The experience was awesome. Jason and his family are terrific, as well as the other members of the workshop. I highly encourage anyone who is apprehensive or who really wants to learn to sign up for a workshop.

I just butchered eighteen meat birds. I pieced out all of them. I will be boiling the carcasses for broth. My biggest bird was10.7 pounds dressed. These will last my husband and I a year. We have a beef calf to send to freezer camp too.

You are going to have to clip the wings of all your turkeys to see if they still escape.

Self reliant, what a beautiful word! I'm hearing it more every day and it means so much. When I hear people using that word over and over, I gives me hope for the future and for people in general. I would think by the time you finish each class, you have hear that word from everyone at your class. Teaching is a skill in and of itself and I'm sure if you aren't to tired to think at the end of the day, that you and Lorraine must also feel a great sense of accomplishment! Omg! Nothing tastes better than home grown meat....chickens, pork or beef! Just like the garden, anything home grown is better than what you get at the grocery! And not knocking the grocery...many can't have livestock in town!!

I'm so nervous about doing this the 1st time. I need to do a workshop!

Randy is becoming quite the chicken handler. Very impressed with his chicken handling skills.

Because home grown chicken tastes AMAZING! And when you held it in your hand as a yellow fuzzy chick, and have watched them live their best chicken life, to only have one bad day is very satisfying. I had a ground pen of quail that accidentally ended up as meat chicken TV. They would waddle over and plop down and watch the quail for hours. Homestead hilarious!

It's great that you guys teach so many people how to butcher chickens! You've got this down pat. Yeah, I had to more my 3 week old Cornish Cross out to the chicken tractor just like this. It looks like you put a taller fence around the turkeys but they are still getting out. Thanks for this video.
