Primož Roglič came into stage 8 of Paris-Nice with a 52 second lead ahead of Max Schachmann and with only 93km of undulating racing ahead of him. Despite the revised route skipping the heart of Nice, the last stage of Paris-Nice delivered madness once again with Primož Roglič crashing multiple times and his GC ambitions coming under threat.

This could've been another canter to yet another demolition by Primoz which would've been seriously impressive but if anything, that effort from him yesterday eraned more respect than winning the thing. As a Primož's countryman my heart was broken yesterday. I cried like a little baby. The last race ... Again! But on the other hand I was so, so proud of Primož! He was just fighting on, no matter what. It must have been so devastated for him, but he gave it his all non the less. Hehehe, his son's name is Lev and in Slovenian that means lion. We all know from whom he got his name. :) What a guy, Primož! Instead of winning the race you won my heart. Again!

I also was sad to see him lose, but my almost 5 year old son watched this race with me and told me Primoz is his favorite rider. Maybe it's cause he's MY favorite, but either way, Primoz is exactly the sporting role model I'd like for my son to watch. After last year's tour heartbreak he still immediately went and congratulated Tadej, and in this he immediately went and congratulated Schachmann. Good analysis LR. I love the way you used the Magnus Cort interview mixed with video of the finish. Cort has got 1 TDF stage win, 3 La Vuelta stage wins and now a couple of Paris-Nice stage wins. His palmares i not bad for a 28 year old rider that often fly under the radar. If a race-leader crashes twice its on him and his teammates. Its a skill to stay in front and stay out of trouble. Schachmann shouldnt feel bad at all, but youngsters can really learn by watching Roglic how he handles himself in moments of losing, what a man.

I can understand his English perfectly. I'm Scottish btw. My Slovenian or any other language ability is zero, it doesn't affect who I support sports wise. Xavi is my all time favourite footballer, and yet I've never heard him speak a word of English. FFS.

Dare I suggest that it was his disc brakes that cost him, I've always thought they snatch too much for certain situations in road racing but then again, what would I know !? 🚴‍

My thoughts while watching were that the JV team seems very weak at times. I think they need to replace one of the mountain guys with a better flats/big engine. Because no one was available to help Roglic, he literally did all the work himself. Why is it that Roglic can do that for 20k but no one on his team can?
@markopodganjek845

Jumbo visma is a team with 2 great cyclist, which are in top 5 in world. And with very very mediocre team support, that is probably worst in all comptition. And totaly failed tactic and support culture. Waert is also complaining that it hasn’t any serious support in Tirreno. No train for him in sprint and nobody to at least follow him in flatland And nobody in flat stages to help him. And there need to be. For the mauntain ride is so that at 15-20km/h speed you don’t need so much support. Alone attacks are more effective, so you really don’t need in team 3 medium mountain guys which would drag you in hill. It is worthless. Pogacar won at last hill stage in Tirreno with 6 km riding alone and made 50s difference.

Can you comment on if disc brakes may have contributed to Roglic’s crash. Witnesses of his first crash reported Roglic locked up his front brakes. Thanks.

Personally not a fan of them not waiting for the leader on the final day. But I can understand how people think differently. That's just my view. Roglic Deserved that win.

Rubbish, cycling is also about bike handling as well as good mechanics etc. If you are crashing or get mechanicals all the time why should the other riders get penalized for getting everything right whilst others don't? Think about it.
@bjsr126
@bjsr126 3 года назад
I have thought about it.. which is why I said I understand how people see it differently. But I personally like the idea of the winner being determined on the penultimate day. As soon as Roglic crashed, the leaders in the peloton pushed the pace to drop him immediately. I just don't see that in good spirit of racing. But I see how not everyone agrees!

@@isitrachelorj3953 I don't understand the argument that he lost respect the day before? What obligation did he have to not win that stage? The other ride (who's name has slipped my mind) was on a breakaway and couldn't hold on? What's the difference between that and breakaways getting gobbled up by the peloton with 500m to go? Had he and roglic worked together, and he'd towed roglic up the climb then sure. But they hadn't worked together, and roglic owes it too his teammates and team to go out and win.
