I expected more from ROBOTS & FIRE - Gog (1954) 

I swear you find some of the weirdest movies ever made..and that's the main reason for me supporting the channel..you have the talent to turn these weird movies into a hilarious watch..love it.. Hope your surgery goes well and recovery soon..

Fun fact jim Henson brought in nasa robotics engineers to work on fraggle rock and they made a lot of advancements in robotics working on a kids show.

"To the show" has been given all new meaning to me. I wait to hear how long and what pitch it will be. I love how the 50's described the future, so innocent and so damn scary.

i love 50s and 60s scifi. it's so quaint. i'm always wondering why the syfy channel doesn't play this kind of stuff late at night. it would be awesome.

This movie was the third and final film in the OSI (Office of Scientific Investigation) trilogy. It was okay but hampered by the wooden acting of Richard Egan and Constance Dowling. Only Hollywood heavyweight Herbert Marshall saves it. The other movies in the series were "Riders to the Stars" (the worst of the trio) and "The Magnetic Monster," the first and best, with Richard Carlson and King Donovan. That movie benefited from being able to repurpose an obscure but effective German science fiction film called "Gold" (1930). Oddly, Richard Carlson's character Jeff Stewart from "The Magnetic Monster" was not reprised in either of the sequels and, in fact, Carlson played a completely different character in "Riders to the Stars" (he went from strong leading man to sniveling coward). The success of his TV show "I Led Three Lives," along with "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" and his ill-fated directorial debut in "Riders to the Stars" kept him from filming "Gog," which was probably fortunate, though it also might have kept him from getting behind the camera.

When you watch a movie all the way to the end, realize it left you empty, and then say: "Oh my, Gog!" You know it did something to you! 😄

The interesting thing is experiment at the start of the film is totally real. Scientists would freeze hamsters beyond the limit (all the water molecules in the body would be frozen) and put a hot spatula in its chest region to revive it again and it worked! But to do this in a more sophisticated way, they created microwave oven that we use in our houses. They would put the frozen hamsters in that oven and bring it back to life again. They had microwave oven back then but it was only for industrial use. It's so fascinating that this experiment gave us microwave oven right in our houses. Godspeed with the surgery, mark. Office of Scientific Investigation trilogy! Respect! I didn't realize that, since it's in color and 3D and doesn't have Richard Carlson, but this must be the follow up to The Magnetic Monster, and the whole series is the clear inspiration for The X Files.

I like that the lab has a window wiper to clear fog or frost, or whatever, from the window. Very futuristic.

What if poltergeists are just monkey ghosts? Knocking over shit, swinging from the ceiling fan, scratching people. Paranormal Activity could be entirely explained by this, even being dragged from the bed.

Calling the robots Gog and Magog is like building an airplane and call it Icarus.

A lot better than the latest movies with Bruce Willis.

OMG! I actually SAW this movie back in my youth but had forgotten all about it! It was the random waving of the robots' arms that brought it all back to me. Of all the nonsense in this film, that dopey arm-waving is what shattered my willing suspension of disbelief and crossed the line into hokum for me. I was fine with everything else. It seems pretty obvious to me now that they had all these sciencey props but no idea of how real science actually worked or what it did. Some smoke & flames and that was their answer for everything. That forest of tuning forks though!

Overhead projectors were used in schools for a short while and the teacher somehow never knew how to use it. Edit: they also didn't know how to use the wheely cart tv's vcr/dvd or remote so they would always call over a random student to get the machine to play the movie.

This movie should be preserved because of its depiction of the Turing machine. I have never seen such a good example of the concept of early programming. Looks like either the makers of movies were passionate about computers or they did their research. I hope these people lived to see the early PCs.

You know, the way GOG can follow complicated commands so well made me think it could be used remotely to carry out tasks too dangerous for humans... But, also the danger room full of electronic tuning forks helped me to understand how something like that could never be a thing. It's the 50s, and there is no task too dangerous for a pack a day smoking, manly man! F--k robots, yo!

I remember hanging in there through the crushing boredom because I was absolutely convinced that the ending would make it worth it. My favorite classic sci-fi movie. Not Forbidden Planet, but Gog.

I first heard of this movie during the 1980s, when the short-lived “Enter” magazine did a story about movies with robots. When the restoration was performed and it was released on Blu-ray, I was finally able to see this movie after 30-something years of wondering about it! Its ideas are thought-provoking and prescient, but I was expecting it to be scarier than it was. The most disturbing thing is how the word GOG is written in the trailer and on the posters. The restoration, however, is absolutely gorgeous, and it was definitely worth seeing this obscure piece of American film history. Peace.
