To quote Mr Steele, "Some people like to listen to music on vinyl, and some people like to listen to music on spotify". To me that's what I go by, do what works for you, it's all products at the end of the day. Sit down with yourself and ask yourself why you want to fly? Don't get caught up on having the latest and greatest (society fuels this way of thinking, slow down) either. The problem with FPV/drones is that they're quite expensive to get into... get something cheap, second hand, anything to fly with! You'll find your feet once you get your hands on something.

I used to HATE analog when I first started flying and jumped into HD because the image is gorgeous. Over time, I've come back around to analog because for 65/75mm whoops and micro sized builds, HD is still more delicate, heavier and finicky. I fly both.

I've already "broken the bank" buying analog over the past 10 years...I,m already very invested in analog - and I'm perfectly O.K with all that I own and fly!!!

I venture to guess its the huge cost difference. For example myself: I have a set amount of income every month (retired) and from that I have a set amount i spent on FPV. So the choices are, fly analog and have money for batteries, props, etc. OR fly digital and after a few months everything is sitting on the shelf waiting on money for props, batteries, etc. Its an easy choice.

i got in 6 months ago. i got the pocket but analog was the only thing i was able to get ahold of. i love fpv now. im a dad of 2 great kids. my oldest is autistic. i was homeless at the time, but now got a trailer. im happy to get out every day even for a pack, its beautiful. i would have got into HD but i didn't get that chance. you and a few others here on RU-vid got me into the hobby thank you. i suffer depression but flying is my way out for a few mins at a time. i have 1 sub 250 5in drone, 2004 2900kv moto and F411 Fc aio 35 amp esc. thank you for making vids. keep it up.

Not everyone is flying a short range quad. Until digital can go further than analog I’m not switching!

I need analog camera's. It's affordable unlike HD which cost too much.

I've got 80 analogue quads. I've just flown 5 of them. Love it.

I use my Radiomaster pocket all the time and used it out to 1.5km @ 100mw several times no problem at all plus I fly walksnail,I also have a Analogue MOBULA 7+8 which i use all the time for fun fly's.

That has been my exact recommendation that I have been giving people with the exception of the goggles as I have never tried those box goggles, but from you review the seem pretty good. Just some other possible recommendations: Quads * Betafpv Meteor85 * Flylens 85 Radios * Jumper T PRO -- same or similar size to pocket, but has 1W built in ELRS (this is what I use and I love it) * Radio Master Zorro Battery Chargers (You forgot about the battery charger) : * VIFLY ToothStor - 4 Port 2S Balance Charger (Makes using 2S batteries so easy) Keep the videos coming 👍

Been 11km with the goggles lite and a 1s vtx (350mw). They're surprisingly amazing!

Hi Stew and Steve, Great video and review on how cheap it is to get into digital. I just moved from crossfire to ELRS, and it's great, but I'm still analog. But I'm getting a digital system. The reason why I love flying micros, it's easier to find a park in the neighborhood and no one cares about you flying around. I still use analog for stuff that gets banged around a lot. Not only does it hold up better, but it's considerably cheaper to repair too. The other thing that kills me about Walksnail is that the price of standalone VTX units is basically the same as with a camera. If I could get a lite VTX for like $50, I'd be much more on board.

I already have the HDZero Goggles. Would you recommend the Walksnail VRX or the L goggles?

Looking to try FPV for the first time - so this just speaks to me. The only thing is that I have quite big hands, and I´ve read that the Radio Master Pocket could then be a bit small - especially those who recommend pinching the controls. What would the next step in size be?

I wonder if we'll see some easy mod to add external antenna to the goggles L. It might be as easy as unscrewing a few screws, drilling a hole and adding the right connector. Btw I love your way to see fpv. It's tiring when everyone else act like we can all spend thousands of euros in the hobby without thinking twice about it

Yep, looked into it and decided WS was the way to go. Man I wish the goggles L existed because they would have been a nobrainer, but I bit the bullet on the X. Got the flylens75 with the ws 1s kit but now that I've built a mob7 I kind of wish I started there. I can't stand the shoulder buttons on the boxer though, need real switches. So I got the Jumper t20. Bit smaller too which is nice.

I am happy with my analog rig but if you were to start out brand new I completely agree, its all about having fun at the end of the day

I love my Boxer. I'd love to try a Pocket. Maybe at the next local Meetup I'll bind a friend's to a quad and try it.

I fly Analog about 90% of the time. It allows other pilots to "ride along" without any fussy setup procedures. It is also reliable at long distances and never goes "freeze frame". When flying identical analog vs. digital rigs, quad pilots will almost always say the analog feels more hooked up.

But for longish range, flying planes and wings, would you prefer this or analogue??

I'm strongly considering selling my analog quads and Cobra X goggles and getting the L's. I love my O3 quads, but this seems like a great option for micros. I've been bashing a new Analog Flywoo Baby Nano v2 recently in prep for Tyrant's Pro Whooper Freestyle Bootcamp, and now kind of wish I'd gotten the L's and the WS version (it's never too late). Or maybe I'll just wait and get the Goggles Y whenever they come out.

Because of the Audio live from the uav !! :) It would be great if you could research/test how to get this with these goggles :) Do you know if external wireless mic could do the trick ? Like Lavalier mics ? Cheers from France

Great vid, but when you look to buy there are 2-5 options, as a new player it would be great to have to details as fully described Cart list [options] suggestions.

I have been holding off moving from analogue as I have many drones and multiple flyers I have to outfit. I have also lost the sight in one eye recently and now have a better experience with Box Goggles ,which has seen some older kit pulled out and used( quanom cyclops and such) The digital Box Goggles look like they could serve well and I'd like to see how good some of these digital receivers perform putting out to a flat panel before I make a change.

WE want analog for Fiability link , no cut out for seconds For long range power For tinywhoop who don't cut vidéo at 3.5v For learn tricks and don't break 100+ caméra For organic feeling.....

Please get a better mic for your desk setup I recommend the Kmart one it comes with a boom arm and it will double the watchability of those segments

As a racer, I still use analog. And as a poor person, will continue to do so until someone buys me some HDZero goggles. Lol But for new people, yes, the entry cost of good analog goggles VS HD goggles, is the same.

Your headphone hack with battery reminds of my PS3 controllers hack during the lockdowns. I got a whoop 1S battery and done a little bit of soldering and replaced the battery and had it external for easy changing.

I'm looking to get into fpv, I live in europe. The controller has some options FCC and LBT, ELRS, CC2500. What do those mean and what should I choose?

Currently running the HDZero Googles as my first proper googles. However in the time I am finally ready to fly walksnail came a long way - what would you reccon is the best way to get to fly walksnail? Should I get the VRX and add it to my googles or should I buy the Caddx Googles L? Thx for your suggestions

I started with walksnail but analog is still cheaper to install / repair / replace, especially on micro/tiny quads.

Some FPV pilots are hipsters who fly analogue due to the inherent warmth of the signal which digital can't replicate. They'll use really expensive antennas and talk about how it takes them back to their childhood.

I really wanted to get them but there is almost no option of BNF's drone with Walksnail... any ideas why ? do you know if constructors will make more walksnail bnf in the future ? as a beginner its a bit scary to not see a lot of option. while you can get everything with O3. thanks

Why are the goggles better than say a Skyzone Sky04X Pro with the Walksnail VRX?

I'm interested how these digital cameras work in low light conditions. Because with analog cameras like Caddx Ratel 2 you can easily fly after dark :-)

I wouldn't even bother with analog at all. Caddx set the financial bar really low. The boxgoggle and the 1s kit make digital quite affordable - and just ~150 bucks over an analog beginner set. You even have the possibility to upgrade part by part to 500$ goggles, 2.5W vtx, etc without having to change the ecosystem. It's awesome

Why would I still go analog? Latency, Range, Dependability. The latency on analog is still better by far. Analog has a longer range than digital, by over double. Analog signals don't drop off a cliff at long range, like all digital formats do. With analog you will have PLENTY of notice when you are getting towards the edge of your range limit - enough to be able to turn back and recover the signal. With digital however, the signal more or less just drops completely and you're screwed. None of that even touches the fact that analog gear is a fraction of the cost and doesn't have a single company that dictates how it can be used or what you can buy. Every digital standard (save HDZero) is controlled by a single corporation who makes every single part of the ecosystem. What happens when that company folds or gets banned in the US (or where ever). DJI is about to be banned here, which leaves Walksnail ... another Chinese company that will get the DJI treatment soon enough. Analog does not have this achillies heel.

I feel a bit dumb buying analog only a few weeks ago but even still there was no way i was going to be able to get a 5" drone and goggles for 250 going digital

Why do most people with digital equipment still buy and fly analog with it ? Because ANALOG is still KING like it or not that is a fact . Until the digital is as cheap and performs as well and is as easy for most as analog it will remain that way . But HD is getting closer to the top with newer and newer releases, but again With the hobby in jeopardy of being regulated out of the skies, and tariffs and extra cost being passed down it still has a long way from being as cheap as Analog . Because analog is dependable, and caddx makes unreliable products with QC issues (mostly VTXs on both counts). If you don't believe me, ill happily send you my 4x dead VTXs that died LANDING MY QUADS or simply updating the firmware (correctly). Sorry, but no, love u dude, but I would never recommend WS to anyone because its a lottery if your system works correctly and stays working correctly.
