40 year bike commuter. If you are going to commit to bike commuting, a rack and panniers is the way to go.

Did I really just watch someone show me how to pack a back-pack??

No, you don't. Any backpack can be a commuting backpack if you commute with it on your back...

Yeah - i’ve used lots of different generic backpacks, but also no harm having something specifically designed for cycling. Some of the features of this definitely appeal to me.

Black cycling bags, black cycling clothes, black helmets and bikes. Small (if any!) LED lights on "commuter" bikes with no factory light options. Can someone explain me why?! I see those kind of people riding at night and in the rain. I'm head to toes in reflective clothes and gear, additional lights and reflective gear on the bike and still don't feel comfortable at night and in bad weather.

Because as you have stated, even wearing all of that and making yourself look like a tacky Christmas tree, it doesn't make a massive difference.

@@Mr.T.12345 Don't be stupid it's called Hi Vis for a very good reason, I've lost count of the number of times I've not seen cyclists because of their dark gear

Leave as much stuff at work as you can and/or go in via other means once a week and drop a large bag off with all your clothing for the week (and bring back the dirty stuff). Join a local gym and just pop in before work for a shower. Lots of cheap Gyms around even in central London, mine cost be £20 a month, so the cost of a couple of train journeys.

@Cycling Weekly Great video, i prefer to put my walking shoes in a plastic grocery bag to keep other items in my backpack clean from dirt as well.

But that won't highlight the features camelback wanted. I'd want some content initiated by Cycling Weekly soon.

I've tied over $125 USD of groceries on handle bars monthly I put chips and bread in pack works better then a trailer I've learned that trick riding 1st motorbike with 2 liters too .every week . I made a trailer from a yard wagon green with sides that drop down with back and 4 go-cart tires it really is difficult empty. 30mi round trip to store

I bike-commuted for a couple years. 11 miles each way. I found the best way to deal with shoes is to not pack them! I have a brown-ish pair and a black-ish pair at work in my drawer. I just wear mtb shoes with mountain cleats from bike locker to shower and to my desk, then change into normal shoes. I"ve been using my wenger Ibex backpack, but it's not an ideal choice in the rain. Been looking at the camel-backs lately, so this helps.

What the fuck. You tell me people are willing to wear fresh underwear that have been fermenting inside a shoe?

Some riders don't like backpacks and prefer bags on their bikes...but if you own multiple bikes, a backpack is the most economical and easiest option.

But black…..🙄🙄 that’s a no from me I hate hi viz, however, drivers will divert blame onto cyclists and I don’t want to wearing a black bag and that maybe it could risk me accepting mitigation of me being hit? Thus reducing drivers full responsibility?
@cyclingweekly

Even though they're black, they have 360 degrees of reflective material. Another good option is to use a reflective backpack cover.

Drivers always have responsibility, unless it is night and you do not have lights. Besides, I always see cyclists and find myself wondering why on earth they wear hi viz. I commute to work by bike and car.

Go black and know you can't be seen is best mindset any day! I'm 52 and ridden bikes commuting as long as vehicle if not more so, and let's pretend you neon green with orange stripes lights and ding ding . Riding with traffic all of sudden 4x8 sheet of corrugated roofing slides off back of a construction truck doing 40-60 MPH truck passed you but his load coming for you !!! THAT happened to me! Almost hit my ankle could've hit me up top. I ride with traffic during daylight but change up at night !

90% clothes are dark or black camouflage I don't WANT to be seen! This mindset keeps me under radar and safe grey man style. Cheers from New Orleans Louisiana uSa🥾⚜️🇺🇲💜
