This is too real. First time I went in there I felt like I was in a capitalist hellscape version of the Minotaurs maze because I had no knowledge of the store layout before hand. Scary indeed.
I was in there once, didn't know anything about there store layout or following the markings on the floor, but I found asking directions is very common. Lol
Jenny and Ken have amazing hair throughout. That’s what the Professor should be studying-think of how much money he could make from whatever product or process lets you dive underwater, grapple with fishpeople, shoot henchmen, and still look ready for a glamorous night on the town!
The best parts of any WMMW reviews are when Mark gets slightly and progressively more unhinged when presented with something truly baffling or infuriating
I served on a ballistic missile sub and your description of the worst thing about it is correct. In most situations, there is a way to leave where you work. Even in other parts of the military there are ways you can quit. In the Army, you can say, "I quit." And they'll say, "whatever, your going to the stockade, enjoy jail." But at least its a different place. And even in the Navy on a surface ship, they'll be like, "Enjoy the brig, quitter," and then a few days later a helicopter or ship will come by and pick you up and take you to navy jail on land. But if you try to quit on a sub, there is no brig and no place to go, so you just have to stay in your rack. You might as well go back to work. There was a chief who had a heart attack on my boat, and he had to wait a week before we could get him evacuated to a hospital. There were a few other medical emergencies that just ended up alright, thankfully, before we could get the people off the boat, or didn't need help anymore.
What I love so much about Mark is his tone and delivery style. It's so perfect for talking about these kinds of films. Mark, your episodes are so rewatchable! This episode will be remembered as a classic, right next to The Pit and The Neverending story 2 (this one I've watched a dozen times over the years.) Never stop, Mark. Your channel was literally the first movie channel I subscribed to and became an avid fan of years ago when I first started using RU-vid. The episode that started it all for me was Battlefield Earth. One of the best episodes IMO. 💕
100% facts. This channel is nice to check out once in a while to binge his new vids and the classic episodes. I actually once sat down with a friend to show him Mark’s Neverending Story 2 review and about a minute in, my friend tells me he has never seen the movie itself… so I made him watch the entire movie just so we could finish the review 😂 We still joke about that from time to time.
My favourite episode is the one with the star wars movie or I believe it was the Christmas special. I was in stitches for 30 min straight even though the video was like 13 minutes
Ya know….funny story here…I was just getting ready to start my own underwater civilization.I had all the materials picked out for the underwater headquarters,I had the paint picked out and everything. But,luckily,I saw this before embarking on that particular adventure and now I know better than to waste my time.I’ll put my energy to better use instead, like trying to make my own black hole,or trying to build a car with wings that I can use to fly into outer space so I can be the first to discover, and converse with,an interstellar civilization.I owe it all to you for revealing to me the folly of my ways.thanks a lot!
How about a time machine? That way, you can go back and prevent this movie from being made. Then you come back to the present, build your city and live happily ever after! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
@@katsuramatsumoto5320 That’s a pretty cool idea, but I think I have a better one:what if I created a machine that could turn me into an animated character,so I could have relations(consensual,of course) with all those sexy animated characters like Taarna from the Heavy Metal movie,Jessica Rabbit,et.Al. I sure hope there’s no such thing as STDs for animated characters!
They were in submarines?? I watched the whole episode and kinda thought they were controlling things remotely. They were INSIDE the submarine?? Wow, spacious indeed.
Sonny Chiba was a total badass, but it's a little sad that many people probably know him for all the terrible sci-fi movies he made and not the awesome and sleazy action movies he made in the 70s and 80s.
What I really appreciate about this channel is the fact that he finds obscure, older movies. Not the same movies on all the other so bad their good channels.
Same! Just thinking about being on a submarine makes my anxiety go through the roof. The idea of being stuck and trapped under water in case there’s an emergency UGH! Great video as always Mark!
I completely agree with Mark’s reasoning for not wanting to go in a submarine. I’d make the same argument about going into space and being on a ship out in the ocean thousands of miles from land. He puts it perfectly. I don’t want to be anywhere that I can’t easily get off/out of. Just the thought makes me vaguely nauseous. Unrelated; I too have pages of intricate doodles from meetings I’ve attended.
I like that they were going all out on these old movie posters. It comes from the sea and is of questionable Japanese descent? Screw it, make it as big as Godzilla lol
Omg that's hilarious, the torpedoes turning around, because the exact thing happened to my dad when he was in the navy. He was the "underwater weapons specialist" so he was below deck actually launching these experimental, dummy torpedoes. Apparently they launched, got about half a km away and did a u turn, banging into the side of the ship lol. My dad was oblivious to the situation, so he launched it, waited, and about 30 seconds later there was a huge thud on the hull almost right next to him. No damage or anything...but they scrapped that design lol.
@@samholdsworth420 Lol no, Canadian submarines are a myth. The cartels home made ones are better. He served on the HMCS Annapolis, there's video of them scuttling it for an artificial reef in BC years ago.
When I saw first saw sonny chiba i was blown away by the brutality of his (street fighter) movies. A definite legend. Should have have karate chopped monsters head off to the next dimension 😂😂
Mark brings up an excellent point here really; what kind of underwater civilization _doesn't_ have a single pizza place? Those workers must be suicidal; there's no place to eat, shop, or anything! This civilization would not have gotten far without, like, a Pizza Hut or Little Ceasar's at least.
You have been surely missed bro, I've been sad, confused and scared that you've been gone and I'm so very grateful you are once back into my life. Mad love!
The part about being on a sub and not being able to leave made me remember childhood road trips where I'd feel travel sick, overly warm (no a/c in them days) or needed the bathroom but my parents would not stop the car and did not like the windows being open. I feel that just gave me a fear of confined spaces. I was once stuck on a flight that would not take off due to bad weather and I was going seriously stir crazy. If you're not going to take off, let us off the plane. Eight hours we sat on that plane on the runway, until finally the flight was canceled. I've hardly flown since that experience - I drive everywhere, even if it takes multiple days (since I can stop when I want, and I have a/c.) Submarine movies always bring all this up in my head. But I still wouldn't volunteer to be a fish cyborg.
regarding the bad guy and his sunglasses: You mentioned Thunderball having come out the year before. In that movie, the bad guy was Emilio Largo and he wore an eye patch which let you know he was the bad guy. In this movie, Cyclops wore sunglasses in an underwater city so you know he's a REALLY bad guy.
In the very first scene, that dry sound of overdubbed vocal-booth voices with no reverb, no background sounds, and so many non sequiturs it seems like everyone is talking to himself, tells me to settle in for a quality cinematic experience worthy of the honorific "weird movie."
Warlords of the Deep is also a cautionary tale about creating an underwater civilization, and that movie stars Vincent Price and the actor who played Mr. Banks in the original Mary Poppins movie 😆
Oh man! I’ve been looking for this movie for years! I had the title wrong, but I’m pretty sure this is it! I saw it on TV when I was young and (for some reason, thought it was awesome). Thank you, Mark!
2:28 that's a really good point. I am a former sailor and yup, no matter how shitty yout job is, you finnish it and you can go back home, but in a ship, you have to be there, surrounded by mthrfckrs constantly, 24 hour available, sea storms...
Just subscribed, 'coz of your youthful critique on the grade-b films of my youth. Virtually every film you've featured is in my library. Undersea sci-fi/horror has been a favorite of mine since my early childhood. I won't list my favorites, since it would be too extensive.Being 60 years, I'm an "old timer". I am a registered scuba diver, though. Probably because of films like that, as well as VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and SEA HUNT. When I was a kid in the '60's, there were ads in comic books to send-away for a two-man submarine for $3.50. Plus shipping & handling. Oh, what adventures I would go on! Image the disappointment a 6 year old boy felt when he got a cardboard box with a submarine printed on the side.
They were humans who were cross eyed, because of the ridicule they had to put up with on the land they volunteered to become sea monsters on the promise they would no longer be cross eyed but it was a lie by Sunglasses and now they have to live with it.
Anyone who's played Bioshock knows that life is not, in fact, better down where it's wetter, especially when you end up in an objectivist hellscape full of people who can shoot bees out of their hands...
Last time someone tried to build an underwater city it devolved into a cesspool of cannibalistic drug addicts and lethal scuba suit wearing baby sitters.
This was unspectular, but the usual high level how Mark hosts his show. Mark, you do an awesome work! I really adore your channel! It's time for you to review "The man who saved the world" or "Turkish Star Wars", I suppose. ;)
7:20 When you said, “commander brown says ‘oh my god! They’ve been under water for 5 hours now. Can we at least get some chairs?’” It was the last thing I expected to hear and my spirit jumped out my body 💀
It is nice to see these videos getting better and better. I think that Mark has really found his own style, so keep up the good work and continue finding these kind of films to review, thanks :)
Yes there seemed to make a number of these Japanese /US co-productions in the mid-60s I like Green Slime. If you ever hear the soundtrack it made singing about green slime cool.
Once again a film demonstrates the law that the best and most efficient way to open a door is the doorknob. Come to think of it, inventing the doorknob was a major step forward for civilization.
The same with escalators that go only one way, and no escalator next to it to go the other way. Sure, have escalators, but give us the old stairs as well!
The funny part about the beginning is that the torpedo is actually working as intended. It ignores the decoys and homes right in on the real ship. That's what you want a homing torpedo to do.
Hey Mark, I had to actively look for your newest post via your channel didn't even show up in my subscription section for some reason. Happy to see you've got a new video out!
You know, those evil sausages may have a cloaca. So you'd have to stick a finger in there to find out what your getting. With male alligators, they're always at the ready, as it were, so its easy to tell once you're in there.
