1:17 New information on oatmeal
7:00 Is eating breakfast healthy?
7:17 Learn more about the benefits of skipping breakfast!
Is oatmeal bad for you? Let’s talk about it.
The small packets of flavored oatmeal contain a lot of sugar, and even though they may be marketed as healthy-they’re not.
But what about unsweetened oatmeal?
Here are three things you might not know about unsweetened oatmeal:
1. Certain studies show a significant improvement in blood sugar and cholesterol. However, the control in one of these studies is white bread. The study also only showed an improvement in blood sugar right after the meal.
Part of the study referring to cholesterol was only on consuming beta-glucan, which is an isolated compound in oatmeal. In a different study, the participants all had diabetes, and they didn’t see a change in their blood glucose levels.
2. Oats contain a type of gluten called avenin. This protein has been known to increase cytokines.
3. Oat products have often been treated with glyphosate. The World Health Organization classifies glyphosate as a carcinogen.
It may be beneficial to skip breakfast altogether and give intermittent fasting a try. If you do consume breakfast, eggs would be a healthier choice than oatmeal.

I’ve eaten Quaker Oates every single day, even camping, or traveling, oatmeal has been part of my breakfast for decades. My grandmother who passed at 94 ate it every day since a child. In fact that is the meal which I eat in a day that makes me feel the best out of all meals that I eat in a day. I do not add any fats in the morning because I have noticed fats slowed my focus and concentracion down and made me not feel very well. I eat healthy fats after morning but I use them in small amounts because that is how my body feels best and my digestion is so much better, before I felt promblems with digestion, it was irritated easily. I have not found a meal more filling and better for my health than oats that I eat every day in the morning(eating breakfast is so important because if you skip breakfast your blood sugar levels will drop and you will feel it in change of mood, I think it is even very bad for health to skip breakfast). We're eating rolled oats(not instant) every morning..30-40 grams of rolled oats ..add 10-15 grams of oat bran, add nuts, banana, unsweetened cacao powder(optional)do not pour too much boiled water... just enough to cover the rolled oats and oat bran..not too liquid to avoid glucose. The key point is avoid boiling the rolled oats. Actually above 65°c the starch starts "to leak" making it more digestible, hence a quicker and higher glycemic load. The insulinemic response being mainly driven by the glucose, no peak of sugar =no peak of insulin. In the literature, the GI of large oats flakes is given for around 50 but is more than 60 for thin flakes. Boiled for 8 minutes it can reach more than 70. Take note that the flakes(rolled oats) are already pre cooked, it is not like eating raw oats. Overnight rolled oats during summer. We buy organic rolled oats here in France. 14 hour Intermittent fasting is enough for us but we never skip breakfast. Hope Dr. Berg will make a video on the effect of eating eggs/dairy products on prostate health.

Thank you so much. I cannot agree with you on this one Dr. Berg. I do 16:8 intermittent fasting, and I break my fast at 12 noon with overnight oats. I use Quaker old Fashioned Oats, and add sliced apples, walnuts, cinnamon, and will occasionally add a tablespoon of honey. I have been dropping weight, and my gut feels healthier than ever. For my second meal of the day, I eat a meat and some vegetables. I feel healthier this way, and it works for me. My grandmother is 95 yrs old, healthy, and has eaten oatmeal her whole life. My grandfather just recently died from natural causes at 96 yrs old, and he also ate oatmeal his whole life. Both of my grandparents were mostly oatmeal, meat, veggie, and fruit eaters my whole life. My grandmother would also bake the occasional cake or pie, and they would eat that too. Neither of them have ever had any major health issues. My grandparents are African American and have lived in California all of their adult lives, after moving there from Texas in the 1950's. I said all of this to say, Oatmeal has proven longevity of life benefits in my family. I think there are more pros than cons with oatmeal.

I don't really know much about oats or oatmeal, but I like non processed foods and this fit the bill. I just went for my annual doctor's visit and my doctor (of many years) asked WHAT I had been doing/eating - my cholesterol was lower than it ever had been, perfectly normal rather than on the 'edge or border' of being high. I replied "lentils and Irish oats." She said "keep doing it." So, I will ;~) I think Dr. Berg had good things to say about the kind of oats/oatmeal to eat as he enlightened me, letting me know both sides of eating oatmeal daily.

Or does your condition just mean your blood sugars can drop for no reason or certain foods trigger it? One time I was in a boxing gym (for amateurs more fun than serious) and this new trainer came in and had us all doing HILT and wed never experienced it before and expected a gentle spar and I felt incredibly sick and I knew I was going to collapse and something was seriously wrong with me but before I could shout "I'm going to pass out" several minutes had passed and I was on the floor , they were forcing sugary snacks and drinks into me and I felt myself feeling better the more sugar I had

I measured my blood sugar with my grandpas little reader (he’s diabetic) after my old breakfast: 3 eggs, 2 turkey bacon, home fries and toast. I waited 2 hours after the meal and my blood sugar was 6.9 The next day I had 1/2 cup of steel cut oats with cinnamon, vanilla, mixed berries , flax , and hemp seeds. I then waited 2 hours and did my reading : 5.1. Enough said. Im sticking with my oatmeal.
@Chris-ui9ij
@Chris-ui9ij Год назад
If you would've avoided the home fries and toast your blood sugar would've mostly likely be very similar to the oatmeal reading.
@travisdemaria9027
@travisdemaria9027 Год назад
@@Chris-ui9ij I agree. But that’s my point . When people say oatmeal is bad because it’s a carb that’s unfair. It can’t be lumped in with potatoes, bread and pasta. Oatmeal (especially steel cut) breaks down much slower in the body especially when combined with fats like flax/hemp seeds, and fiber from the berries. Very little insulin spike. It can be a part of a very healthy diet.
@Chris-ui9ij
@Chris-ui9ij Год назад
@Travis DeMaria I 100% agree. Not all carbs are equal, and oatmeal can be beneficial. A lot of these foods aren't unhealthy, it's the process that they go through, which makes them unhealthy.

Comparing oats to fries and toast is a rubbish comparison... if you are trying to prove oats is good for you 😅. You could just eat the eggs and bacon but you don't want to.
@randomman6351
@randomman6351 9 месяцев назад
You know why? Because of the toast that was probably made with white bread and the home fries. Sure, that is more unhealthy than oatmeal. Better just cut those out of your breakfast

Sometimes you gotta know when to take a break from Dr Berg. I go in cycles, few weeks of watching then a few weeks of a break. The anxiety loop is insane on this channel. Love it, but yea. Fit, healthy and all the things, but I still gotta pace this out.

Nobody gets extremely healthy from following this garbage. Even high level athletes don't inspect their food to this degree. It's how these channels survive, create constant fear to bait clicks. I do intense cardio, burn massive calories, eat meat & enjoy a lot of junk. Drink a lot of water, coffee. Resting heart rate is 44bpm, run marathons. Never once did I buy into this junk. The simple principles of eating meat, veggies, carbs & a ton of water will do it. Not examining the effect of an ingredient in a food that when studied showed a rat was able to fart rainbows.

My mother is 91 and still lives independently in a condo, not a senior setting. She has eaten quick cook oatmeal with blueberries, ground flax seed and sugar every single morning for at least 30 years. And lived independently in a 2 story house with the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs until a few months ago. She was/is also what I would call a near-vegan for the last 40 years, meaning she ate meat and dairy 3-4 times a month, max. 5 years or so ago she became almost vegan, with a few ice cream cheats a month.

I eat organic steel cut oats once per week. Topped with lots of warmed blueberries, unsweetened coconut, flax, chia, pecans, almond slices, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, sometimes hemp seeds or walnuts, and a few chocolate chips. A banana on the side. Delicious! Every Saturday morning...off to make it!

Sheri Ballard- I'm with you. I buy organic rolled and steel cut oats. I sometimes soak them overnight in organic unsweetened plain yogurt. I don't eat a lot of oats, but I like to have them in my cupboard. I realize there are a many Keto foods out there, which I will explore. I tend not to eat breakfast every day and would be too depressed if I had to give up everything I was raised on in New England. A few favorites come in a healthy form and go far to improve my overall mood, especially in winter. ~ Diane

I eat overnight oats (kirkland rolled oats) and egg bites with bacon for breakfast around the afternoon time at work and then eat dinner (high protein chicken, red meat, etc.) around 6-7pm. I like the oats as i eat less food throughout the day and more importantly less sugars. Thoughts and opinions?

Sometimes even some notable Doctors like Dr. Berg don't know what are they talking about . Oatmeal is a time tested healthy food , it got even the world known nutritionist Dr. Lee approval , this means a lot interms of how oatmeal is healthy . Now i even started to question his other videos validity , because this oatmeal gig is a red flag for me . Personal experience with oatmeal , well years ago my doctor prescribed me a drug to lower my bad cholesterol , but my colleague advised me to eat oatmeal for breakfast every morning , after 2 months my cholesterol became normal , i didn't not even eat steel cut or rolled oat , but i just ate quick oat and it did wonder . So people, please question any thing what some of these doctors lecturing .

During 2020 one of my dogs (7y/o German Shepherd) became very ill. His blood tests and xrays and ECG's showed he may not make it. Very high liver values, kidney values, cholesterol. He had sepsis on the blood. Enlarged spleen. Enlarged heart. Difficulty breathing. Probably more that I don't remember. Wasn't a nice time, I dearly love that dog. Best pal. Anyway, other than all the medication he was put on, part of his recovery was changing our dogs diets to home made focused on health. A base of oats, eggs, squash. Adding either lean beef or chicken. To cut a long story short, he had a recovery fairly quickly. 3 meals a day, all the same food. 3 years later eating the same diet, nearly 10, his periodic blood tests and other tests come up healthy in normal ranges. The vet even said his heart wasn't enlarged the last time he was x-rayed a few months ago. There is nothing anyone can say to me that would make me want to change that diet for them, the proof of health is right there for me. My dogs eat a lot of oats...
