I am US/Thai citizen and would like to share with you some knowledge. I have a few houses here and speak fluent in many Thai dialects here as well because I am a private shooting instructor at Ransit333 range. Hope we can chat and good luck Paul. I hope you check out Krabi, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, and visit Doi Ithanon during New Years.....get there early;) Winter up northern Thailand is as severe as Georgia and full of organic strawberries....i should know because i lived right across from Cumberland Mall..in Cobb cty.

I just lived 5months myself in Bkk & i'm now back in belgium and i absolutely miss Thailand so much. Just Asia in general makes me such a different person. Absolutely nothing to prove there to others, such lovely souls, amazing malls, traveling cheap all around asia to dream destinations. Oh man i'm definitely considering moving back there in summer of 2026 fulltime. My lease here is ending ayway. I have 0 ambition here in Belgium. time for another chapter soon

Why live in Belgium when you can live in usa. Pay our high taxes on everything you buy. Hell you owe taxes when you dont buy anything. We need slaves to pay taxes. Come on in. We imported many from Latin America and our plan worked.

Great stuff.... I am semi-retired approaching 50 in a few months. I still have my home in Scottsdale, Arizona and renting it away as an AirBNB, still have my car, and whatever. I don't want to return back, but need to since my family is still there. No kids, not married. I've been staying in Asia since before New Years Eve. It's been awesome. I would love to meet up. I'm currently in Chiang Mai and will head to Bangkok for an extended period in a month.

That was a very interesting conversation filled with spot on observations. Don't worry about not having gone to other places first. Sometimes you just know and you need to trust your gut. It is refreshing to see someone with a balanced outlook. You still have a lot of different phases and experiences awaiting you over the coming years and I am sure you will rise to the occasion. In my experience it is not so much how well you plan but how resilient you are. I moved here pre-internet so for me it looks like there is a lot more opportunity these days and a lot more information, maybe too much information. Sometimes you can overthink, over plan, over research and end up paralyzed from too much choice. Think of Thailand as a catalyst which can make the good things in your life better or the bad things worse. So it really helps if you know yourself before you come here, to help you understand what Thailand might be accentuating.

Hi Paul, you have brought up some really important points such as structuring your day and self-control. I think there is one more thing that is important: in Thailand people are like a mirror, if you smile they smile at you, if you are in a bad mood they look away and ignore you. Greeting from Phra Khanong, Michi PS: I walk every evening in this phantastic Benjarisi Park, i love it.

Best advice I heard from a retired expat RU-vidr in SE Asia was this: "Take a few test drives first." What they implied was go visit for 2, 3, 4 weeks/months (whatever you can afford) and do this a few times....not just once....and really try to get a feel of what normal daily life is like instead of being a tourist. That's the best way to see if the new location is a good fit for you.

Great true talk ! I am happy to say I have made it in life and lived the American dream, so it will be nice to finally retire in less than 5 years. I did have to do all the things you talk about to grow my career, no way I could have made my American dream happen if I stayed at the same job all my life here in the states. It is a MAJOR rat race here and making 6 figures in certain career paths is difficult, but luckily my specialized tech position has always been in demand and there was always another company that would grab me up if I was looking and always got better pay and benefits. Loved your CNBC video too !! A+

Great video and points. I was in BKK for 2months during March-May this year (6weeks Thailand and a couple weeks in Malaysia/Indonesia) . As much as I loved BKK I am not entirely sure it is for me , I'm generally an outdoor person and enjoy running/walking and the heat was seriously getting to me (albeit it was the hottest time of the year). Also the convenience, while being great does induce the availability of 24/7 access to partying lifestyle, which is not conducive of a life if you are trying to build and grow, self discipline and avoiding some people/areas completely is required. In the long run I'm not sure Bkk is the right spot for me, although I feel like I need more time too, but I know the 9-5 isn't sustainable to go back to either..

Hey paul, interesting perspective. I just got back from a month in bangkok and I have lived in Taipei, Taiwan for a year before (pre-covid). I definitely agree it's a good idea to test the waters first on where you want to live. I actually disliked Bangkok's foreigners more than in Taiwan. A lot more professional foreigners live in Taiwan and operate with a less pervert kind of mindset, and the locals are nice ( I speak some mandarin). Going to visit Vietnam and the Philippines on business soon as well, hopefully gain a better perspective.

I put myself in enough situations last trip that I believe I would love to move there soon. The heat is probably the only thing that bothers me, but I'll be okay. Your last piece of advice is probably the best, if you cannot maintain self control in Thailand you are in trouble. Too much of anything is never a good idea.
@Coolerzebra

The heat will play more and more significant role in the future, the latest Summer in Bangkok the temperature can reach 40 degrees easily (you felt like 45) people from western world can’t adapt themselves to this brutal heat, so anyone who is considering moving here, please add it into account. ❤

good video, agree with everything you say, it is very important for people to know what they are getting into before they sell everything in North America, test the waters first, try 3-6 months in SE Asia first, travel around, make sure it is what you want before you literally "pull the plug" in your home country. Good advise in this video. I am older than you, but I agree with the corporate ladder BS, I have always worked for myself, never worked for anybody, it worked out very well for me, I retired at age 49, and doubled my net worth since then, careful financial planning when you are younger pays huge dividends in your older years, I am 64 and can't spend all my money in my life at $8,000 a month if I live to age 95.

I agree with many of your tenants and you have to truly qualify and smartly validate the move algebraically. Despite loving and continuing to visit Thailand,, I entertained thought of moving there, but realized it would be filled with unknowns aside being a mere visitor. One important factor is I have no reason to escape the so-called "matrix." I'm fine in the 🇺🇸 with the usual accepted qualms. Utopia doesn't exist. I get many make the move for economic survival, sunnier days or the non existent opportunity back home of having an arrangement/relationship. That's all good, but I don't need those remedies. I'm OK with America and already dummied down to FL from LA. I am looking forward to next year visit to Thailand and scooter deeper into Issan and mountain hikes. I also prefer to vacay in the Americas and some Europe which is less daunting from here. .......... I also travel 3x a year to Costa Rica which is only a three hour flight, and considering building a dwelling there on land that is rightfully mine as I have in the past- and sold for a nice profit. Back then, Marlon Brando was my neighbor to my build. ........ In closing this thought, the ex-pat community in Thailand is low brow, complain amongst themselves but not totally free in expressing what they really think. Thailand does suppress thought with risk of prosecution, and that alone is a huge factor it's not a consideration for me. The media here freely speaks of Joe Biden's dementia, and I can roam Costa Rica or say F-U to her current leader without repercussions. Hopefully Thailand matures from this nonsense and makes it more livable and not self reporting every 90 days. I'll be back as a tourist.

Hello Paul. I actually just came across your video on CNBC. Good you are enjoying your stay in Thailand. I actually lived in Bangkok for about three years. The last two years in Asoke. I’m familiar with Thonglor and have been there a few times. I left Thailand a little over a year ago. I’m curious about a couple of things. You have a decent size apartment in Thonglor. The article says you are paying $544 USD per month rent. Which is just under $ 20000 baht per month. That rent is very inexpensive for Bangkok. Especially that area. How did you manage that lol? Your gym membership of $93 usd per month is very high. My memberships at gyms in Bangkok averaged $40 per .month. And that was a western style chain of gyms popular in Thailand.

I sold everything in 2020 when my country lost its collective mind so I could leave. I wouldn’t advise anyone sell everything in order to move to a country, I just did it cuz I was fleeing. Moving to Thailand for me isn’t as scary because having a place to live, even if I don’t like it, isn’t as worrisome as living out of a suitcase with no physical address.

There will be a better chance of meeting a good woman than a woman in a red zone. Because they meet many men. It is a benefit in return for you using yourself but you spending money. People may find it difficult to be honest with them. If you fall in love or believe their words Then you become disappointed or bankrupt. If you're sad, who do you blame? If it's not then blame ourselves?

Thailand is a great country to visit but it's not an ideal place to live for long.

The title/cover page is pure Clickbait BS. He posts a title like that and then one minute into the video he says that moving to Thailand was one of the best decisions he has ever made and then goes on to give silly speculative hypotheticals of some people that probably should not move to Thailand. For example, you should not sell all your belongings and move to Thailand if you are only taking a quick break from your country. Seems like the video was made just for the sake of making a video. Definitely a thumbs down.
