Absolutely it does. I wrote a research paper about that in college. Caffeine revs and depletes your adrenaline, among other side effects, and essentially makes it less functional when you really need it and causing you to feel stress symptoms, like you're in fight or flight mode, which is exhausting because it's meant to be a temporary, rare state. It also can negatively impact your sleep of course, cause of rollercoaster high/come down feeling, and make you more prone to 'get it done or get irritated about it' mode which is also emotionally, and therefore physically, taxing. If you feel like caffeine may be causing you tiredness, I highly recommend taking a weekend or whatever kind of break you have to really try to FEEL your body's signals and figure out what you're truly wanting or needing when you start to reach for more caffeine. If you come to the conclusion you're just tired and want a boost, it's extremely liberating and eye-opening to just take a quick nap instead! In my experience you'll be able to figure out what your body is really wanting more in the future.
Summary Orexin controls how tired you are Ways to increase orexin 1. Exercise 2. Intake of Caffeine 3. Modafinil (not recommended ) 4. Fasting 5. Low carb diet 6. High protien diet 7. Lose weight Other things to think about 1.Deficiencies in vitamins , minerals(like salt levels), electrolytes and hormones. 2.Sleep patterns should be consistent and healthy 3. Dehydration can be a cause of fatigue and tiredness
Manan Khandelwal ... REAL Summary : This video is WORTHLESS to you as a poor wage slave in this oppressive system, as it addresses NONE of the issues that need to be addressed to lift that oppression off ! We DON'T need a youtube full of worthless content promoting worthless products ... WE NEED CHANGE !!!
That's exactly what I told a friend recently! I started doing intermittent fasting, a few months ago and I felt such a energy spike at around 2pm at work. But sometimes we like to order food at my workplace. As soon as I've eaten, I am usually tired for the rest of the workday.
@@thinkwhileeatingpasta5217 milenessmarie ... do you often relate to worthless information ? WORTHLESS to your life as a slave in a system that wants to use and abuse you ? Worthless as much as pretty much all the videos on this platform, a platform which has THE GOAL of wasting your time and keeping you dumb ?
I was using the eat carbs only at night method before bed without even realizing this because I get serious energy drops when I eat during the day. Realized this all through trial and error, so I can testify to this video for sure. EDIT: just started eating canned tuna and other high-protein foods every morning and my energy levels have never felt better!
Personally, I always feel tired and sluggish when I don't eat. I usually eat specifically to boost energy and improve my performance, and this isn't even food high in sugars. I think it's eating too much, and what is eaten. Not just simply eating to make you tired.
One thing I've started picking up from your videos is that science shows we shouldn't be eating processed foods, we should eat while foods, cook with saturated fats, eat less meals, but more nutrient dense.
I could certainly improve myself on a lot of these, but some general observations I have noticed: I am never tired during the summer I am always tired during the winter I live in Finland where it peaks at like 18 hours of sunlight during the summer and it's warm, but in the winter it turns to 18 hours of darkness and it is cold
My younger brother was tired all the time.. sleepy as well as exhausted... He died at just 52 with his heart 90% blocked with plaque. If you are always tired go see your doctor.
Could you do some videos on PCOS, Iron deficiency, Binge eating disorder and diet (all interrelated) theres alot of confusion around these topics regarding diet, alot of women including myself suffer from this- would be really helpful/interesting to know your thoughts
Intermittent fasting has always helped me have more energy at the end of my work day, its like turning your body on low power mode so when i break my fast at around 4 i feel more energetic for whatever plans i have post work.
I can personally understand this. For the last year, when just increasing exercise hasn't been enough for getting healthier, I started with cutting MASSIVELY back on carbs, mainly refined carbs, and eating only twice a day, no snacking allowed, and, while I drink Diet Pepsi because I seriously just like the taste, it's only that (no more than two cans, 70 mg of caffeine, only four consecutive days per week) & water the rest of the time, when it's not directly connected to a meal. For lunch, I have a bowl of oatmeal with milk, raisins, & nuts (usually walnuts or pecans) and dinner can be any regular meal, but it's usually a meat & cheese sandwich & some grapes. Since then, I have more energy during the day, so it's harder to excuse skipping a scheduled workout (which has to be done before I can eat) and I just feel better throughout the day. Also, I don't feel as groggy as I use to after eating. It use to be that, no matter how much or how little I ate, I needed a nap afterwards. Now, I can go right back into what I was planning to do.
Maybe water fasting helped too because he wasn’t getting estrogen-mimicking microplastics which are found in 90% of water in the USA. (80% world average)
I'm always tired when I play video games, lose seminal fluid, don't get enough sleep or just do things that are plain unnatural. Alcohol ruins my circadian rythym as well.
@@BeautifulEarthJa Yea, men get tired after they bust a nut probably because they lose a bunch of vital nutrients or there could be something more we don't know about it. It has the power to create new life so the ancients taught in "Seminaries"(get it) how to preserve and transmute this energy.
Veronica there's nothing strange about it, he was just being polite in his wording... 😂 All men know this about themselves, the more you "go off" the less energy you have. It's why "wanker" is a stereotype of sluggish, lazy and dopamine addled.
One thing I don't understand: if increased glucose inhibits OXA, how does insulin also inhibit OXA? I assume "glucose" refers to blood glucose and insulin produces decreases in blood glucose.
Fasting is easier when you’re keto adapted. I also found it hard to sleep if I exercised too much and found my self going for run at 3am sometimes because I was bored.
It's weird how everyone's body works so differently. I avoided caffeine most of my life because I never wanted to be dependant on it and I always had such high levels of energy throughout the day. But turns out, even when I drink coffee or an energy drink I rarely ever feel more alert. Like I'm caffeine resistant or maybe just have a higher tolerance.
Laughing stimulates alertness hormone adrenaline. That's why being a teacher I keep that in mind whenever my lecture gets booring I crack a joke and it makes a big difference in postures of my pupils 😂
I always learned more when I had a teacher who had a sense of humor and wove that into their lessons. Its easier to remember something you find entertaining.
This is my third time going into a no-carb, no-sugar diet, and the biggest reason I'm doing it is because I love all the extra energy I have. I sleep better, I have better digestion, more energy, and I steadily lose weight.
If I find myself getting drowsy and losing steam around midday, I sometimes take a quick power nap. You don't even have to fall asleep - just resting with my eyes closed for 10-15 minutes will give me a boost in energy. Just make sure you set an alarm so you don't overdo it. If you nap too long, you'll wake up still feeling tired instead of refreshed
@@lancelyttle5995 Hmm, to be fair, I think rice, eggs and vegetables that I eat on daily basis are pretty healthy. What kind of diet do you recommend me?
Not true for me, but quitting sugar made me notice how naturally sweet many foods are, especially veggies. Modern people's taste buds are nuked by sugar.
@@Randomness65535 I'm glad you can now experience the sweetness of carrots and beet root (and especially cherry tomatoes). My sweet tooth kept me from normally tasting them too, now I enjoy veggies much much more.
Ashy and the rest ... why would you want to know what someone OBVIOUSLY detached from YOUR reality as a "WAGE SLAVE" has to say, ESPECIALLY when he NEVER addresses the MOST important negative aspect of your life, which is the wage slaving in a system that hates you and which PROMOTES hate and separation ?
I've found taking 5 minutes to stretch once or twice throughout the day really helps me stay awake. Even if I don't feel sore from a recent workout or anything, it's amazing how tight my legs, chest and back can get.
I've observed this in myself. When I take a break from intermittent fasting and eat whatever I want whenever I want (especially carbs), I feel more tired throughout the day
@@ashhcatchemall yeah I honestly just think the bread they sell in stores is totally wasted by preservatives and the fact they broke down the grains to much. Lowering the benefit of the bread
If you eat carbs, which imho you should sometimes but in form of potatoes or lentils or something, go for a run or do some higher intensity exercise. It will counter the spime of insulin and tiredness.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is a slogan, but it doesn't say when it should occur or what it should consist of! I have been skipping "breakfast" regularly since I was allowed to do so. Eating early in the day usually made me feel sluggish, even nauseated. Since I have pretty much quit this habit, I have never regretted it, but still enjoy my "breakfast" nights, where I eat traditional breakfast foods after work. I usually don't get hungry until about 11 a.m. and sometimes feel tired after lunch. I will see what lowering my carb intake can do to offset this.
I drink orange juice -exactly one glass- for breakfast and feel so energised until noon. Sometimes I can drink also a cup of green tea. This is my two cents for breakfast.
What do you mean by " traditional breakfast food"? Because in some countries it's sausages, eggs and beans and in others it's a slice of bread with jam and some orange juice.
As a person with low blood pressure, this is why we're recommended a low carb diet, as we already tend to suffer from low energy/feeling sluggish. Also, our blood pressure getting low enough will literally cause some of us (me) to crash (faint aka syncope.) Edit to add that we're also encouraged to get plenty of water and to add salt and caffeine to our diet. So now I'm wondering if there's a connection to orexin and low blood pressure. As a bonus, we're also recommended to get plenty of b12 and b9 (folate,) so maybe check to see if there's any studies that show whether those two help boost orexin? Lastly, we're told to limit our alcohol as it can be dehydrating.
Tell me about it. Its like I'm in denial that coffee is making me tired just because I'm addicted. Used to be a time when I could complete an essay with just one cup, now I need 4 cups just to stay awake.
I would like a video about dopamine and how it makes us perceive time and how to maintain a steady level throughout the day, Huberman has talked a bit about that.
@@free2pzwn how is he trolling? he is 100% correct... if ur working all day for some silly company to make petty profits so that bezos can go to space, all for a meager wage and even when u do get free you are too tired to do anything.... to know and find anything out. the truth about the world which we live in, the truth about reality. the world is the way it is thanks to sheeple like you. what will you do with your free time??? Our roots are not that far behind us. 10-12k years is really not that long ago, the time our ancestors turned to easy living during the agricultural revolution. Only recently with the agricultural industrialization did things really take a turn for the worst with our general health.
Also if our airways are too tight, then breathing exercises might not work, only for a few minutes, but mewing(tongue posture) can restructure that, if we are willing to put in the work🙂
The intentional deep breathing actually works wonders, I decided to do it the other day to oxygenate myself for some aggressive people at work, so that I would have a physical edge compared to usual incase they attempted to assault anyone. Not only did I felt stronger, my brain and body was noticibly more responsive, I felt great with only a minute of controlled deep breathing.
@@xxxBradTxxx You can do ice baths for a similar effect, but of course that's a change in daily routine while cold showers are just changing the position of a knob.
@@N3G4T3 I think this is the magic of the Wim Hof method. The breathing and cold combo probably increases alertness as well as all the other performance enhancing effects of that kind of stimulation.
I listened to Dr. Huberman a lot and he focuses primarily on Epinephrine as a alertness neuro-thing. Can you, maybe explain how Orexin, Epinephrine, Dopamine and stress hormones in general work separately and together?
the cool thing about [nor]epinephrine is that it's actually a stress hormone, it increases alertness and memory retention because you're body thinks it's in some type of danger/stressful situation. You can stimulate epinephrine through intense exercise

Fasting is a big one. If you can get around the cravings, you do become very alert after a while. Also, you can mitigate the affects of eating by walking afterwards or working out. Body builders get around eating a ton of carbs because the are burning so many calories

Yeah, but what's funny is that they don't even need to eat carbs despite popular belief. Your body will break down broken proteins and well i guess free floating glycerol and turn it into glucose for your cells.
@@thetruthwillsetyoufree112 Sure, the system doesn't work in our favour, but fasting every so often definitely does help with overall health, this is coming from personal experience.
@@thetruthwillsetyoufree112 I think you might be conflating fasting benefits allegedly being useless with the slow rise of authoritarianism in governments in the past 100 years. Fasting can be beneficial and we can also focus on one of the few things that is even more important than health- individual freedom! Healthy people think clearer and are less fearful due to better hormone and neurotransmitter levels. So maybe they go hand and hand. A healthy population is tougher to manage than a sick cattle like population.
I also eat a low carb diet as my first meal which often includes eggs with lots of fat such as butter, ghee to maintain mental clarity and I eat a high carb diet at night which often includes pasta or potatoes to enduce sleepiness and relaxation. I find that works best for me.
This video has made a genuine impact on my life. Changing my diet in the morning to one entirely fat/protein based has stopped me crashing for the 3 weeks this videos been out. By the time I get to lunch time where I have carbs again, I have enough momentum from the morning that my drive still don't falter. My energy levels are through the roof. Thank you 'What I've Learned'!
@@InderjitSingh12 examples: eggs, bacon, avokado, cheese, steak etc. just avoid the carbs. 70%fats 25% protein and maybe some green carbs like spinach, broccoli and Stuff like That for breakfast
When I first started keto with IF, I would wake up feeling like I can conquer the whole anything that came my way. Consistent levels of energy throughout the day with tremendous focus, I couldn't do that at first. So yeah, I'm sticking to low carb and fasting. Best decision I made for my health.
I was drinking up to 10 cups of coffee a day the usual was 4+ I maintained this for 6 years. I went cold turkey, and cut it out of my diet 99% ( I had a cup here or there when the headaches got to much) It's been hands down the best thing I've ever done for my life, I still miss coffee, the taste the smell, but my energy levels just to live my life have skyrocketed. I come home from work and have the energy to play with my daughter, I've slowly reintroduced exercise and managed to lose over 10kgs. Cutting out coffee changed my life
I had chronic fatigue for 12 years from age 13 to 25. It's NOT tiredness, the feeling is a lot more physical and deep in the body rather than the head. And indeed, I could fall asleep instantly. Rarely, even standing up. Somatic Experiencing, a physical therapy for PTSD, is what finally resolved my chronic fatigue, that was caused by trapped energy in the nervous system. Definitely a completely different situation than the info in this video, which is also very useful. I don't usually experience tiredness unless I stay up all night, tho I'm also used to the extreme fatigue I had for years.
Waking up early, taking cold shower in the morning has helped stay energetic till noon. In the noon, if I try to sweat by brisk walk it helps as well. I dont rely on foods to stay awake.. just indulge in some task that’s interesting or exertive..
I gave up vegetable oil after the previous full length WIL video, my energy levels have gone through the roof, I'm in my early 40s but feel like I did when I was in my 20s, it has genuinely changed my life, plus food cooked in beef dripping or butter tastes amazing, also I seem to be losing weight, albeit gradually, but I haven't really made any other changes. I have been eating one meal a day, 2 or 3 days a week for years now, so I think that helps too, and I don't eat high carb food everyday. Since giving up the vegetable oil, I don't need to have as much caffeine to function, I still have a morning coffee, because I like the taste, but then just have water after that, and energy levels seem far more stable now.
I've learned that sodium actually makes me tired, to the point of feeling sick. After this happens, I take potassium to balance it out and I bounce back within minutes, and it's like there was never anything wrong.
@@polentusmax6100 As a supplement I'll use potassium glutonate, but I'll also use potassium bicarbonate (it can sub as sodium bicarbonate, baking soda). I mix potassium bicarbonate with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to make a non-acidic mineral ascorbate. It pulls the vitamin C inside the cells where it can nuke the baddies.
You are potassium deficient...hence that effect. We are suppose to get 4700 mg daily (thats approx. 7 cups of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and fresh leafy greens daily) from the foods we eat. Carbs have little to none and also inhibit the minerals derived from leafy greens, fruits and vegetables (fun fact). Eating carbs or worse refined carbs ( eg. manufactured salad dressing, pasta,s white and wheat flour based products etc. etc.) are essentially inhibiting mineral absorption. Hence why leafy greens, vegetables and fruits are so important, they have the potassium and the other minerals needed to maintain balance in the body. At least 7 out of 10 people have this issue, some more severe than others. Constant high or elevated blood pressure is also another symptom of this.
I only eat once a day sometimes stretching it into longer intervals, but I generally know when I feel tired it's do too water intake or lack of salt. Bouillon cube with hot water on longer fasts!👌
@@yikes6532 u might have to work up to it. also, a normal person shouldnt fainting from that level of blood sugar. if that is the case, u might have some kind of issue
@@yikes6532 when u approach the fasting point that is around 4-5 hours after not eating your energy will dip super low but if u manage to push through that then literally the opposite would happen (or at least it would for me) where I would feel boundless energy and would be able to focus on tasks almost endlessly.
The reason I was always tired was because I was stressed and neurotic. Once I learned how to embrace and let go of negative emotions, my vitality gradually returned over time! Instead of being so bogged down all the time
when i had a meditation practice it was the same for me. heck, meditating before bed made me sleep just 4 hours per night, comfortably, and had me waking up full of energy. imagine sleeping for only 4 hours per day but waking up fully satisfied automatically after 4 hours lol....
What do you mean? I’m not saying ignore or push away negativity or emotions in general. I think we get used to being neurotic as being normal so anything else feels apathetic, when in reality we should be embracing positive emotions even if they feel foreign
@@SolomonSprengerMusic yeah my routine keeps changing. i was just sharing what effect it had on my sleep once because i thought that was really interesting.

Everyone!! Something to consider. If you are suffering from insomnia and find that drinking an energy drink makes you sleepy, it might be because you are supplementing a vitamin B deficiency, which, once your B levels are rectified, allows your body to properly put you to sleep. There’s a chubbyemu (or side channel of his) video that details this.
I think maintaining consistent behaviors like time of when you wakeup and getting sunlight while awake are the best tricks I've found. Developing eating habits that revolve around physical exertion is another.
I have haemachromatosis, and you describe falling asleep at the desk for narcolepsy is very similar to an iron overload where narcolepsy symptoms play out. Before I was diagnosed, I would have these bouts of extreme drowsiness and almost falling asleep at my desk around 3pm. Haemachromatosis if left untreated, leads to diabetes.
One thing I can add as a woman with an autoimmune disorder and low blood sugar. I need carbs or I crash HARD. I tried keto for a bit and felt horrible. I think men and women are very very different. My husband needs protein like nothing else. But I can't go without carbs. Also caffeine doesn't affect everyone the same. I can't have ANY caffeine after 3:30pm or I can't sleep. My husband can have caffeine and go right to bed and wake up refreshed. Very weird. Everybody's different. 💕
I don't think your issue is related to your sex. Not even a tiny bit. It's just your body absorbs nutrients very differently as a human, not as a woman. Some people can't eat meat because it gives them problems. Some people can't eat much sugar because they're diabetic. It's not related to sex, purely genetic.
I've always struggled with energy in the afternoon and many times would be falling asleep driving home from work at 4 PM. If I didn't take a nap, I would certainly fall asleep for a while after dinner. I consume too much sugar during the early part of the day, so that's probably the issue. Sometimes if I get going on a project after work, I get my 2nd wind and feel fine. Caffeine doesn't seem to phase me sleep wise, I don't know why.
This is sick! I kinda knew a lot of these things, but knowing why is awesome. This video has inspired a new game plan! Intermittent fasting, skip breakfast, eat protein and fat for lunch, eat healthy-ish carbs for dinner. The carbs help put me to sleep. I’m thinking for healthy carbs: rice n beans, potato, veggies, etc. For lunch, I might honestly be eating eggs, avacado and meat. People always see breakfast as the time to eat eggs, but I’ll be breaking my fast at noonish instead of 7am!
I started excising a few months ago, and the amount of energy I have compared to before is insane, I am in my mid 20s, and I thought age was just getting to me, but now, I can run a full productive day on 4-6 hours sleep and have the energy to push on. This is also paired with eating better, reducing how much I smoke, etc.
i've had a similar experience: - on a high fat or high carb diet i was constantly tired and unable to focus - When doing intermitted fasting skipping dinner caused me to be unable to sleep, i now skip breakfast and lunch to be more focused during the day and then eat later - when i get over a certain body weight i get visibly more tired other things i noticed were: - lots of salad and vegetables, especially raw ones, give more energy - When feeling sluggish a 1-minute-long cold shower helps - a fixed time to wake up helps with consistency in energy - for some reason energy drinks make me more awake than coffee, even if it's the same amount of caffeine (but then make me more tired after the crash) - i probably have celiac because gluten, even if it's low amounts like in soy sauce, make me so tired that i almost pass out - proteins that are difficult to digest lower my energy a bit too - caffeine improves my cognitive abilities and focus, but sometimes leads to unorganized or undirected action)
