Weyes Blood's 'Titanic Rising' is an album that sounds like both the past and the future.
A 70s-inspired record made for the wild times we're living in today.
If you miss the melodies, harmonies, and earnestness of music from fifty years ago, I can't recommend this special, introspective, and beautiful record enough.

A Boomer Geezer here, one who lived through the musical smorgasboard of late 60's and 70's. I've been looking for contemporary music with that kind of depth, warmth, and individual creativity. I think I've found it. Weyes Blood is a revelation. No eye rolling here. This woman is a serious artist, helping listeners of all ages process these wildly bizarre and dangerous times.

Titanic Rising didn't hit me the first time I heard it, but I ended up revisiting it months later and the whole thing just made sense. It's since become my favorite album of the past decade among contemporary music. It hits me on such a personal level, sometimes moving me to tears. I went to go and see Father John Misty's UK/Europe tour a few years ago. Weyes Blood was the opening act and she was incredible. It was the first show of the whole tour, and during FJM's set Weyes Blood came out to where we were sitting to watch him live. I asked her if she wanted to sit on the end of our row as there was nobody sitting there but she said she didn't want to be in the way and chose to stand and watch the set. She also went out of her way to hold the door open for people who were coming and going. I became a big fan after first being exposed to her since then and glad she's getting some more recognition

I'm Mexican so forgive my English: 🌌 A really underrated album, i never thought you would talk about this masterpiece, In my opinion this is the álbum you can name when some music purist say: "today's music is trash". And this album is not good because of that 70s sound,but for the composition of the songs, in my opinion this is the way that modern music should go from now on, a perfect example of creativity and softness audio with deep lyrics, and it's been only a few years since this came out, only the time will say if this album is gonna be the best album of the 2010's. Anyway, great video 📷 and you literally take the words of my mind about the influences of the carpenters and beach boys, with that ocean sound.
@Y-two-K
@Y-two-K Год назад
To be fair, when people are talking about today's music being trash, they're more referring to the mainstream big hits. Which I do agree has been on a steady decline since the 80's, with a few exceptions.
@forest60s63
@forest60s63 Год назад
@@Y-two-KI agree with that but there's really people out there generalizing this generation and when someone try to explain why today's music is the same as good as the 60's classic they close their mind, and it's funny because all the people that I have heard saying that, is the same people that say: "rock is culture" but they only knows guns and roses and think that Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson are the greatest artist and singers of all time.

Really enjoyed this video, and I agree with everything you say about Weyes Blood and Titanic Rising. I think this woman is the "real deal" in terms of songwriting and singing. I'm in my late sixties, and used to be a singer and songwriter myself, but in my early forties illness and disability put paid to all of that. For a long while I couldn't listen to singer /songwriters, it was too painful, but now I take an avid interest in songwriting. Obviously, I love the musicians of "my" generation - e.g Joni Mitchell, Tim Buckley and Nick Drake. However, I think there are some amazing musicians around now, such as Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes and Sujan Stevens. There are also some contemporary singer songwriters who I listen to who are in my view criminally underrated, such as Will Stratton (particularly the album "the Changing Wilderness ), Jenny Lysander and Raoul Vignell (Years in Marble) The music is more stripped back than "Titanic rising" but definitely worth a listen

I've always had a hard time "getting into" music. Music was just background noise to me and up until my early 20s, I didn't understand what all the fuzz was about? How people could get so emotional, listening to the same tracks over and over again. How everybody else's teen years were full of musical memories and mine weren't. I'm still not as deep into music as I'd like to be... but it's thanks to people like you, who sit down and explain it to me, that I've started feeling it. In the past couple of years, I've finally found music that moves me. And that's been a revelation. :) So, thank you! I'm excited to check out this album!

What a well executed video and I wish more people knew about the creation of the album cover, it's truly a miracle that it exists. Good stuff 👏!

One of my favorite albums of all time. It doesn’t feel like a nostalgia trip like silk sonic or other albums you mention, it still feels modern especially in the lyrics. The sincerity I can definitely see as comparable to artists like Joni Mitchell, but Titanic Rising is honestly just an incredible record.

THIS is the music I’ve been searching for. Thank you Elliot. The sounds of the past while doing something new. More than an imitation. You explained it so well. Bravo, friend

Since Covid started I've not really been listening to much music because I didn't want to keep playing the same songs that I liked over and over again but I couldn't find much new stuff that didn't feel boring to me except for some stuff you recommended in your best of 2020 video. Then a couple of weeks ago after seeing Moonage Daydream I started really working my way through Bowie's discography, not just listening to the hits and my mind keeps being blown. I haven't felt so excited about music really scince 2019 after seeing Rocket Man and checking out a lot of Elton's music. Get Back also absolutely blew me away and I'm hearing those songs with new joy. I'm so glad I have this excited feeling back and guys like you and a couple of others here on youtube talking with so much love about music and the musicians behind it and recommending stuff is just tremendous. I started listening to this album and it's heart-breakingly beautiful. A big big thank you for this recommendation. I also can't wait to watch Love and Mercy. Love your channel!

Very accurate. So lucky to be seeing her live in my city which no musician ever comes to because it's a bankers town.
