Why wont this horse go into the trailer! Palomino horse is stunning but refuses to go on the horsebox, he is becoming a bully and will knock you flying! Steve has a little work to do again! steve-young-horsemanship.mysh...
What a bright horse. He worked out so many ways in which he can avoid to do what his human wants. He even worked out that he can use his weight and strength as well. But he met his match with Steve who is one step ahead of him all the way. Steve is the best horse trainer ever.
Awesome job Steve and Tanya!!!! You give us so much wisdom! Tanya I love the way you greet all the horses in the barn. It’s beautiful! Love you guys!!!! Keep making a difference!
@dorindacontreras1094 - I enjoy the way she greets all the other horses. They're interested in humans and she returns that interest. And there are some beautiful horses in this stable; that black and white one especially.
TBH, knowing how a horse is programmed to avoid that small space, I can see why so many have trouble with the horse float style the Brits are using these days. Those completely closed in vans are just dead end black caves on wheels and any self respecting horse should avoid them. Of course, we need them to go in and be happy about it. But even I fear the repercussions on behalf of the horse. So it falls to people like Steve to convince the horse it should do this readily and always without hesitation. As always, good job.
Happy belated birthday Steve! 1963 is a good vintage year, I'll be 60 yrs young this year too 😃 Thank you for another great video, please keep them coming 👍
I don't like the optical illusion caused by the black wall color half way up the walls. Spray some white dots on it so the horses don't feel like its a tiny platform floor surrounded by a bottomless pit. Throw some sawdust on it !!! Or paint the walls completely white. Curious idea--how many horses won't load in a white box compared to the half black box? This doesn't excuse the behavior problems at all, but it may explain the original impression the horse has of the hole we want them to go into. Even painting tall grass on the black wall would probably help. Also orient the box so the sun shines into it and not on their faces.
Great session with this 'chunky monkey' and 'owchie' Steve, I saw that and felt your pain, brought back bad memories 🥴 Glad there was no real damage as you had to dance in the "Disco" for your Birthday Bash! Thanks Tania for your banter, I always get a giggle! Fiona won't know herself now, traveling everywhere with her trusty steed thanks to your help Steve. 🤠🐎
I am always surprised how well you are able to work through all the different problems. Sometimes solving the problem one way and other times solving the problem a completely different other way. Again, I continue to learn each time I watch you handling horses. Thank you.
Brilliant … never a disappointment watching your channel. Crunchy’s a much happier boy now. 😊 And yes, there’s always something to learn in each and every VLOG you put out. Crunchy is quite the handsome gelding … loved the dappling on him that you could see when the sunlight hit him just so. 😊 My parents had a palomino gelding who used to deliberately step on your foot and then lean into you. It was the lesson I learned to never pull my foot out from underneath the weight of the horse’s hoof on your foot … but if I stood still and got him to take his hoof off my foot first, I never had a sore foot … bruised maybe but not limping around like I used to. Amazing the little tricks they get up to, with trying to move you vs. other way around. Always nice to hear Tanya’s chuckles, when Steve’s mastered the problem … or when she wins the bet … not that she’s much of a gambling woman! Glad you had good festivities last Saturday when you turned a number … and survived it! 😂 You’re still younger than me! 😮 I do hope you’ll be posting a VlOG for that last ranch day and Steve’s B.D. celebrations … and that it’s not going to be just for members only. Looking forward to the VLOG for Scotland … and then I think you’re off to a very important wedding 😄 and a stop over in Las Vega (?) and horse show … my it’s been quite an eventful and busy year for you two! BTW … love the toilet paper Tanya! 😂🤣😂 Happy Trails! 🙌🙏🐴🐎
Another great video! Love to watch how you slowly and patiently change the way the horse thinks.. Love Tanya's comments!! Makes this a big cut above other horse training videos! Love you guys! (and Steve- 60 is not really bad. You have your health - you love what you do - you have such a great, funny and witty wife - these are maybe the best days of your life! ❤
Happy belated Birthday, Steve. I appreciate every video - there is so much to learn from you and together with Tanya and your family - it is such a treat to watch the videos. I also enjoy very much the different horse breeds and cross-breeds you have in the UK - every size possible and all of them beautiful in there own right. Greetings from Switzerland
There nothing left to say about your skills, chuffed you had a great birthday. You don’t look a day over 59! I hope you have many years to come of helping people and horses. And Tanya, you’re a gem. A charmer with good camera skills, showing us Steve’s work and love it when you intro the horses and other animals as well. Bless you both!
Watched a video of royal guards trying to load one of the horses and with all the trouble they had, I thought they need Steve! They gave up after several attempts and took him back to the stable.
Happy Belated Birthday Steve! Age is just a number. It's all about how you feel. I'm 63 and some days I feel 83 but other days, my mind doesn't feel any different than I was at 16. My body says I'm not lol
I wonder if part of the problem is the overhead, hinged door? If it was made so it was more upright when open it might not feel such a squeeze for the horse. If horses can be shy about humans above them or a wall next to them, surely an open door above them must be judged a no-go for them. Indeed, you admirably got him past that fear & responding to prompt, Steve. But if manufacturers could put themselves in a horse's shoes they may be able to avoid trailering problems altogether. Just a thought...great video! Love Tanya's asides & observations. Always, sweet! Happy 60th!
I totally agreed with you on that top door, as when he has to step up the ramp he could feel like his head would bump into it. Also coming in from a bright sun and into a dark small space is concerning as their eyes take longer than ours to adjust.
Steve - is there a reason horses choose to travel facing backwards when they are free in the trailer? I've noticed my miniature stallion faces backward when traveling. Just curious.
Phew your poor foot….but amazing loading with Fiona in the end…..🕺🏼🕺🏼💃💃💃💕💕💕💕 love the loo roll, my hubby turned 60 in April too xoxoxo Happy Birthday Steve from us here in Australia 🎉🎂🎉🥳🎊🥳🍻
I love you both Steve and Tanja, so friendly and funny to people and horses, not only a trainer, great work every time. 60 is a cool age !!! I am61 since yesterday 😂
Steve gets to work with some really nice horses that are well made and well cared for. This goes to show you that pretty is as pretty does. It is all about miscommunication between two species. Steve takes a very complex process and breaks it down into small steps that are easy to understand.❤❤❤
I have always bragged about my horses - always wanting to go in the trailer. The other day my mare kicked herself getting in the trailer and when we went to go home she didn’t want to get back on the trailer. It took some time but eventually she got on. Well fast forward to the other day and she said NOPE not going. So I left her home (she hates being alone) but when I got home we got to work in the round pen then over to the trailer we went. She said NOPE so we went to work again. Then she jumped right in. So now we get to work daily on our trailer loading. It is nice to watch you Steve and get more ideas and better ways to get to the same result. Thank you for your work!
Just can’t get a break, right! Even in the bathroom 😢. I can’t believe you’re 60, thought you were early 50’s. Must be something Tanya is doing that’s keeping you young!😊. Great video, keep ‘em coming please. Thanks guys.
Wow. Scary, thank goodness for Steve and Tanya. Magnificent. Happy Birthday. Nothing like being wiser and knowing yourself well from Life Experience. Cheers.
Another excellent session. Enough of a challenge to include good learning moments but overall, a pretty quick turnaround. Sorry about your foot, Steve , but I hope you bought Tanys a lovely breakfast!
Crunchie, as in foot crunchies.🙈 Steve did so well showing this horse what is expected of him. I could use a Steve here for a week helping with my handsome beast. But I’m learning so much from these videos, I am figuring stuff out on my own! Hurray for Fiona and Crunchie!
Splendid work as always! Would you say Fiona might be generally pushing into the horse a bit too much and use the rope too short? (as can be seen while she puts him away at the end as well)
Really interesting video. Beautiful horse. How wonderful the owner is now able to go out & about safely in the van. Will open up so many opportunities for them both🤗
Lovely video, and great conclusion! I have never had opportunity to learn to ride. Unless donkeys at the seaside as a child and three opportunities to go pony trekking - in a lifetime - count?! But I love Steve's firm but kind style, and have learned so much about what makes horses tick. Before watching these videos I thought a horse with a comfortably lowered head was sad and lonely, not relaxed and content! HAPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! 60 isn't that old really!
Agree with the owner that Steve needs to be cloned! Would love to see this amazing horseman in Australia or, better yet, enough Steves to replace the "all hat no cattle" trainer types that are everywere! 😃
Thank you for that quote. Saw one of those guys at a Buck Brannaman clinic last Friday. He was in the corner of the arena where there were 25 horses, so he was hidden from most people seeing what was happening. But he was right in front of me whipping with a flag on this poor horse. He was the "trainer" for this young woman. She was lost.
Ahahaha you are such a fun couple and you’re a great sport, Steve with Tanya’s birthday joking. And you with your sore foot - so sorry! Anyway, I’ve watched every video, they are always excellent, thank you for sharing your lives and helping horses and their owners. What a great happy ending for all!
I was VERY happy that this was a horse willing to learn. We still got to see the whole process - but it was sort of "summarised" (or the Cliff Notes version!) and became more seated in my brain. The steps & results were clear. It might take longer on other horses, but the process is still the same. I have to admit I was a little concerned over the hieght of the ceiling, but it didn't seem to faze the horse at all. Thanks for everything you teach us!
Belated birthday wishes! 🎉 Your gifts were too funny. As usual, you are pure magic with the horse. And, very nice work with the filming, Tanya, it's so sweet the way you say hello to the other horses.
I have a feeling this horse has been whipped before seeing how nervous he is acting. He's protecting himself. I always wonder why these trailer vans were invented as they're way too small! Great result though!
I have said it before Steve I wish I had known you and your methods when I was trying to train my horse years ago. I didn't do it the right way luckily we both survived and he was a wonderful horse so he tolerated all my mistakes. Not the same with the horse I have now but we're learning. I will keep trying and I will keep watching your videos thank you so much for all you do.
Hi Steve Great to meet you and your family on Friday I'm the random bloke and his wife who came to see you on the way to St,Davids :) Hope the Ranch day went well Hope the Ranch day went well
Nice to see Crunchie. What a beautiful horse. Interesting to hear your comment about Crunchie treading on your foot. I always had the same thought that they didn't mean to do it. I had my foot trodden in this week, so there will be some more groundwork going on !
I was standing beside the mid-section of our 13hh chestnut mare who decided she was going to kick my leg by lifting her back leg forward and out! I turned and kicked her in the belly with the point of my boot and she never tried that trick again! This was a long time ago and I'm sure now, that by that time in our relationship if I had known what I do now and used Steve's method, she never would have wanted to do that.
