Another benefit to diesels from an electric vehicle enthusiast is that you can store it at house. I’m in Ireland and my house has a diesel storage tank. Because I live in the middle of nowhere, the nearest fuel station is miles away I can refuel my cars at my house. The tank is 3000L and I get it filled when oil prices are low saving money by not paying forecourt prices. I last got it filled in 2020 during Covid 19 lockdown and it cost around €1.05 per litre and now it’s €2.01 per litre. What’s nice is that when I need to refill my cars, I just either drive them over as close as possible to the tank and fill it up with a funnel and a hose nozzle or jerrycan it into the cars. My 3 main cars are diesels one is an ev and the other one is petrol. Diesels are far from dead if you live in rural areas.

We don't generally ban things outright here in the UK. Diesel fuel will go the same way as cigarettes, also not banned. The fuel will get higher and higher taxed, like the ciggies, to reduce consumption and 'nudge' people away from it.

Too bad we're so reliant on diesel lorries and vans for food deliveries. Its just gonna cost us more in the supermarkets.

Great video and very relevant. I used to always have diesels and they were great cars, very reliable and loved the torque! But last few yrs I've been petrol and the economy is just never the same. A lot of petrol hybrids, like the 09 Prius I have can have the same economy levels as a diesel! But they are demonised. I've always thought filling up less would mean lower emissions overall. But I'm not sure. I saw a review for an Arteon (hate VAG) but it is 800miles on a full tank! That would do me for month and that's with a fair few miles on weekends.

Think diesels still have a place my previous two cars were diesel a Volvo C30 and BMW 1 series, both very economic BMW seem to edge it I found now own a BMW 225xe which is a PHEV combining a 1.5 petrol engine running the front wheels and a electric power train running the rear wheels plenty of torque scary quick, I do have some long runs to do but most is a 6 mile commute where we have free to use electric charging points

What is the benefit of having a diesel over of a petrol engine? Are they less reliable more reliable and do they actually save you money. Because I have been thinking of getting a TDI Volkswagen.
@AutumnWind92

Diesel engines usually last longer, also it gives better gas mileage. People in poorer countries tend to run on diesel because its more reliable and cheaper. TDI is good.

If you look at what's happening in Europe, it's a fair indicator of where we in Britain will be in the not too distant future. Both Paris and Berlin have banned diesel cars from their city centres. New diesel sales in the UK are now down 60%. Buying a new diesel today, in 2022, will mean you take a huge hit in residual value in 3 to 5 years time, when you want to trade it. Whatever you think it might be worth, knock £3k off that...... The UK has literally dozens of Clean Air Zones waiting in the wings, to be introduced over the next few years.....

I wonder what size turbine generator could be fitted under hood, then anything burning could be used as fuel, and they could produce energy for homes too while parked.

I’m wanting to buy a new car, will it be pointless me getting a diesel when I only drive 10 minutes to and from work everyday?
@IBANEZfil
@IBANEZfil Год назад
It depends. When starting the engine from cold, diesels require more time to reach its peak efficiency compared to petrol. It's just down to the fact that diesel is a more efficient fuel (less heat produced). Keep in mind that modern diesels have EGR valves, DPF filters etc which contribute to soot problems in the future, especially when driving short distances. I will always recommend a diesel, but if you only drive 10 mins per drive then unfortunately it may not be worth it. I have a diesel and I do 20-30 minutes of highway driving once per week to compensate for all the short distance driving.
@JoshXCVIII

You definitely should not buy a diesel car. Petrol or petrol hybrid models are so efficient nowadays there isn’t that much a difference in it. Taking in to consideration that petrol is at £1.63 and Diesel is at £1.88, the difference in mpg gained vs what you pay at the pump is negligible. I have a 3.0 diesel and it is up for sale. Am going to buy a petrol or hybrid. Diesel is dead

So little pollution in countryside huh seriously yet I love diesels but old diesels are so bad they should banned but seriously they will be priced out of market soon enough but I fear the price per mile charge is going to happen in London by 2025. All ICE and PHEV vehicles will be charged pence per mile and by 2030 all cars 🚙 will be charged even electric ⚡️ ones. Period! 😒

Diesel is a commercial fuel. It shouldn’t be used for cars, only SUVs, pickups and commercial vehicles. It’s quite simple.

Why should it not be used for cars? Post-2015 diesel engines are less polluting than petrol, and contribute less to the greenhouse effect...
