Why You Should NEVER Eat Oatmeal. A Response to Dave Asprey the Bulletproof Coffee Guy

You know what’s wild?
Dave Asprey (the guy most famous for popularising 'bulletproof coffee') openly admitting he dislikes a food because it is cheap and it has been used to keep poor people alive.
Let me make one thing straight.
I do not give even half a hoot if you want to eat oats. I like them, but not everyone does, and that’s cool.
But please, for the love of all that is holy, can we stop this trend of people exaggerating how dangerous foods are?
I am fed up of people making cheap and nutritious foods sound like they are the spawn of satan especially when they have a habit of promoting very expensive foods that they make a profit from.
A lot of these food fearmongers wouldn't know their arse from their elbow if you actually talked to them about nutrition science. It's not science they care about, it's catchy clickbait content to rile you up.
All I want is for people to talk honestly about the pros and cons of foods without the unnecessary fear mongering.
Is that too much to ask?
P.S. my best-selling book, ‘Everything Fat Loss’ is currently on sale at Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo, Google, and at Amazon with an extra 10% off in the USA and an extra 24% off in Canada. Feel free to grab it before the price goes up.

My favorite quote about oatmeal: 😂 "Dr Johnson, who entertained a great dislike for the Scots, and lost no opportunity of saying bitter things against them, once defined oats as "in Scotland food for Scotchmen; but in England food for horses." He was well answered by the indignant Scotchman, who replied, "Yes, and where can you find such men as in Scotland, or such horses as in England?" -anonymous, _What to Cook, and How to Cook It_ (c. 1890)

He didn’t say anything about poor people surviving in today’s world though. Historically he refers to it as “peasant food” because every American today can afford animal products.

Now I know why that famous marathon runner was making a joke about having oatmeal for breakfast before he won his race. Dont think the first point is entirely fair though, I think his argument was more that it was the bare minimum given by the rich to the poor, and better food was reserved for the rich? Probably still bollocks but not quite the same as your argument suggests.

a good rule of thumb for whether or not to take advice on weight loss or living a healthier life from somebody - if they break down the complexities to a single food or compound, chances are you're being scammed. some oatmeal won't specifically keep you fat and no amount of apple cider vinegar will make you thin. the problem with the weight loss industry is that the grey areas of scientific study gives malefactors a million dark corners in which to hide; I've come to realise that anyone, anyone taking umbrage with a specific type of food is practically always out to sell you something, and if it were ever truly that easy, there would be no overweight people. side note - this is the guy that convinced people to lose weight you need to guzzle oily coffee in the morning? lol. I don't think RU-vid will let me say what I'd like to about someone like him so we'll leave it at that.

It only restricts mineral absorption for the meal that contains oatmeal. So, as long as oatmeal is consumed as part of a varied diet then it is not a problem. The benefits of eating oatmeal outweigh any detriments.

TIPP ON EDITING STYLE: Watched your recent videos and this video twice. Consider doing one-shot videos or reduce the cutting. The Lustig video was pretty much a one take, wasn't it? That's your style imho. Why? You always have a point. Typically overediting a video (cutting after every sentence, zooming in and out of face, sorry even the studies popping up or fading in for a couple of seconds) signals someone without any argument on the youtube. You DO however always have an argument. Frankly, the recent videos were hard to follow because of the style. I am a 39 year old theoretical physicist trying to make a channel about longevity. Why should you care? I eat organic oat every breakfast and I knew phytates because I have the science background. If I can't follow your videos easily a layman watching your videos on first day won't understand much. I will come back to your channel in a few days. Maybe I just have to get used to your style to understand more at first try. ON THE VIDEO: Yeah, Asprey makes a fool of himself. Thumbs up for your video.

Dave Asprey is the classic 21st century opportunist. Once upon a time not that long ago in the last century you had to be qualified and actually decent at something to write a book, practice or speak. By the way that photo on the wall does not look like you - photoshopped??

Oatmeal is only "bad" if you're on a keto diet. For the rest of us, it's a high fiber food with lots of nutrients (and pretty tasty IMHO, too!).

You totally took this out of context to create the “click bait” which you speak of… you should take a look at who published and paid for these “review papers.” Maybe try referencing some science backed studies to prove your point.
@BenCarpenter
@BenCarpenter 8 месяцев назад
I didn’t take this out of context at all, it is literally the video he posted to his own social media pages. “Science backed studies” doesn’t even make sense. It’s clear this video ruffled your feathers, but if that’s the case you might want to check why you trust Dave Asprey or you think oats are bad for you
@ARR88338
@ARR88338 8 месяцев назад
You sampled a fraction of the video and took what he said out of context. Still disappointed but at least David introduced me to you… I never said I don’t eat oatmeal or drink oatmilk. Reading your science-backed articles now… so far found an old one where in the diet included ham and margarine, one article with various comments by other scientists (woof), one with only Swedish girls used as the sample size… I’ll keep muddling through. Thanks for the info…
@BenCarpenter
@BenCarpenter 8 месяцев назад
no, I didn’t edit the video to reduce it to a sample I could take out of context. This is the context it was posted on social media. There was nothing else to the video he posted which changed the context of the video
@valeriereneeharper
@valeriereneeharper 25 дней назад
@@BenCarpenter I personally noticed immediately that you took it out of context. You know every poor person in America can afford animal products right? So clearly you misrepresented him and made a straw man argument. You attacked a point that he didn’t even make. Lazy or malicious. One of the two.
@BenCarpenter
@BenCarpenter 25 дней назад
@@valeriereneeharperonce again, this was not taken “out of context”. Do you know what this means? If I snipped an answer in an interview and made it sound like that answer was to a different question, THAT is taking it out of context. This is the video he posted. It was dumb. I replied. Simple.
