You might want to test the charge time with that “15watt” claim Apple is making. Other reviewers actually tested it against the “slower cheaper Qi chargers” and found the Qi chargers were faster charging fro 10% to 50%. Basically quoting what’s on the package isn’t a great way to review a product

I’m a huge Apple fan, but I’m not considering purchasing one of these right now for a few reasons. One, the color. There’s a rumor Apple may offer it in other colors in the near future. Second, the amount of power. I get the math, but 2K of power is not nearly enough for me. And finally, the price versus what you’re getting here. I understand the tight integration into iOS, and that is a major plus for me. But for value, there is zero chance I’m paying a hundred bucks for a 2K battery. That’s just not happening.

I’m more interested in Apple’s battery due to battery health and how it manages it. I’ve had smart cases on multiple phones, and I love how it was able to run the case first and not just constantly topping of the phone. So if their MagSafe pack has considerations of this, it’ll probably be enough to sway me for their pack. Not for the Apple logo, but the longevity of the device battery.

We all knew that. Apple won’t go USB C on iPhones. They’ll go wireless before they do that. And honestly, MagSafe is going in the wireless direction. Apple makes crazy boat loads of money off of lightning accessories from 3rd parties. There is no way they ditch the lightning cable. No way.

@Ferry Gunadi I still think we are at least 2-3yrs away from Apple ditching the port on an iPhone. MagSafe just came out, they won’t make another drastic change port/charging wise for another few years. They still want everyone to adopt MagSafe and get comfortable with it first.

I’m going with Apples battery pack. I ordered it earlier today. I have used their battery cases for several years and they work great. Now I won’t have to buy a new battery case every year.

I ordered it within 10 minutes of it hitting apples website. I have an Anker ‘magsafe’ battery pack and I’m upgrading for most of the reasons listed here. Not really worried about price, yeah it’s more expensive… but still good value for several years use.

Apple should’ve kept the battery smart case available for newer iPhone models. I really like it because it’s integrated with iOS, quick camera button, well protected case, and most of all, a battery. I don’t want to carry around another frickin accessory that could be misplaced.

Im thinking that we will be able to charge the ipad with it as well. I like the magsafe battery pack. I can use it with my iphone then take it off when i dont want it super easy. Still keep my anker in the car because i can charge my laptop

Verizon has a deal right now for a MagSafe charger, usb c wall plug, and apple MagSafe battery pack for $120 which makes the battery pack about $60-70. Definitely worth it to me at that price especially because I haven’t seen it that low anywhere

I purchased the Anker charger before Apple came out with their version. I can’t even use my phone with the Anker charger connected or my phone will overheat and shut down.

Just a little mistake about charging speeds, this is what the apple website says: When charging on the go, your MagSafe Battery Pack can charge your iPhone with up to 5W of power. If connected to a 20W or higher power source, it can charge with up to 15W of power.

Not a mistake, I say it can handle UP to 15W of power, which is true. The other Qi ones do 5W as well but Apple can do up to 15W when plugged in whereas the others are capped.

Yes and no... it charges at the same 5W, but it is much more efficient. Much less energy is wasted in the process, hence why Apple can have a smaller battery but offer almost the same capacity

Consider this. You could buy a 25 dollar battery pack with 15-20 watts of charging and 10000mah that contains magsafe, or you could buy a 99$ battery pack that has less than 1500mah and the same 15-20 watt output

@@kevinambrocio6825 no battery pack will “kill your battery” they do emit heat which could damage components but it won’t directly kill it and the MagSafe battery pack does the exact same thing either way but at a more expensive price point

I disagree. The apple MagSafe battery is amazing. I use it daily. Consider this. I don’t use a case, so it kind of helps me grip my phone. I think the features people overlook include the smart trickle charging for battery health, and the integration and animations that help with the device experience. It helps me get to the end of the day comfortably so when I lay in bed at night I don’t have to charge until I actually go to sleep. And I just plug the lighting Into the pack and it’s ready to go in the morning.

I normally agree with you on apple products but this is a big No for me I went with the Mophie after doing a lot of research and I’m very happy with my purchase for my iPhone 13 pro max and the extra ring that I was able to put on my 11 pro max was a great bonus as well

For the price it should be able to be charged wirelessly. So I can put my iPhone down on a MagSafe or MagSafe Duo Charger with the battery pack attached and it charge both at the same time.

That would be good as long as the efficiency isn't impacted too much. imagine wasting 50% energy just to charge the phone. Why not use the battery pack as the magsafe charger, i.e you no longer need the Duo charger. (obviously better for people who don't already have it).

belkin seems like a better alternative £29 compared to apples £100, has true magsafe, same 5W charging by itself and pass through from phone to power bank (idk if it also can act as a wireless charger for phone like the apple one)

I’ve been using apples battery pack. And no it doesn’t charge really fast, or a full 100%. But that isn’t what it is meant for. Even apple states that it’s meant for emergency uses. Where you just need some extra beaters to finish the day. Like at work and phone battery is going to die. Slap this on and it’ll get you home. It also has built in safety features that protect your battery in your iPhone. That regular wireless chargers don’t.

I'm gonna buy slightly used versions of these at eBay at 1/2-1/3 of the retail cost, like I did with all previous generations This follow up cover it so much better :) Still, no mention on how other cases block radio frequencies and enable iPhone docked mode on the go (doing backup, installing apps, etc) Do you not watch Rene Ritchie?

Good device, but don't expect it to stick to a Tech 21 case. Maybe a Tech 21 sold by Apple would be better but mine (bought from my phone carrier T-Mobile) doesn't stick to the pack at all.

Priced fine for me. Works beautifully on my 12 Mini. Charge it overnight. Pop it on quickly once, maybe twice a day for a quick boost. I love it.

However much bells and whistles Apple puts into this thing, all I want for a Magsafe like powerbank to do (and what I believe a lot of other iPhone 12 users are looking for) is charge wirelessly and stick onto the back of my phone while I'm on the go and have a decent sized battery. If a €40 powerbank with Qi wireless charging and a magnetic ring achieves just that, then it's a no-brainer to get that over a €109 battery pack with a similarly sized battery. Things like iOS integration and the battery health management are of course nice things to have, but are they really worth €69 (nice) more? Also, I feel like most people don't see lightning as an advantage over USB-C

Once I knew I was upgrading from my iPhone 7 - the 14. I went ahead and started buying magsafe products. I got the otterbox 3-1 charger a Apple magsafe battery pack. Then a otterbox magsafe battery pack a Apple wallet. I also purchased a couple if those magsafe pucks. One apple and another one from a sports team store. I also purchased a couple Bluetooth magsafe wireless chargers so I can support my teams that I follow. Yes I still have the cords lighting and micro cords to charge devices. But since I got the new iPhone 14 I’m loving the battery life. I haven’t had to charge my phone until I go to bed. I just put it on the magsafe 3-1 charger and then I put my Apple Watch on the watch charger in the back of the 3-1 charger. In the morning when I wake up around 8:30-10 am the phone is ready for my day.

I’ve had mine 3 days I looked at all the reviews on it before buying and I like the fact that it has updatable firmware and integrates with iOS I haven’t seen any other pack that do that and I like that it’s thin and lightweight I hardly notice it’s there when on my phone I choose the apple mag safe because I know it won’t damage my phone that’s why safe is In it’s name and those are the pros in my opinion the cons for me is that it should be able to fully charge your phone and the price i also wish it was capable of charging AirPods wirelessly just by placing AirPods on top I do plan on getting a second one I’m sure in the future apple will eventually come out with a newer pack with more milliamperes and more colors and have more features like having the pack automatically start charging your phone when it drops to a percentage u choose

I find that when the MagSafe is connected just wirelessly to my 12 pro max it takes far too long to charge the phone. I have seen it sitting for 15 mins and only 1% being added. The MagSafe battery is for when you DONT HAVE access to plug in power. I am a bit disappointed that is charges so slowly while on the move, i feel my external battery pack with lightening connector charges faster. Any advice if i am doing something wrong??

Its meant to do that when streaming video or playing games or heavy usage batterpack wont charge due to heat management It acts as extension of battery NOT A CHARGER Try to slap it when iphone is at 90 percent Go about your day See the difference

I'm not sure that I'll have much need for a battery pack (I haven't had one for the past seven years, so why would I need one now?). But if I do find that I need one, I'd probably go with the one from Apple. But since I'm in no hurry, I'll wait for at least a few months and see what experiences people have who do buy them.

Charging speed is ridiculously slow when not plugged into the wall. I believe 70-80 minutes to go from 10 to 50%. Unless you HAVE to have the apple product, go with the Mophie. Disclaimer: I saw this tested on a separate video and relaying that information.

This is misleading. Most people will NOT use this when it is plugged in. The Apple Support article states “When charging on the go, your MagSafe Battery Pack can charge your iPhone with up to 5W of power.” This is slower than some of the third party options. Something like Zagg’s offering has a USB-C port, not just for charging the battery pack, but for charging another device as well. I got one and it’s great.

If you want to charge both in the fastest time at the same time then plug into Battery pack - it's faster than reverse wireless charging. Not sure if it charges the phone first.

Whats the point of 15w ig its only whrn plugged in? Just get a $40 magsafe charger. Mophie does 7.5w true wireless, thats 50% fastet than Apple's.

It would be nice if the MagSafe battery pack would change with the belkin MagSafe charger stand at least

Not really, if you carry around the lightning cable with the battery pack, it would be pretty much the same thing as carrying around a massive charging puck. The difference is now you’re carrying a MagSafe charging puck that can be disconnected from the cable and give your phone extra battery life when there’s no wall outlet around.

@@AnonymousOG the point of gaving MagSafe to begin with is that you wouldn’t have to have a lightning. I always thought it was stupid bc MagSafe is even bigger but the point still stands, you’re eliminating the need for the other. With this battery pack you still need to carry a lightning and can’t go fully MagSafe if you wanted

Some reviewers are saying that the charging on this particular device is very slow. One tester said that it took 2 hours to charge his phone from 75% to 100% using Apple's original magsafe unit. I'm not seeing the $100 value in this. This device is worth $30 at most. Although the price of something does not determine its effectiveness, apple is notorious for overcharging for their products. I'm sorry, but this is just not worth $100.

The lighting cable compatibility is huge for me!! I have mostly lightning cables in my home. Just 1 USBc and a few older usb micro from other portable chargers I have but I hate using them. To be able to use the same charger I use on all my home devices makes life a lot easier. I no longer have to hunt for that different cable. I can just use all my lighting cables that are already there. 😍😍😍😍😍

@@tbfrstudio5416 Thank you for the suggestion. But it wouldn’t work because I have all iPhones in my family. Only 1 Android. If I switch to all usb c I would have to sell all the iPhones and buy everyone an android. Right now my family is happy with their iPhones so no point going usb c. But this battery pack allows me to keep everything as is and have a portable wireless charger without having to change everything. In fact I don’t have to change anything. That’s what I like about this product.

@@HausOfMontague I have only iPhones and everything else uses USB-C, including my MacBook and iPad Pro. Not to mention that having a usb-c outlet in the powerbank is way better than lightning since even iPhone cables are USB-c to lightning. So yes, usb-c is a huge plus and not a downside at all!

I love the battery pack.. of course all depends on battery usage. I only use Pro Max models.. i have the 14PM... . 2 scenarios: one heavy usage: 9am 100% iphone 100% battery pack: doing alot of phone calls, screen recordings, sending text messages, work, email, responding to social media messages, then gym listening to music etc... by 2pm battery pack died and phone was 90% so a good 5hrs extra of battery life: by end of day 11pm or so was around 15% battery and then charged my phone that day like around 12hrs of active screen time somewhat light usage disconnected my phone at 3:30am 100% battery and slapped on the apple battery pack aslo at 100% for this one the battery pack died until 5:30pm (NOT EXAGGERATING) so it was around 14hrs but this time i only had like 5hrs 40min of active screen time; so a lighter use. but still was using my phone a bit for phone calls, messages, screen recordings etc. and same thing phone was at 90% after it died. so again, all depends on use case scenarios, but I feel if you use it with iphone at 100% it comes in super clutch . and it's worth it if you use it correctly

I'm thinking 1 charge if your lucky, belkin have a similar one and the battery size is 2500mah so around the size of the iphone 12 mini, but i guess the bigger the battery the bigger the power bank and the weight also increases

@pablo brazon yeah I’ve bought a Duracell 6700mah power bank a while back and that could barely charge an iPhone 7 Plus to full. And that’s with a wire so it’s the most efficient

Dont hold your breath. Forget about charging your pro max 1 time. It will probably only do up to 60-80% at most. This isnt for max users anyways. Its more for those times where you forgot to charge your iphone night before , or in emergencies. More convenience than anything.

It will only charge Pro Max to 25%. The battery bank is only 38% the capacity of Pro Max’s battery and once you take into account conversion loss and wireless transmission loss, 25% is the most you can get

Great video, couldn't agree more. I was going to go with the cheaper ones but just decided to try the apple one. Glad I did. I think the complaint is legitimate, but also I don't get how much extra battery do you want? Having had this on my phone, it's the perfect size. The one thing I didn't think about is weight, so personally I wouldn't want any heavier than this pack. So if you want to charge your phone more the things going to weigh a ton, until they come up with better technology for weight/capacity.

Far superior? - Anker's Is Qi, not MagSafe - Slower - No direct iOS integration for Lock Screen or battery widget - No battery health management - Larger size - Similar capacity - No reverse wireless charging - Less efficient But yeah, because it is cheaper means it is far superior... Not trying to hate but exactly what we're trying to explain in this video. Other brands jumped to market to beat Apple and they took shortcuts. We see inferior quality and lower prices.

I’m a heavy Apple user but I fully believe in the antitrust lawsuits against them, they make the advantages for themselves and charge a premium bc you can’t get them elsewhere

@@AppleInsider If you don’t need those list of things and want: - a little magnetically attached 5000mAh battery pack - that wirelessly charges at a decent enough speed - that comes with a USB C cable - and the ability to charge it up without being attached to your phone all the time - and the ability to use it to charge other devices - and you don’t want to spend $100 after paying Apple $1000 already for a phone….. Then in conclusion, yes, my opinion is that the Anker 5k is a far superior purchase
