I have wanted a Dolby Atmos demo disc ever since I finished my home theater. Unfortunately genuine copies are difficult to find. I took a risk and bought a copy online. Is it real or is it fake?
I agree but I think it would have to be either built into some storage space on the avr or a download as no one really wants to ship discs in instances like this nowadays.
I've owned both a legit copy and a bootleg copy of the 2016 Dolby Atmos Demo Disc. That case is definitely not the original. I got mine from eBay and it was substantially more expensive when I picked it up. There should be a bar code etched into the plastic interior ring on the underside of the disc. That's the sure fire way to know if it is a glass mastered, pressed disc. If you look at the bottom and see any kind of "color" on the disc and a distinct line that goes all the way around, it's usually a sign of a burned disc. All that being said, Audiosphere is my favorite demo on that disc. The 2018 DA Demo Disc has a cool section of Atmos on/off that I like as well.
Not sure if you know, if you have a windows PC or laptop, the dolby app has all the demos and some newer ones not found on older demo discs. All you need to do is setup dolby atmos on your laptop or PC and connect via an HDMI.
Just wanted to say I've been watching your stuff now for the last couple months and you have rocketed to one of my favorite home theater channels to watch. Really enjoying the type of content your putting out as I'm building out my own HT bit by bit. I'm sure it's a ton of work to try and build the channel ! Keep up the great videos 👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏 so much. This means a lot to hear you’re enjoying my videos. I’ve always loved home theater ever since I hooked up my parents 80’s style stereo system to our vcr. It is a lot of work to make videos, but I enjoy the hobby so much it’s a fun work. Good luck with your HT! Thanks so much for watching and I’m glad you’re here.
The disk also delivers Atmos via Dolby Truehd and Dolby Digital Plus. So you can listen to all the demos and hear the slight differences in the dynamics when compression is used.
The disc you are taking about is a 1080p blu ray disc so either your player is upscaling it to 4k or something does not make sense here. There is a dolby atmos uhd disc but it does not have the clips you just played
Makes sense since they are selling the Atmos logo to everyone who wants it. Phones, Tablets, Toasters, Waffle Irons and whatever had Atmos logo for many years. What's the point with the trailers when you can't experience the same sound on your toaster?
@@V3ntilator for those of us with a decent setup and for those who want to test their brand spanking new setup. The first thing I demo to people that have never experienced a home theater is a trailer and those are usually the first "wows" I get.
I think Dolby should just make a disc that has all their original content and sell that. Pretty sure they would sell out every copy. My favorite Dolby Atmos intro is on one of my several hundred discs and I can’t ever remember where to find it.
I have all of the Dolby Demo discs. There are 5 or 6 of these discs. I did have to pay between 60- 100 dollars for legitimate copies. You can check the inter ring to tell if it’s the real thing verses ripped. They all have slightly different content. The Dolby trailers sound just as good as any movie that are current made. On the Sept. 2015 disc there is game demo Star Wars Battlefront that is even reference today.😅
It’s stories like these that indicate there is a market for this material. If available, people are willing to spend serious money. It makes no sense why Dolby doesn’t sell it.
I had no idea they sold bootleg disc. I've had all these Dolby Atmos demos as downloads for a long time. I had them saved on my computer and on flash drives.
Great vid again! I listened on headphones. Your voice was predominantly in my left ear the demo disc audio and some bumps were in my right. The demo disc audio then started traveling either through my head or over it from right to left! Sounded pretty cool. Was this by design or a happy accident?
Licensing. The movie clips are only licensed to be used for demonstration in a commercial environment. If it's sold for profit, the licensing would be different, and now they have to worry about distribution, sales, profit, etc. But that's not how they make their money. It's through licensing their own tech. So it's easier to just create a disc, make a huge batch for free distribution to companies using their tech, and leave it at that.
Nice! I use the Dolby app on my Xbox Series X which supports Dolby Vision and Atmos. There are some of the demos you mentioned on there. It’s a great app that I use to test out my setup. There’s also a 7.1.4 test tone demo which is super helpful. The Apple TV has an app as well but it’s not as good as the Xbox in my opinion.
You can usually see if a disc is pirated only by looking at the disc. Homemade pirated discs don't have the same color as discs made at factories. Many years ago i bought some Music Blu-Rays on Ebay that turned out to be copies, but looked official until i watched the disc colors. They had a black layer on them...Pirated discs.
A bit off topic but can someone please guide me where I can find new Dolby Vision demos. There are plenty available for Hdr10 but I nothing much for DV
The only time I've been able to get Dolby Demo Discs are at Consumer Electric and Home Automation/Theater-related Expos; sadly, I haven't been to one in a while.
I actually tried to make one with original content, but I couldn't find a way to easily make Atmos content. So, I gave up and had to rely on specific parts of movies to do testing.
They can’t sell these due to licensing requirements for the content. They get legal releases from the studio to distribute to the AV dealers at not cost w a not for resale term. It helps sell gear and that’s good for the studios but since every release has all kinds of royalties tied to sales that’s likely why u don’t see these for sale.
Welllllll this is really cool lol so if Dolby doesn't want to take my money, I may take my chance on a bootleg. I'd like to rip each demo to my NAS and add them to my reference/demo playlist. Totally looks like you just happened to get an official one though.
I bought this off of ebay from a US seller. But it shipped from China with Orange tracking info. 100% fake although everything worked except for in 7.1.4 test sound. The rear surround or surround back also played on side surround. Definitely a copy of the original though. My package was nothing like that the sleeve was just a printed copy on printer paper the color on disc comes off when scratch very easily and no outer sleeve like that. Gave $9 bucks on ebay!
The odds are very high it’s a legitimate original demo disk. That’s an awful lot of packaging for a bootlegger to bother with. I used to get DTS demo disks at CES. See the show get a disk. So many would rinse repeat and they’d be on eBay. When I stopped going, I’d buy one from someone who did just that. A couple of days around CES was assurance you’re getting a real disk. I have a couple of ATMOS disks but they’re also DolbyVision and I have a Samsung TV so they error out immediately. My Denon setup is 5.1.4. So it’s be fun but oh well. Oh and the real ones I got handed to me were of decent quality but nowhere near that fancy.
Don't worry about it for 13 bucks - I've had bootleg discs that are equal to, or better than, pressed discs. Studio pressed discs have had their fair share of problems, including being completely unplayable with time, so taking a chance on a copy is a moot point if you want the physical content because it's unavailable anywhere or outrageously priced if it is. I wouldn't be owning or enjoying certain unreleased or unlicensed titles in my collection if it weren't for some reliable bootleggers.
Yeah, I figured it was a pretty low risk purchase. Though I did see one listing for $80. No way I’m paying that much for a bootleg copy 😄. Thanks for watching!
What would be your favourite Apple Music dolby atmos mix would be so I can test it out on my atmos setup. And you should make a dolby atmos playlist for the best atmos mix's on Apple Music. I enjoy your content brother keep up the good work 👊🏽
Thanks, glad you’re enjoying the videos! I made a Top 5 Atmos song list video. Here’s the link Top 5 Atmos Songs You MUST Hear! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-reRbCtFVkS4.html
I admit to nothing, but it's possible that I may have allegedly taken a similar approach as you. It's also possible mine plays too, and sounds quite good. Theoretically speaking. Allegedly, of course.
95% of the blu-ray and dvds on eBay are probably bootleg. That is not an exaggeration. The bootlegs are almost indistinguishable from the original in most cases and this has been the case since about 2005.
Even the real discs might look pretty bad like you could think they are bootlegs anyway. Also even if it's a bootleg it should work fine if it's copied bootleg. At least I don't see why anything shouldn't work if so. The demo discs are nice to have I got both Dolby and a DTS demo disc which has some good clips/demos to use.
If you have been to any movie theater showing big budget films, you are aware of what Atmos can do. You were correct when you said niche market. You also said the discs you saw were expensive. Obviously, if they are paying licensing fees for ALL the movie demos. The movie industry wants you to buy, or at least stream their movies in order to recoup some of their cost after a theater run. They don't want you simply cherry picking all the good scenes on a single disc. Atmos only makes sense in dedicated home theaters that have the space and volume to really allow it to throw sounds around the room. Not all rooms are square and sealed. It's going to cost you for an extra 6 speakers plus installation or have fun doing it yourself. Then you probably want hard copies to get the best audio. You also need the compatible player if you don't have it.I think market is speaking on Atmos, and the consensus is niche. Not everyone agrees it is a good thing concerning music either. But it's all a matter of taste. For me a trip to the cinema will do the trick and after that I will be satisfied with my 5.1. I might try a pair of front height channels but that is the limit of what I can do with my room. So even though I was initially excited to try it, that has worn off now.
Interestingly my living room is accidentally optimised _against_ having surround-sound. As it serves as a connection point between opposite ends of the house, there's nowhere to run wires for the left surround speakers without either creating a trip-hazard or an eye-sore. We had a previous hi-fi system that had rear speakers that never got used as a result. The replacement is stereo-only.
@@Roxor128 It's my opinion that Atmos is not for the average home theater enthusiast or even the average homeowner. It's for high end enthusiasts who can shell out multiple thousands of dollars for 15 channel rigs. Putting all that in the average living room or basement doesn't make much sense unless your home has plenty of extra space. Also I find the content to be lacking for what it costs. It just smacks to me of the 3D craze that they kept pushing but fizzled out didn't want to upgrade everything just for a gimmick. For now I will get my Atmos fix in the theaters.
No barcoding it's most likely a copy. Techno dad did a review on them a few years ago. Might play fine though. Have you viewed every track yet? I got the August 2016 one and 4 tracks won't play without issues. No barcode . Disc looks pristine with no scratches/smudges. Id say 98% on fleabay are burned copies.
Ive had one for about 5 or 6 years. They use to give them out for free at CES, so people would get extra copies and sell them on ebay....you know get it for free and sell it for a fee hahahahaha its the American way! Hahahahaha I have the dts x demo disc too.....and the 4k dolby vision/atmos disc. But like you said so many better movie scenes have been made since dolby first distributed those discs, so it would be nice to have some updated discs to use to show off our systems 😅
Welcome, glad to have you here! I made a video outlining my entire setup. Let me know if you have any questions I didn’t answer in the video. Happy to share. Home Theater Tour ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qWwRBql9iYM.html
I built a 5.1.2 Atmos setup for less than $700 by buying used equipment. Check out the video here Budget Friendly Dolby Atmos Theater ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pdNzQCOq3SU.html
So...that disc, being from 2016, is basically "early Atmos". Some good stuff, some meh. I also have a 2019 DTS 4K demo disc. Both of which I got at 2 different CEDIA expo's. The DTS disc has more cool stuff. But Atmos has surely come a long way. It's gotten much better and more prevalent. I would think Dolby doesn't care about demo discs. You want demos, buy the movies. Personally, there's a "toolkit" disc (wink, wink) out there that I can't wait to get my hands on and spin.
Salut si tu veux les vidéos en atmos tu vas sur youtube et tu tapes à toi aussi tu auras plein de vidéos où i res lol pas besoin d'acheter un Blu Ray pirate lol
lol I have no idea what’s happening there. I never use the camera mic as I have external mics that sound better. This was a onetime thing where I pulled out my camera and started shooting.
