Paris-Nice Stage 6 2021 was a medium mountain stage with a low-key difficult 2km climb to the finish in Biot. If a breakaway did not win it would be one for the puncheurs or climby sprinters, ahead of the mountain top finish on stage 7 tomorrow where Primoz Roglic will defend (but probably extend) his GC leadership. Hope you enjoy these highlights.

Cheers mate. Two more stages of Paris-Nice then I’ll have the same for Catalunya so it’s the hardest block for me now. I’ll be in Europe by the time of the Giro so it will be a lot easier then

LOVE that Roglic is just riding his bike, not focusing all his energy on one or two GTs per year. Just ride according to your form. So refreshing to see someone riding hard in early March!

@@joshuahiggins9354 Yeah, and I actually support the UCI regarding this rule. Recreational cyclist ARE mimicking the pros. I think, it's a rule for the safety of recreational riders. Don't like the "puppy paw" ban though, riders only have been using the position whilst riding on the front, at much lower speeds than the supertuck, so there isn't much danger, plus recreational riders have been using the position for ages on any kind of bikes, so there isn't much of a role model effect.

Race car drivers should be banned as the public will mimic them and go too fast. Let the public choose to be stupid rather prevent the professionals from pushing their skills and techniques to the limit and entertain us.

@@MyDemon32 When I started riding a road bike ~25 years ago, riders didn't wear helmets. Noone. These days people are pointing with the finger at you if you don't wear a helmet on your roadbike. The behaviour changed because the pros had to wear the helmets. Many/some older riders like me have been keeping their helmets off, but the younger ones, who all have grown up watching the pro riders always WITH helmets, can't imagine riding a bike without wearing a helmet. Same goes for pretty much everything. If the pros are wearing socks as long as Grandma's compression stockings people will copy that, even if it looks ridiculous.

You keep saying Roglic is isolated. I don't think that's the case. In such a sprint finish I think it might actually be better for him to have no teammates in the head of the group if he is feeling well. I am saying that because we have seen him do well in such finishes before. Also, Bennett and Kruijswijk finished in the same group.

I think it's due to the amount of time doing it. Riders do it all the time obviously, but mainly they move through the convoy and then rejoin the peloton. I think the issue when Eckhoff was DQ'd was the he was drafting the cars for longer than he needed or something. If I remember right he was sat on for minutes while the cars dragged him back to the bunch, not just moving through

I disagree on the Martin move to up the pace even more (I think it was an attack) Laporte and other punchers/sprinters were already in the red, it would have been better for them if the pace was slower 100/150m to the line, better chance to outsprint the punchers/climbers.

It was an attack ... when your teammate can draft the chaser and get separation from the bunch. If you’re not confident you have the fastest (long or short) sprint rider there that’s a great tactic. It got them 2nd - quite good for Cofidis.

@@mynewcolourYeah and in the end Roglic is simply too strong anyway. Quite good but gutted as Laporte is chasing after his first WT win ... Now I get why it could have worked I'm not saying it was a bad bad move just that I believe Laporte could have actually won without it as he was one of the strongest left, so I felt it was uncalled for. He won on a similar finish at Etoile de Bessege 1 month ago (agreed not the same adversity) they should have been more confident. As it seems nobody wanted to do the work as Senechal insane turn faded Martin saw the opportunity (for himself ?) and then got everyone sprinting briefly with 400m left to catch his wheel, comes the final sprint and I'm sure Laporte lactated the f out too soon because of it, sheltered or not that pace was hard for a strong guy uphill. With a sprinter card and +3000m elevation uphill finish I'd say you try to preserve his jump to the last moment possible if he made it to the last bunch, not burn him just before it with unreal pace when selection is kinda made (imo).

If Bennett gets a bit better at climbing, that guy is going to win the green jersey for five more years. Also, I request that Michael Matthews either a) starts dancing outside the team busses again OR b) starts winning some more races, otherwise, he isn't deserving of that "Bling" nickname any longer. (And it's an awful one to begin with, so maybe we start over and he gets a new nickname.)

Why wont he pull through? Well, EF rider, if he did pull through and put out the same fraction of his ftp as you were riding in the front, 110% or 100% or 85% etc, you would ask 'why are you going so slow?' Eventually you will have to realize that if you are a larger aero rider that the little guys are counterproductive to a successful breakaway , especially on a down hill. That's when you decide to go 80/20 and let their 20% be on the riser, while you do the rest. Breaking the work up 50/50 = frustration and failed break away.
