I’ve been a petrol head my whole life, we bought a model Y performance a year ago as addition to simply add miles and avoid congestion charging, it’s doing about 20k a year. We’ve had no issues, no squeaks, nothing, charges overnight for £3-£4. I didn’t think we’d like it, but it has impressed me. Especially so driving in and out of London everyday. It’s relaxing to drive, yet has enough torque to leave most for dead! I just see it in much the same way as an iPhone. Also, the interior is holding up well, at 21k the bolsters look new, white seats look new. My autobiography seats at just 5k were showing signs of wear. Also still on first set of tyres, so the savings so far have been massive in a year, close to £5k. Depreciation, value at webuyanycar is £37,500, bought it for £61k. So that’s not great, but the intention is to do at least 100k in it. Time will tell.

I think people are over hyping the noise of internal combustion engines and making it a deal killer for electric cars and let's not forget that most people are driving boring diesel and petrol cars that are far from sounding exciting. I'd rather have the silence of an electric car over the droning noise of a diesel car.

Mark you have touched a nerve with this one we got my wife a Tesla model Y and I hate it, I hate the regenerative braking, the look of it the way it handles, lack of noise supposed to do 315 miles. It only get about 215, the glass roof has cracked going to have to wait weeks for a new one, the insurance is 2 & a half times the price of the Q5 it tries to control the journey and randomly puts the brakes on, the phone key thing works when it wants it took me longer to order a new iPhone than it did this car, it creaks and rattles after 12 months, and the good news is we only have 3 years left on the lease happy to do you a deal on the remaking 3 years 😂

I’ve been saying it for years and I’m glad you mentioned it Mark they are soulless electric cars. Not proper petrol head if you only own electric car plus you can’t do track days.

That "engine braking" is "one pedal driving". You just have to use one pedal to speed up or slow down. Only if you have to break hard, you use the break pedal.
