Why You Should Go Small on Mastodon 

Actuallly the more general the better. I personallly don't like the idea of servers based on interest because it creates the exacxt confusion you are having;. Go for general, then follow hashtags not entire servers. Start following people. There is no algorithm to curate this for you. We are the algorithm. this is the way facebook actually used to be, but then zuck took over and started controlling what he wanted you to see and we all forgot what it was like to do it for ourselves. If its boring, then you just need to follow more people. I find it takes following around 50-100 people to make place fun and interesting its a bit of work but once you do you see a whole new experience that hasn't existed in corporate internet in over a decade.

@@anubis2814 Though doesn't this just add to the other problem of more people piling onto the same server? Isn't the point of the Fedaverse to make it so all the power isn't concentrated in one place? Seems like a catch 22.

@@2stoon So you can't follow people from different servers huh? I thought the server doesn't matter - you can reach across servers because it's all Web 3.0 Compliant #W3C right?

@@anubis2814 A bit abrupt but yes - agreed - however from a novice perspective a bit more clarity is needed - we will only confuse & drive others away if we jump through so much technical understanding. We need tons of media pieces - info graphics - video demos - tutorials - guides - covering each topic - nice & slowly - simple language - one case at a time. Just how I found your video here. We need devs, creatives, artists, people as themselves talking openly about the open net, open web, fediverse, all of it. Needs to become household language. Elon did us all a favor destroying the Twitter brand - made a giant gap for fediverse language to show up. Don't reference Twitter anymore - it's Elon's wishes after all. Reference how the fediverse solves a problem X has. Reddit has. Snapchat has. Instagram has. Threads has. Facebook has. Use new language to describe these ancient failing systems. Be honest about it - pull from personal experience. One by one. Minorities are harassed via all those networks. Men just shove their body image media right on women - angry people harass minorities there to no end - they just have millions to keep it quiet & deny it. Well talk about it. Talk about how fediverse could be better if only people acted that way. Be open. Just some ideas.🎙

@@CHADMicDUP there is a local view and a global view. Global view you can see other instances without restrictions unless they banned your instance for some reasons. I am trying to get my own instance up this year. I'm a socialist that has more libertarian views on free speech (I'm ok with all speech as long as it isn't breaking any laws. That doesn't mean I agree with said speech, it just means I think people are allowed to be wrong and to be vocal about it. 🤣😂)
