, what is extremely, over 80% of students of chemistry are female, there are still efforts in place that would bring even more female students to choose STEM areas which is obviously ridiculous.

1:40 it's also possible that they don't get elected as often because a lot of them just aren't good politicians
