Why would I change from one performance air cleaner to another on my Harley? 

S&S has become just as much of an icon as Harley themselves. Seeing the S&S logo on your Harley it's like an old Chevelle with a Holly carb and Cragar wheels. It just belongs. I couldn't help myself either, I went with the S&S cam chest cover to go with my S&S cams.

I’m like you my friend,, I’m S&S nostalgic. My dad had the S&S Super on his shovel , and it was just the epitome of cool !! ,,been hooked ever since. I’ve got the stinger tear drop cleaner, the sidewinder 2-1 and a S&S 540 cam in my 128 2017 ultra limited M8. Like you said, S&S may not be the absolute best for everyone, but it works for me!!! I love use the S and S tear drop also. Iconic IMO. The one I have now was chrome, had it media blasted and powder coated black a few years back.

I tried to get one of those last spring, and 3 or 4 places were out of stock. I ended up with a Rinehart Racing CAI. I’m pleased with it.

As a guy who’s dad, uncle and grandpa all had s&s teardrops on their bikes, they are still my preference on my bike and I have had friends who didn’t grow up around bike who will never understand why I choose them over some modern options. It is entirely a visual and nostalgic preference.

WOW! Perfect timing. I was just about to buy a K&N intake and your video popped up on my feed. You're so correct... back in the 80's when I lusted over the Evo's all the cool bike had the S&S air cleaners. Binned the K&N intake and went straight to Revzilla for the S&S intake 😄

I put the arlen ness clear tear on mine because I love the tear drop cleaners and thought the see through was awesome.

A dab of grease will help the gasket stick without making a big mess or damaging anything. Someone passed that tip to me a while back and it was a game changer.

Really like the black S & S i agree on the open letting some water in. I have that problem with my Screaming Eagle. Little boot cover is not much help..lol.

The best looking by far I would only put one on if I had s&s cams .I feel the air cleaner represents the parts that you have in your motor but that's just me

I run a Rough Krafts air cleaner and it's open all the way around. As you know St Louis gets its share of rain as well. I've rode it in rain so hard you couldn't see and had to pull over. No problems at all. Altho I don't personally like thing (it came on the bike) because it hits the inside of my knee. Who knows, maybe that helps in the rain? And it's an 883 so it doesn't suck as much air as the bigger bikes do.

I got a DK Customs 606 with their transformer external breather plate sitting on my floor and my low rider ST hasn't even arrived yet and comes with the SE heavy breather stock haha.

You are right my friend in 1981 I bought my cousin's 65 Panhead and somewhere in my drinking days, and keeping her running I must have stole someone's S&S teardrop because it was on it in 2011 when I got run over. I like the one you pulled off ..Ever have any wandering, but friendly Alligators or Pythons seek out the cool concrete in your Harley shop while the door was open? But I see that didn't help with rainy conditions.. I actually like the look of the OEM style 104 and 114 standard air intakes, but I don't like that they block so much engine heat from escaping by their engine hugging design. I forgot to mention that the M8's ECU can compensate for Air intake changes than the twin cam ECU controlled mapping.. so no you don't need to remap only for air intake changes, and possibly for mild exhaust changes with it too.

I had a Wimmer cone air cleaner with a rain sock & got caught in the rain. The bike kept stopping we had to wait out the rain for 3 hours.

I have an 09 ultra classic I put slip on On it now I want to take the baffles it has where I take the screws out to take the baffles out do I need to do anything if I take the baffles out I was told no stock motor

Why do people get rid of high flow air cleaners that were on a bike when they bought it? I've got dents in my right knee from the 90-degree cone filter that stuck out where my knee goes when I ride. Enough of a reason for me. Besides, I wanted some more vintage looking than something that came out in the 90s. S&S Teardrop or a Screaming Eagle filter setup with a Round Vintage cover were my choices and I went with the Round Vintage because to me they're more of what I remember from the 60s.

Hi Mr & Mrs Monkey. Been watching your vids for a few weeks now and have not been disappointed by any. You are such cool people. My main question concerns the org. that you are members of. Do they do supporters items? eg tee shirts, patches etc. The reason I ask is that I would be damned proud to wear supporters items now I know the work you all do as my adopted son came from a rather bad background (won't go into detail here) but he had a real bad start in life.

I have a question for you, I have a M8 2017 and they run not as lean as a twin cam. There is about a 10% leeway on the M8. My question is if I put slip-ons with a high flow Air filter do I really need a tune? Remember I'm still using my M8 cover so the air flow would be a little less then say an full open Air filter. Quick little correction. The Standard 114 oval in take is NOT highflow. It still comes with a Paper Filter. You can turn it into a Stage 1~Stage3 air cleaner by swapping out to the K&N Filter, it's 60$. With the SE KN filter THEN its a highflow air filter. Stock it's not. Previous owner of my bike had pipes installed and it was retuned, the bike ran rich and ate extra fuel because it didnt like the paper filter. I put the SE Filter in it, put a stock improved tune and now the bike doesn't eat gas like crazy.

Of course if you're going to do this, change to an S&S carb as well, with the jetting change. The last one I put on I had to get dechromed, so I could return it to the straight "polished aluminum" which was the original form, and in my "antique" opinion, vastly better. S&S has some of the best chrome in the aftermarket offerings, but no matter what, they will pit, if you ride, and simply polishing the aluminum is much better than living with the pits, between chrome sessions. I've never gone with a new aircleaner and not replaced the carb as well, they always need rejetting.

I had the mini Teardrop on mine up until a week ago. I don't like the mini Teardrop at all. Looks weird. I replaced it with the tribute cover and it's still a nogo. It's all on ebay as a set and I have the full size Teardrop on its way. Just wasn't for me.

Hey man quick question, I got my first big boy harley 18 street bob 107, before I had a 13 72 (hard candy custom) it came with the arlen ness monster sucker, I was told to switch to a different intake that can vent blow by to the atmosphere instead of back into the engine, I did that noticed a bit better response. I only have s&s slips on the street bob but was thinking of going full stage one, how important is venting the blow by out? Do you do it?
