Why You're Exhausted when You Start Keto - Thomas DeLauer
Hey, so you started keto and now you're fatigued, and you want to throw in the towel because it's been maybe a couple of weeks, maybe even a couple of months, and you're just not getting your energy back and you're just, "I am so exhausted."
I'm going to give you some reasons to why this could be happening. I'm going to break them down in a timeframe, like okay, if you just started, it's probably this. If you're six weeks in, it's probably this. If you're a couple months in and you're still fatigued, it's probably this. And I'll give you some solutions and I'll also give you some peace of mind because I don't want you to quit because there is an explanation to it.
All right, let's break this down. The first reason that you might be exhausted after starting the keto diet is more than likely a mineral issue. Now, before you turn off this video, because it's things that you've heard before, let me give you a little bit of a different explanation.
Okay. You've probably heard of the keto flu and the keto flu is not a real flu. It's not literally a flu, it's usually a mineral issue. Now what happens is when we first deprive ourselves of carbohydrates for any period of time, our kidneys expel water. So, the kidneys are like, "Hey, what's going on? Like there's no carbohydrates coming in." It's a natural response for them to just shuttle water out.
But you know what goes along with water? Minerals. We lose our sodium. We lose our potassium. We lose our magnesium. And this is where issues arise. And let me explain a little bit more in depth. Okay, so sodium for instance, when we're deprived of sodium, or we start exceeding it rapidly, we end up having a massive migration of fluid from outside the cell to the inside of the cell.
Now, if you have gone through keto for a couple of weeks and you're still fatigued, it could be the simple carb transition and what it's doing with dopamine in your brain. Okay, hear me out on this. What happens is in the nucleus accumbens portion of the brain, we receive dopamine hits and they give us the satisfaction, sense of reward, much like a recreational drug would. It's called the mesolimbic pathway.

So, the journal Nutrients published a study that found that there was a significant change in cravings and hunger after 12 weeks on a ketogenic diet compared to a high fiber diet, which is also supposed to be a very highly satiating diet. So the point is, yeah, if you can stick it out for 10, 12 weeks, then you're definitely going to get over the whole dopamine issue.

There's a study that was published in the journal Metabolism, clinical and experimental, and it took a look at the renal excretion of ketone. The main ones it looked at, of course, acetoacetate betahydroxybutyrate. Now, the reason it was measuring this is that it wanted to see what happened when individuals were producing a bunch of ketones over a period of time. Now, what they found was that over time, our bodies actually lessened the production of ketones because they got very efficient at it and increased the retention of them.
Renal clearance of blood acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybutyrate remained constant - but In contrast, acetoacetate reabsorption rate increased significantly from 47 plus or minus 10 mmoles/min on day 3 to 106 plus or minus 15, 89 plus or minus 10, and 96 plus or minus 10 mmoles/min on days 10, 17, and 24, respectively
Similarly, bHB reabsorption rate increased significantly from 154 plus or minus 27 mmoles/min on day 3 to 419 plus or minus 53, 399 plus or minus 25, and 436 plus or minus 53 mmoles/min on days 10, 17, and 24, respectively

Thomas DeLauer if I fast for 16 hours to get the benefits(autophagy), and then eat 5 calories of protein just because, does it take 16 hours to get back into the benefits or how long before the fat burning and benefits get back to where they were before the 5 calories?

Please do a video for people loosing too much weight. I had to stop keto because I lost my appetite. It was really helping my neurological conditions, and I am trying again, but I'm starting with a healthy weight. I loose my appetite, and it's hard to get enough fats.

Well just eat whatever healthy and high quality foods. I tried keto for several weeks. Didn't work for ME. I watched another videos explaining that keto is not for everyone. I think my body cannot handle high fat diet It's like more vegetarian. Am not 100% vegetarian and restrict red meat, what ever organic grass fed pasture raised.......after 4 weeks keto am back to my normal mediterranean food Stick with my daily OMAD and mediterranean diet, or just eat whatever as before. I never get fat in my life. No belly fat and no love handles, still keeping my six pack eating rice and pasta. So everybody is different for sure

@@caydence808 Im really fatigued . Cognitive dysfunction , irritable etc... Ive tried almost everything and still dont feel that good as some people say they feel . Im dealing with some autoimmune issues too before this so the combo I think is doing the job to me . I started Keto for that reason that I maybe be allergic to some foods .

5 weeks on Keto and lost 9 pounds. Felt I was doing everything right; no carbs, no sugar, regular exercise, IF, 2 meals a day, etc. The fatigue had me stumped because my energy level prior to Keto has always been amazing. This video is what I needed to hear to keep me motivated and on track. At 72 years old, I’m excited to be the best ME I can be. Thank you for your knowledge and insight, it’s much appreciated.

Seriously. Electrolytes. If not that. Increase fat intake. Just ask your butcher to keep the fat they cut off sirloin. It just goes in the bin because the normal consumer doesn't want it. You need enough fat to replace your carbs. Its one or the other for fuel and so often people don't have enough fat.

Don’t give up! Every time I’ve hit a plateau in weight I wanted to give up and eat some junk. So glad I didn’t give in. Almost down 30lbs in 2 months and I’m so happy. 18lbs more until I hit my goal. Keep up the great work.

Not so easy for me! I was 340 and now 193! As of mid morning.im walking one half an hour a day.and there were times I lost slow but I'm not giving up.im almost 60 and I was really stiff today.

please, people, list very quickly, in great detail, your meals for 3 days so many may know what you do re: losing weight. Most just say look at youtube for many meal plans; we need something quickly put out there from someone who actually did it, regular dudes likes us, not from Thomas D whom we admire but whom we cant emulate in our daily lives in any great detail

@@CryptomanXADVENT for breakfast I eat 4 eggs, a bone broth chocolate peanut butter protein shake, strawberry’s, and 2 avocados topped with a dash of pink Himalayan salt and lemon. For dinner/lunch I’ll eat a bone in rib eye steak with steamed vegetables. I snack throughout the day on avocados with the pink Himalayan salt and lemon, and berries. Try not to starve myself. Supplementing gelatin collagen bone broth protein with other medicinal herbs and probiotics. And other supplements like psyllium husk(fiber) and mushroom teas. I don’t do dairy or any carbs but I don’t shy away from fruits with carbs as the fiber will offset that, and is healthy ultimately. All Whole Foods are ok for me if they are Organic.

This was so invaluable today...I wanted to quit tonight. I love to workout on my Peleton and walk my dog, but my energy is zapped because I've just started keto. I am fit, but carb and sugar addicted. With type two diabetes on both sides of my family, and cancer history in my family, quitting isn't an option. Thank you for this!!!! I'll watch this every time I want to quit.

My first 3 weeks were like that. I'm on week 5. There is an improvement (I don't need to nap) but it's nothing to write home about. I'll hang in for the 12 week mark. Hopefully, I'll adapt sooner rather than later.

I gave up on keto after about two months for three reasons: constant fatigue, sleep issues and... the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries I could smell when walking to work early in the morning on the streets of Paris (where I live). I still keep with intermittent fasting (or time restricted eating) though. The first bite of a still warm almond croissant after those two months was just... heavenly!

Hmm Croissant chocolate.... I used to take the night train to Paris, just to arrive in the morning where city is still waking up and I could have a cup of Coffee and a croissant chocolate in a street coffee, watching pedestrians. Good moments. But i am still doing keto.

This info is true. I went exactly through the same thing. When started keto I experienced every symptom you can imagine including heart palpitations which I researched about and it does happen. Please be aware I was constantly in check with my doctor to make sure everything was ok, blood work, etc. I had weakness, insomnia even while drinking my minerals. The point is you will get through it eventually 😊. Also very important and it was mentioned in the video, I was constantly measuring my ketones with the strips until after 2 months my strips went from ketone purple to almost pink. I thought I was doing something wrong. Turns out its true. After being fat adapted your body will start using those precious ketones, therefore you will not see them in your urine. After this I started experiencing a big big energy like never before. I can’t even explain how amazing I felt and still do after almost a year. Keto for me is not a diet but my way of eating. My blood work is amazing, my energy is non stop, hardly get sick, no body pain, no foggy brain. I’m hooked for life

Thank you! You are always right on time. I have been on keto for 72 days and I feel really tired just in the last two weeks. I have just started epson salt bath. I stopped having cramps after upping my kale intake and taking the salt soak. Still tired, may have something to do with fat adaption. I am 60 and have lived on sugar my whole life. First 72 days of no sugar! It is hard not to give up and that is why I am very thankful for your videos. They do help.

Been on keto for over a year. Great energy first few months, but quite fatigued till now. I’ve been doing semi keto - carb refeed on dinner only everyday. This makes me feel better

I'm on week 4 and feeling so fatigued! This video answered a lot of my questions, including why my ketones are registering high on the strips, but I still feel overweight and tired. A lot of people claim to lose 10kg in the first month, but surely that could also be water? My stomach is flatter and I have more pep when I drag myself outside to exercise. But the brain fog, headaches and fatigue are making life and work extremely difficult. I won't give up though, because of your knowledge. Thank you!

@@abolabsmobileservices9501 Yes! Another thing I did was I started taking daily Zinc and Magnesium supplements. I read up that you can lose some vital minerals in the beginning. I'd say try and get all your minerals in and stay as hydrated as possible. Stay strong! You sound really determined :)

Been on keto for 4 weeks. For the first 3 weeks i felt realy great and full of energy but now for the last week i am tired and dont wanna exercise.

How hard are you exercising? Are you fat adapted? Fat burning happens at a specific heart rate range, which is basically walking and jogging. If you are pushing too hard with, for example running all out for several miles or uphill, that may be the problem. The apple watch tells you the rate if you set it. I don't remember the numbers, but it can definitely make you feel tired if you are constantly in that range. When I try to jog up a hill apple watch always says I am not in fat burning range.

I spent 3 months of feeling nauseous, tired, no energy, lethargy, no motivation, headaches, diarrhea, and always hungry on the keto diet. I woke up one day and realized that this is just simply not normal. Eating a proper diet should make you feel better and healthier while also losing weight. I now do intermittent fasting and a diet that include meats, fruits, vegetables, and grains. I am losing weight, and feeling great. If keto works for you, more power to you. You do you, and I do me.

Great video! Two more things to consider: 1. Many people do keto to lose weight and chronic calorie restriction will make you feel exhausted and your metabolism will slow down. So, don't forget to increase your calories on some days! 2. Studies have shown that the Microbiome sometimes needs a little bit more time to adjust to a ketogenic diet.

funny thing is some days I get hungrier and eat more than I usually do and I think to my self I guess I won't be losing weight today but the next day I wake up and I have lost weight more than usual lol I don't even understand how that works but it only happens when get an appetite, if I force it won't happen

Eiad Alkhayat same here. When I eat 3 meals a day opposed to two meals while doing if I loose more weight. I’m actually experimenting this week and eating because IF put me in a stall so if I start to loose again, I just think that while doing if I need to up my calories.

I'm just over 4 months on keto and I am utterly exhausted. I was tired before keto, but this has been so difficult. I'm doing clean keto and making most of my own food with healthy, organic ingredients. I haven't cheated a single time, I've really stuck to it. I just wish so badly that I could feel better. I'll have some time off in a month and spend time experimenting with my fat/protein ratio as Thomas suggested, and hopefully that will help.

@@konnapoeg - Well, I stuck with keto for a full year, and the results were incredible. The funny thing is that I didn't achieve my primary goals (more energy, increased mental clarity, decreased hot flashes). But I did have fabulous results in many other ways: - About 95% of the chronic pain I was living with went away (a huge, huge thing for me - something I never would have guessed keto would help with) - The terrible acid reflux that made it difficult to talk cleared up 100% - the awful tingle that I used to have in my hands and feet several times a day went away completely - I didn't get sick for the entire year (whereas I would get sick 5-6 times a year before that) - I lost 25 pounds without even trying - I lost my craving for junk food (which used to be constant) - I used to sneeze about 50-60 times a day and that stopped - I used to wake up with morning breath so bad I couldn't stand it and had to get up immediately and brush my teeth, that improved around 98%. There were several other improvements as well. Unfortunately my dad became terminally ill at the start of Jan 2023. After a couple of months, the stress of losing him really made my cravings come back and I went off keto for almost seven months. Most of my symptom came back after about 3-4 months. After my dad passed, I was finally able to get myself back on keto. It's only been about six weeks, but I'm noticing plenty of improvements. So...I highly, highly recommend trying it and seeing if it works for you!

I've been doing KETO for 6 weeks and i wake up *EXHAUSTED* every fu-ing morning and i hate it. First 3 weeks was no problem at all. Now it takes me 2 hours just to get out of bed.

I hear ya on that one. I've been doing Keto with IF for like 6 weeks, also medium cardio and light weights almost every day. After 5 weeks of virtually no carbs I felt like I got hit by a truck and could no longer function. On week 6 I added a little bit more of healthy complex carbs back into my diet and I'm starting to feel like I have a little more energy. Just stay away from junk carbs and sugar while still trying to keep the complex carbs as low as possible.

@@BoogieBoogieAvenue At Week 9 the exhaustion ended. I'm currently at week 13, and are feeling fine and still dumping body fat. I haven't been this "light" since 2015 (still overweight but not grossly so anymore). Lost 26 pouds so far. That's 1 Kilo per week. The fight continues.

Did fine for the first month, then couldn't get out of bed for a week (not exaggerating) after doing light cardio. Switched to an ancestral diet with tubers as carbs and MY LIFE HAS CHANGED! Kept the mental clarity I had the first few weeks of keto but added the missing ENERGY!

YAY! This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm 5 weeks in, I still have no appetite, which I admit is worrying me some as I only eat about 800-900 kcals/day. I lost 6 lbs my first week but that's all I've lost, I have a light, nagging headache and slight brain fog, my energy is low with occasional bursts. I use electrolytes but sometimes they make me more dizzy for a brief period. I am coming from a Whole Food Plant Based No Oil diet for three and a half years and I suspected my body was simply taking a long time to complete the 180 degree turnaround I am asking of it by switching to a Keto diet. I'll hang in there for 7 more weeks to see if I make the adaptation. Hoping it's sooner rather than later. Thanks for your incredible insight and information you share on these videos. You've answered so many questions for me!

Sharon Hughes when do you become fat adapted? I’m 16 weeks in my ketone blood is usually between 0.8-1.2. And as soon as I hit my 16 wks, I hit a plateau that has me feeling so down. I went from 268-237 but I’m stuck I haven’t seen any weightloss for 2 weeks. I was loosing 2 lbs a week. Plus I started IF two weeks ago, I stop eating at 8pm two meals a day and then eat again at 12 pm next day 16:8. What am I doing wrong?

It was more than just fatigue. On strict keto I literally felt faint and ill, was tormented with insomnia and palpitations at night, and poured with sweat. Electrolyte imbalances can be extremely harmful, especially if you have previous health issues. What I've decided to do is have a keto lunch and a small amount of carbs at supper. No point dying in the process of losing weight.

Thank you for this video. I lost 12 pounds after 2 weeks and that's very exciting. I've had days where I felt amazing and full of energy, and days like today where I was exhausted and short tempered. I've been waking up at 3-4 AM and can't go back to sleep. I'm glad to know this is all normal and I just need to push through it. I'm certain this is the most satisfying way to eat that helps to overcome sugar addiction, lose weight and get healthy!

lizardfirefighter110 it’s more about having low levels of insulin. Low blood glucose means low levels of insulin. In type 1 diabetes the patient can’t manufacture enough insulin so you need injections. If you stop blood glucose from spiking high by not eating carbs you need less insulin so consistent levels of blood glucose are easier to manage. In type 2 the patient is making more than needed insulin and the body is resistant to the insulin signals, so again you don’t wish to ramp up the need for even more insulin. That’s really layman’s terms but it’s basically why T2D patients need less, or not even need at all , medications. It’s why T1D have less hypo and hyper glycemic events. In T2D, Weight loss is the bonus!

So I have to tell y’all what I experienced recently! I went to my naturopath and I have been doing keto for a year and a half now and was having major fatigue. Trouble getting through the day and relying on an afternoon coffee to get through the day. He gave me something to clean out my kidneys and my pituitary. But the beautiful thing that happened is Somaplex Chromium! I no longer am relying on coffee in the afternoon! Ever since he had me take a dose while I was there for my visit. He has my drink it in water when I eat a meal and it shows how important our trace minerals are..

I am starting Keto again after many attempts over the last about 2 years. I have never made it through the fatigued stage. The low brain function was the worst and waking up with headaches and stiff neck every morning was not pleasant . This time have I significantly upped my sodium, potassium, and magnesium intake. This is helping . I still have days where my brain does not work properly . I m trying to soldier through this time . 3 months is a long time to feel crappy and it effects me at work. Anyway, trying my best this time!! 🙂

Oddly, I'm doing really well on strict keto, approaching one full month. I think I might have had some minor issues (and still am at times) with getting light headed from standing up, and sudden loss of energy in the evening. But I'm sleeping very well. I've had insomnia all my life, so this is very refreshing! It also seems to be opposite from what many many people report. It seems like I just close my eyes, then I'm waking right back up an hour later, but it's actually been more more like 7. So....actual deep sleep!! The kind of sleep I might naturally get maybe 10 times in a year before, I'm now getting night after night after night! I will say that I did keto over 3 years ago, for a few months, and had very similar results. I had also found that many of the benefits began to taper off or reverse -- but in retrospect, I strongly suspect I had begun kicking myself out of ketosis by pushing the limits with carbs, as I started consuming more and more blueberries (upwards of 2 cups in a sitting) and Quest bars. Any way, I'm hoping to make it a lot further this time. I have 30 lbs fat from quitting smoking to lose asap, and i feel better mentally on this woe. Hoping I continue to sleep well!!

I just decided to take 2 weeks off after 2 years and 8 days of keto. I was feeling extremely tired towards the end of it and I tried manipulating my electrolytes but I didn't feel any better. I am not trying to discourage anyone by this, at the time of starting this diet it arguably helped cure my depression and chronic fatigue. Not sure why Im commenting this, just felt like it was somewhat relevant due to the timing

Still experienced chronic fatigue for the last 2 years on a clean diet with carbs until last week where I was diagnosed with ADHD in my late 20s. Its too early to confirm, but the prescription is life changing so far. I feel like I can finally "keep up". My advice isn't to try and get this type of medication, but keep pulling on strings and trying to fix it and eventually you will find the root of this fatigue. Try looking into sleep apnea too, there are some semi-affordable ways to test this at home with SpO2 monitors, I was testing for this a while ago but it wasn't my exact issue - Good luck

I'm on day 6 of a strict 75/20/5 ratio Mediterranean keto diet consisting of lots of olive oil (from Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club), organic avocado & coconut oils for cooking, macadamia nuts, 100% grass fed organic beef tenderloin, organic chicken, wild caught sockeye salmon, sardines, kalamata olives, mushrooms from my garden and a plethora of organic greens/vegg (brussel sprouts, spinach, asparagus, bok choy, broccolini, arugula, and my favorite, the artichoke). Tumeric/black pepper mix for seasoning meats/vegg. Adequate water and sea salt. No cheese/dairy except for some occasional goat cheese on my salad and some ghee for cooking. First day or so was an adjustment. But after that, it's been relatively smooth sailing; energy level up, no headaches or digestive issues. Almost one week in and I can already see a change in my body composition. Invest in quality foods, stay focused, and the results will come.

I love that you are addressing fatigue and weakness on keto, but after 6 months I still haven’t been able to figure out the issue. I tried adjusting macros and electrolytes. After starting intense menopause symptoms in the past month+, out of desperation I upped my carbs to 100 (max, don’t always reach that). A week or two later all symptoms vanished - the weakness, fatigue, hot flashes, and problems sleeping. Coincidence? ...I’m not sure, menopause symptoms can come and go. But I don’t feel weak and fatigued anymore either. I’m finally sleeping better. Almost everyone on RU-vid says keto is amazing for menopause, except for one person I found so far (Mindy P)...but for now I have to give up on keto. I wish I understood why I’ve had a hard time feeling energetic and strong on keto.

I don't even remember the last time I felt unbearably hungry. Even fasting a few times a week, 16-24 hours. Keto DEMOLISHED my hunger completely. Although I still can feel when it would be a good time to eat, but it's just not torturous, not really even annoying. Just a state of being I guess.

Great video and covers a majority of things, but I do believe some of us cannot fully be at our best on long term strict keto. We can use it for benefits, and be that way most of the time, but for example for me no matter how long I am strict keto my muscles will get flat, tired, and achey and not recover if I am working out - until I eat some carbohydrates. I have been IF/EF/TEF/whatever for about 14yrs and mostly low carb/keto for a decade, plenty of time for adaptations and changes. I even experimented with being strict keto + taking exogenous ketones twice daily + MCT's for several months trying to "force adaptations" but it was no different. Perhaps if I did not come to keto with muscle built, or was not a fast twitch fiber genotype, it may be different - but I just can't seem to make it work. I also seem to need megadoses of salt when on strict keto or my RHR and sleep goes awry, I don't need that much when I go off strict keto and have some carbohydrates but the longer strict keto the more I need.

Going on 6 weeks 🤞 hope to see more progress soon. 4lbs gone on this short 5’2” body and I have seen improvements with my skin. If it really takes 5 cycles of mitochondria replacement then I’m guessing I’m still in the adaptation phase! 🙄

33 seconds in, this video was posted 19 hours. YOU POST JUST ON TIME!!! I’m glad I went on RU-vid. I need to turn on notifications. Today is the first day that I’m starting to get cravings again. Out of stress, I want to eat and eat and eat. I was very frustrated today and snapped at everyone. I had eggs around 10:30am. Now I don’t normally eat until noon and my eating window is noon- about 4-5pm. Reason I ate early was because my boyfriend and I were leaving for two hours on a road trip to an amazing park. So I ate early at 10:30am. Then I didn’t eat until like 5pm and had a slim Jim on the drive back. Let me say, I was irritated the whole day. Then I got home and I had tuna salad I made(Keto of course) and then I had three beef hotdogs, natural, no nitrites, all this is Keto. Then I had turkey and several types of cheese(haven’t had dairy in a week or two). Then I went to my weakness....PEANUT BUTTER. Not a good peanut butter either. It has 4g sugars(2g added sugars) and 8g carbs per 2 tbsp. I had probably four tbsp of that peanut butter, maybe a bit more. I drank water and now it’s 6am and I haven’t slept good today. I am sitting on the couch debating on whether I want to go eat some peanut butter but I’m going to watch this video. Today I already see is going to be stressful. I babysit, got no sleep, having cravings, and I’m jobless. Terrific day. Please someone shine light my way.

Remind yourself why you wanted to go keto in the first place. Don't demand that your boyfriend validate your diet, don't demand support. If this diet is the best thing for you ( I think this diet has great potential) then own it!! Be happy and celebrate your commitment to the diet, make some coconut oil fat bombs, and don't give anyone reason to think the diet is making you unpleasant. I'm currently struggling with skeptical husband. My job is be a shining example of the diet and prove him wrong.

Being Better today I gave into peanut butter because I am trying to not give into junk food. I ate a lot of Keto foods today in one sitting but not too bad. I am going to do some light exercise later to release some stress. My boyfriend saw me losing weight and he kept on telling me he didn’t want me to lose weight. Everyone else was complimenting me!! My mom, my sister, even people at my old job were telling me I looked so much better! I felt better!! I still feel good! Just bloated as heck because of the over eating. But I know it’s just water weight and it’ll go down in a few days if I just stick to Keto. Just got back from the store and one of my sisters was kind enough to let me borrow some money so I could get some Keto foods. I’ve been on a budget so badly but hopefully things change with this new job coming up that I just got hired at. Thank you for your comment!! I never went this long on Keto before and I could never get passed this down feeling I always end up having. Edit: hope it is over soon because I haven’t really given up! Peanut butter is just peanut butter. At least it wasn’t a chocolate cake or cookies or some other bakery item that I would normally go binge on!

Like this video. Started keto last year and my energy levels crashed with all the symptoms described in the vid and comments below. My point is though I cycle in and out of keto because I have an 11 year old boy and the food temptation when he's around gets too much. I am finding I feel better in keto - I should do I shred 19kg which is very nice, my mountain walks are so easy with all that weight gone. The problem I have with keto is keeping weight on, because I find I can easily skip meals from day to day

I actually felt great for the first 5 weeks. Unlike a carb-heavy diet, I wasn't getting tired after meals. My food was being used for fuel, energizing me. Though for the past three days, I'm sleeping longer and still dog tired throughout the entire day. Will try some electrolytes and some other minerals and hope I snap out of it, because those fruit cups are looking mighty good right about now.

Thomas i was 20 carbs per day on day four felt suuuuper dizzy. I forgot to drink salt water and chomped down a whole bag of cauliflower pretzels. Now starting over remembering to supplement sodium too. I take potassium and magnesium, always forget sodium. Wish me luck.

I am about 7 months in. I cycled out last week for entirely too many days and I am hurting. I am having such a hard hard time staying compliant. Such a hard time staying on keto and def havent intermittent fasted since coming back. I have been just eating when hungry but keto friendly options buts still feel like I am over eating. I miss being able to be super strict keto. I regret all those days of carbs.

Don’t be down!! You can go back to strict Keto! I feel guilty I had peanut butter but I am not letting carbs win. I had probably 4 or more tbsp of peanut butter that had 2g of added sugar in it and 8g carbs per serving. Not much but still, I feel I shouldn’t have had it but I’m not going to beat myself up for it anymore. I remind myself that carbs don’t do any good for me. I need to rid my body of that addiction. Bakery foods are my weakness and being on Keto and served me nothing but awesome weight loss and energy and feeling good about myself. I’m not yet where I want to be but I’ve lost weight and many noticed and I’m proud. KEEP GOING!!!

Have you ever seen the movie lalanzos oil.that little boy was put on a keto diet cause he had LDL that bad muscle disease where children stop walking and all cause there muscles weather away.if it wert for his high fat low carb diet that boy would have died.he never walked again but he was able to save other children from getting worse and it always put that disease into remission. And the other boys did not lose their walking if caught in time due to the low carb high fat diet.a great movie

I needed this. I was doing 140 min of cardio a day! After two weeks of keto I can only do 30 min at the most and I’m always sleepy and tired.

Cram in those vegetables and add lots of sea salt! It takes time but to speed things up you can do some fasted cardio, lots of long duration low intensity cardio. A steady jog for example. I personally cycle and can do 3-4 hours fasted, that is constant zone 2 heart rate so no coasting down hills and no pushing hard on the uphills.

People , before going on any diet from SAD, please fix your nutrient deficiencies, you will prevent many problems and will loose weight and decrease inflammation much faster

I honestly think that the only people who feel better on keto are individuals with blood sugar issues or that have had those in the past. If you are healthy, even after keto adapting, you won´t feel as good as when eating carbs

Im fatigued as hell on Keto, but I wont quit since Ive lost my beer gut. Ive gone from 194lbs to 176lbs. That was 2 weeks ago, so I may weight less by now.

Thanks for the content. Your advice has helped me set PR after PR, lose 15 lbs of fat and maintain most of my muscle or gain. I'm a police officer. I work nightshift most of the year and I know lots of people share my dilemma. What eating/exercise advice can you give to us creatures of the night? I try to make sleep a priority but let's be honest, sleeping in the day just doesnt cut it.

I found Thomas about a month ago, before that I was fasting because I just felt like I wanted to. I have seizures, and inherently felt that I didn't want sugars in my body. I stopped my medication, and stopped drinking and eating...sometimes for up to 4 days. I didn't even know about Keto or Thomas DeLauer. I'm 49 years old and very active. I work out every day and ride a bike to work here in Homestead Florida. I found Thomas about a month ago, and have watched all of his videos. He is right about everything he talks about. I had been addicted to sugar...I would eat and eat, and buy loads of candy. My seizures sometimes were bad. Now that I've been following Thomas, I do have cravings for sugar from time to time...but believe it or not I crave fat. I listen to Thomas do clean Keto...and trust him. I crave fat now...and I look like a model...and I haven't had a seizure. My muscle fibers and starting to show...my face looks great...I feel great with some minor cravings. I guess you have to want it...and trust Thomas. He is so smart in this...when you suffer...just watch his videos and keep focused on his word.

Drinking Tonic Water gets rid of eye twitches (and leg cramps). Make sure the Tonic Water you buy has 'Quinine' in it. That's where the magic is. Only drink about half a glass.

I was on OMAD diet before and in 4 weeks I lost 8 kg with moderate cab, low fat and high protein. I always feel energetic but when I started Keto 4 days ago, I sleep and wake up early with around 5-6 hours of sleep. Then I feel very sleepy at work.

I tried Keto for nearly a year to help bring diabetes type II under control and lose weight. At first I had high urine ketones as my body adjusted and they eventually dropped to a negative reading. I had bought a Keto Mojo blood glucose/ketones meter that would allow me to also monitor blood ketone levels and it did show ketones in my blood samples after the urine sticks stopped showing ketones. I was very excited that my blood glucose readings dramatically improved, eventually dropping down to the 80's range, but it seemed my body eventually figured out how to produce glucose just from the large amount of protein I was consuming. I was disappointed that my blood glucose after a few more weeks started steadily rising again eventually back to the 200's to 300's range, sometimes over 400, while still strictly adhering to Keto. Also, I noticed that my blood glucose readings would rise overnight while sleeping. In addition I did not lose even one single pound while on Keto and never had enough energy to start an exercise program; I spent most of my time from work at home in bed. I experienced frequent dizzy spells/fatigue and sometimes heart palpitations/gasping for breath with difficulty in walking that a physician in the ER diagnosed as AFIB. The hospital after taking blood/urine samples for lab work was confused by the high amount of blood ketones reading while noticing no ketones were "spilling' over into urine (I guess the Keto diet made the result not the norm). My co-workers when seeing what I was eating at work commented on the Keto diet and said there was no way I was not cheating on the diet since I stated I had lost no weight. I kept my cabinets and fridge empty at home to help stay on Keto so I definitely was not cheating, but I was eating a lot; my appetite never decreased on Keto. I was always hungry (starving) so I was definitely consuming excess protein, especially bacon in the morning from the local grocery store's breakfast hot bar. I have since dropped Keto and my diabetes medication have been increased along with the addition of insulin. Keto may work for many people in losing weight and increased energy, but it did not work at all for me.

It’s basically like you need to understand both the science behind the diet as well as knowing your body and like you said, some symptoms. I slowly adjusted to the keto diet by at first cutting added sugar in half, until gone. Then slowed my carbs and into a keto diet over a couple weeks next. I become strict for a bit, then I add sweet potatoes here and there every week or so as a treat and to get some nutrients in that. In the past it’s worked for me. We’ll see this time.

One of the better explanations.. not over the top technical. Just a good explanation. Thx. I'm recording food. Everything with an app. Keeping Clos to 75f5-10c&15-20p. Every once in five days. I'll go higher in protein or carbs but with carbs if I go higher my fibre intake will be quite large in comparison to the carb intake. Just was feeling a lot of fatigue came out of nowhere.. this is my third time around on keto diet. First time I lost 60lbs. Second time I got to this point and quit. This time I don't want to quit I want to identify the points of struggle and correct them. The aerobic exercise component,I think I'll try to add as well as a supplement for magnesium and potassium. Thx
