By the way, for people afraid of slipping out in any trick landing, keep in mind that the more loose and with bending the knees you land, the smaller the chance of a wipeout / slipping out. The stiffer your legs are on impact with the ground, the higher the chance the board shoots out from under you. This really helps with pop shove its, as you really don't need to do a massive pop and hard scoop and 'stomping the landing' at all. It's a pretty mellow trick that benefits from not going crazy. Obviously, the more experienced you get, the more you could pop them and even do them over or onto things.
biske oat same bro... first time i tried a pop shuvit i landed it and didn’t think i would. ofc i slipped out of it and then i haven’t landed another since. today is my day tho...
@@biskeoat9337 idk if youre still finding a hard time committing, but this week i just started maintaining consistent clean rolling ollies after like 2 years of trying to learn and not committing, and what helped me bro with getting over the fear of slipping out was I forced my arms to stay down and low parallel to my body, this caused my shoulders to always remain over the board and parallell with it that made me feel 1000% safer in the air, i hope this might help for anyone
Dude, I dented my shin with a pop shove it back in the day... I think I retired right then & there.. Same with heel flips; I got the nose in my crotch when challenged to perform one. I'm taking up skating again, soon, though. I'll show 'em.
I slipped out first time I tried it because I was pretty cocky. Sprained my wirst pretty badly and couldn't move my arm for 2 weeks because I damaged my tendons. After watching I was finally ready to try again. Making good progress I'd say
I did this just for fun but I didn’t really want to learn it yet because I don’t land Ollie consistently and now the pop shuvit is my favorite trick thx I’m going to sub, much love❤️🛹
Great tips Sean. When you say "scoop", do you feel like it's more of a flick with your ankle on the tail, in a forward motion? I've noticed that I have more control if I visualize a flicking forward motion as opposed to scooping my foot under and forward. Thoughts?
@@srewux7770 not well man I got Covid which prevented me from skating and broke my daily routine after Covid I had to spend another 2 weeks relearning it before Covid though I was learning how to kick flip drop in and how to 3 shuv man I wish this virus died lol
DO IT IN THE GRASS FIRST!!!!! I struggled for so long (since i started 2 years ago). I did it today in the grass and landed it. ALSO, try holding onto something and do it
So I did what u said and I was just practicing with my front foot and I was going to go inside and said let’s try a pop shove it I did it fucking first try
I can’t do it and I’ve been trying for like 2 weeks and I had to take a 3 day break bc I fell on the floor and landed really weirdly and pulled a muscle
How is it possible that I am doing ALL of those wrong things?? :D Thanks for the tips. The "landing with only one foot" is the major problem for me. Will try your tips, will report back :D
I have decided to start skating again at 38. I was having trouble with this. And today I landed 2 in a row between getting the kids to school and going to work. I don't have too much time to practice but these videos are helping heaps. I was absolutely cheering. Thank you very much. Next will be the kick flip.
Thanks man, I love your detailed videos, it's great when you explain "mistakes" that usually occur to people cause it's usually occur to me!! It's great, keep it up!!
Never understood this trick. Watched your tutorial, went out and could instantly pop it. Not even an hour later I get a couple clean and high ones. Thank you
I have the opposite problem 2:07 where instead of the board basically pivoting around the back, it goes too far forward/side of me where I can’t land on the board. Any tips?
Hay, the last common mistake that u said in this vid is exactly what is happening to me can u or someone else in the comments give me a couple tips on how to commit. PS: I’m not afraid of slipping out I just can’t commit
Ok I said this before I tried because I saw that it would help but I literally landed it within 5 tries. Thanks and I’ll share it with all of my friends!
It's so weird how I could not pop shove it because they would just turn upside down because my front foot wood grip on to skateboard this was happening for years but ever since you said hover your front foot when you Pop's shove it I did a pop shuvit on my first try just because you said hover your foot made it so much easier to do the trick because now my pop shovits don't stick to my front foot any more so BIG THANK YOU TO YOU I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS YOU DESCRIBE EVERYTHING TRICK SO UNDERSTANDABLE
I have my pop shuvs down good but any tip on catching the board with the front foot before the back comes.Cause always i pand aith both feet and that does not help to do it high
@@seanbrownskating Thanks men i will try it!Btw if i had seen this vid when i was leaning them it would be very helpful, really good vid and keep up the good work!

the only thing i hate about pop shuvs is that i keep thinking im gonna land primo and fall on my ass but after watching this video, i learned that i was either lifting my front foot too high or my back foot is too much on the pocket and not in the middle of the tail
Ben Wall Been busy. It’s final exam time for college students. Had 3 tests already this week and have another tomorrow and those aren’t even the final exams
And Sean comes in the nick of time. You talk about mistakes and solutions I don't actually hear from others because it could seem pretty obvious. But you're great, man. Wondering if a no comply 180 may be on the rise?
I went back and relearned some of the basics. I noticed, that I kept landing on the nose on Treflips, I just couldn't get the forward pushing motion. What helped me, since I just muscle pushed the forward motion, was learning to get the hips parallel to the back truck. Makes the rotation much easier and you don't need nearly as much force. I never noticed it on the 180 Shove It variations. It started to happen when I tried Treflips and 360 Shove Its. Also I wouldn't recommend learning them Fakie (maybe to get a little more familiar with the motion) since you don't need to scoop as hard, but normal Shove It's are just a little different in terms of weight distribution (for me at least). Enjoy yourselfs skating, and don't get hurt. 👍
Lately, my life is taken over by skateboard. I wake up I watch skate videos for a while, go to work (does nothing related to work and watch skate vids), off work and skate for 3 hours, watch more skate vids, sleep and repeat 🥲
You shouldnt have to "jump" forward you should be jumping straight up and down. The reason people have to jump forward on their pop shuvits is because they are diagonally scooping the board. YOU DO NOT SCOOP A POP SHUVIT DIAGONALLY. You actually scoop it straight down like an ollie and then scoop it backward at the last second, when the tail is in contact with the ground. So pop down, then nudge it backward. This is the only way to keep the board completely under you and you will get far more pop and better looking and more controlled shuvits from popping this way. Dont teach yourself to jump forward or backward on a trick because if you have to do that then youre doing the trick wrong.
this video did help but it was quite confusing how you were doing pop shuvits then shuvits and not really acknowledging it. Like when you're talking about having your front foot hovering over the board (4:00), you didn't pop. How do I get any height by popping if I'm barely lifting my front foot? 🤷🏻♀️.
Thank you for this nice tutorial I actually landed my first pop shuv I'm mean it was only in the grass but tomorrow I will try to land it on concrete I was all ready giving up on skateboard but u got me hyped up again. 🔥🔥
I keep having issues with landing my shuvs because my tail barely comes up so when it finally rotates full 180 the nose ends up so high near my back foot that I can’t get it back on the board.
I am having trouble jumping forward to land on it: sometimes I don't go far enough and don't land on the board, and sometimes I do go far enough but I overbalance and immediately fall off the far side. I think I overbalance when I start my jump by leaning forward; but if I don't lean forward how do I jump? I can't spring forward from my front foot, because that is hovering above the board to let it spin, and I can't spring from my back foot because that is flicking the board. Or should I spring from my front foot a split second before I lift it up, or from my back foot as part of the flick?
I can no longer land about 200 attempts on the move, and I constantly jump, catch with my front foot, and the back goes forward, I kind of bend over and because of this it happens, I don't know how to fix it (
