For me personally, I own very little black in my wardrobe. Where most people have black items, I tend to have camel/beige! In terms of owning one useful bag that goes with most everything, I have a red! I am looking at a Lady Dior Pouch in cherry for my go to evening bag =). But the idea is the same, I think red (though not necessarily a neutral) is a basic elegant colour (think red nails, red lips, red pumps...), maybe its an honorary neutral haha

I took a shopping trip 8 hours south (driving) from where I am, and it's the same deal here in Canada, too. With ALL stores -- from fast fashion to luxury to hardware stores. The supply chain around the world is so messed up right now and we're being told to buy early for the holiday season because there is limited stock and shipping is taking forever. I finished my Christmas shopping today, thankfully.

My 'basic' colour is Tan as it goes with everything I wear (I tend towards black jeans and neutral jumpers with boots) and tan stands out beautifully. I also find a good burgundy is also a very versatile colour. Loved the video! 🧡

To be honest, I don’t think it’s any crazier to buy a jumbo for over 5k ( even though I’m not a fan) than it is to buy a constant stream of bags 1-2k . How can you possibly wear them all? They just became very expensive ornaments for 99% of the time. Buy your dream bag and wear the hell out of it. Maybe I feel this way because I’ve had cancer twice and know tomorrow is not guaranteed, and I also have a grandson I would rather take on adventures and save for. Certainly there is going to be less choice of everything going forwards( trying to replace my washing machine atm, and the choices are not great for me) and lots of us are going to feel the pinch with things like utility prices doubling . I help to run a low spend group on Facebook and we’ve had a massive influx of mew members since the warnings about utility price increases. Many people are genuinely having sleepless nights worrying about the coming winter.

Saint laurent has quickly became my new favorite brand. Reasonable prices for luxury bags. That, and Bvlgari serpenti bags have been on my radar. Actually really like that versace la madusa top handle bag with the chunky chain as well.

Yes to getting classics in black! Timeless classics that never go out of style, can wear with everything, and don’t really get as dirty like white or beige does. A black bag can be dressed up or down. You’ll have no regrets. Though that being said I was definitely eyeing up that purple Chanel 19 at 14:16 😍 would be a lust piece

I don't care for the look of the YSL. I think the logo is too large on their handbags. . Chanel is elegant and not so flashy! Black is awesome! I love Chanel shoes and belts too! I prefer "real" jewelry vs fashion.

Stuck at home, only going out to walk, there’s no opportunity to get dressed up, unless I take myself out for solitary afternoon tea. In an earlier video you gave a heads up for Aspinal- which along with Mulberry is as high as my budget goes. If you fancy colours - that’s what dupes are for.

All I can say is I’m so happy I bought my YSL College after your recommendation when I did. It goes with absolutely everything while still feeling classic. With supply and demand issues I can’t imagine what these bags will cost in a year or so.

I just bought a beautiful BLACK BAG for about $600, so not quite "designer" a small US firm that is very well made but also fabulous designs and great everyday type bag. (unlike one that will make you a target for being robbed.. yikes and yes I do have some of those)...now with our economy in this shape and needing to help a few relatives just for now, I was "I love this light camel brown". But my point was to use this as an everyday bag...and that camel was almost summer/fall, and would show a lot with everyday use. SO black. My heart was "oh the light color!" but, I had to keep in mind the use of this bag, and how it would wear.

I think it depends. If you’re paying that much you should buy what you love. I also wear a lot of black or white so I buy colorful bags.

I have a Chanel CF in black, a few seasonal coco handles, a WOC & I just bought a beige clair CF after I heard rumblings of yet another price increase ( it was $10k in Canada ). I think black & beige are both beautiful neutral colours to have if you want to curate to a minimal collection.

I feel like color depends on your wardrobe. I’m big into blue and I find my blue bags go with almost everything. Also Chanel is impossible to get in black. Buy a color you love and know will work for you is what I say. Also maybe darker color so it will not show wear as quick.

oh forgot to say THANK YOU for the trip around London....I've never ever been there without SO MANY PEOPLE! My younger daughter especially love London, and I wish we could both fly there now and see the shops without the crowds..

Good point but I think the color factor should be considered across the range of bags according to function. Ie. If you have your everyday bag already (whatever the brand) in black, then consider getting another color. If not, then you may end up with an overinflated collection with so many black bags.

I got an iridescent real leather "classic flap" inspired bag from Accessorize 2 years ago. Fast forward to now, Chanel releases the official one. I got mine for 75 EUR back then. I feel like I won the "game"!

I was in Holt Renfrew, Toronto Canada. I have saved up enough to buy the Chanel classic flap medium. The price is obscene and one day I’m thinking yes I have been saving for years and saved enough, and I deserve to buy it. and the next day I’m thinking that’s really expensive I could spend it on something more practical or upgrade my house. So in the new collection the store didn’t have one. I got a phone call from another store saying it was available but unfortunately I was busy and could not go get it and they would not hold it. So I have to wait who knows how long until another one comes in. It is my understanding that each store gets only one or two. When I did go to the Chanel store and this beautiful iridescent plum bag caught my eye the sales associate said no, if this is your first bag you really should get the black. So here I am waiting for the black and my goal is to have one fall/winter bag and then one beautiful spring summer bag. Money doesn’t buy you happiness but having nice clothes and accessories and dressing well makes me 😊.

My Dior small in lambskin is my favorite, happy I got it in black but I haven’t used frequently but when I do wear it I can’t stop touching it! I wish I’d bought the black Chanel jumbo in black lambskin 4 years ago I couldn’t imagine these current insane prices. Thanks for the realistic video.

No one is mentioning the elephant in the room - Brexit!! As bad as the economy is as a result of Covid, all these luxury goods are coming from the EU and the import duties are now penal. I have just bought a Chanel bag from France and the duties amount to about 22% on top. The effect on prices here for French or Italian goods is horrendous (and has to be passed on by the retailers!)

The rich Chanel hand cream is nice, and so is the portable brush. (I cannot wear their cc creams either, due to the shades being too pink. My skin is light, but I'm olive). I think it would be a good time for Chanel to revamp their makeup line. People might spend a bit of money on cosmetic luxury items when they cannot justify the money for a bag or ready to wear. There’s been shortages everywhere even in the automotive industry now they are selling cars 7 to 10,000 and above the MSRP. And it’s not just Covid it’s also the chip situation that is happening over in China so that’s putting everything out a halt. But I do agree going for black is the way to go if you’re going to buy any bags Maje is a really great band for bags as well

I was at two Chanel stores in Paris this weekend and there was limited stock. There was nothing in stock I was looking for. They said it was due to Paris Fashion Week, a lot got bought out. I ended up getting the LV on the go bag.

When someone says “Chanel” to me I instantly think of the black classic flap. In my very small collection all my Chanel bags are black. I wish I can afford to buy them in the seasonal colours too but because they’re so expensive that when I build up some savings to purchase a Chanel I always go back to classic black😄 x

You're right about getting the Chanel in black is not as easy as it used to be; I can't even get on a list for the lambskin. I have a new black caviar and a patent in black, and those are fast becoming the icons (all mediums, my favorite style). I would rather have 5 Chanel bags than any other brand, including Hermes.

I'm one of those aliens who doesn't like black bags! I only have one toy loulou and it's my least used bag! My basic colour is dark brown or taupe. And I love colourful bags! Great finds in the second hand market!

I was in Las Vegas in Sept ( a couple weeks before the fall launch) I usually do a lot of shopping there because the selection is generally far better than at home. The Chanel in the Wynn hotel usually has a vast selection. I kid you not, there were MAYBE 10 bags in store - if that. Shelves completely empty. 1 belt in the entire store. I felt so bad for the SA’s they literally had nothing to sell and I was ready to buy but went home empty handed. Shocking ! The SA told me it was due to the off and on lockdowns in Italy and France where bags are made 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Hi Sophie! I work for a luxury brand based in NYC... production around the world has taken a big hit recently. It appears that all of the covid delays have finally mounted together to create a delay in deliveries. Particularly RTW. There is also a cashmere shortage globally which has created a panic situation. Often we have to wait additional weeks for raw materials to ship from the mill. The brand I work for personally is shipping Fall21 about 1.5 months later than previous years. I would check back at the end of October, as at least that is when I know for certain most of our inventory will FINALLY ship! Love to you, I always enjoy your videos x

Goyard's Saigon bag is beautiful and unique, though there are only a few places in the States where you can shop Goyard. However, they stopped hand-painting the monogram around 2006.

I heard a rumor that the UK isn’t getting the iridescent bags because of problems with the leather batches. Even Chanel isn’t immune to supply chain problems it would seem.

I think you are totally right about the economy. I’m currently home on 10% due to the semiconductor crisis and what I hear from friends in other industries there is lack of raw material everywhere. I’m worried we are getting up to a new industrial crisis. I work with quality improvement and I hope that we have learned by now that what we need in times like this is to make sure we do as much as we can with what we got I.e. improvement activities and not big investment and less focus on quality...but you never know...happy as long as I have a job...

Totally agree with you. You always should be able to wear the bag with lots of your clothes. I love iridescent blue as a colour but would never ever buy a handbag in this colour.

You know, I really wanted a Chanel bag, probably Le boy, but I'm really starting to be drawn to the Dior Lady. I think it upsets me that the Chanel bags don't have feet. My Coach bags do, and if I'm going to pay THOUSANDS of dollars for a bag, I think that unless the size and shape prohibit it, luxury bags should have feet.

Chanel classic flap small down here is Aus is $10,270. I really don’t know if it’s worth it. I also don’t know if it is as easy to sell as some make it out to be. I think it’s a luxury commodity that is not needed and has been blow out of proportion because of consumer sentiment and desperation.

I'm saving right now. I remain convinced that we are going to be entering a period of economic uncertainty globally. We can already see this happening in China with the potential collapse of their giant property developers, gas prices increasing etc...

I have heard that Chanel had a massive recall for the iridescent bags because the color was flaking off the leather. Maybe you can find out more about that.

I think it's probably the effect of Covid-19, from that people have lost their jobs to the production line and supply, a lot of people had to stop working and that will be a hiccup for all factory's. Hi, I in bbc news I saw that even supermarkets have shortages because transport issues. 100 k truck drivers are needed supposedly.

I agree. Im debating between a LV speedy in monogram or an alma bb in epi in like a fuschia or some type of bright color. In the US we are experiencing a supply chain interruption as well so i plan to finish shopping in November and just hide everything. I was planning on selling some more bags but i think i will wait now.

The UK also got rid of the VAT/tax free shopping at airports - which I think will further drive down luxury sales from tourists! I’m not sure if the VAT situation is the same for in store shopping like Harrods or Bicester Village where a lot of tourists shopped and could claim back the VAT in store.

Nice Balmain sweatshirt!! I have a hard rule about no iridescent Chanel (excluding SLGs). I will always get bored of it and want just a basic colour so I’m not wearing all black or all white to serve the iridescent accessory. Goyard Artois tote is my go-to. It is light, super practical and really holds up! (And it’s in black 🙂)

It's not just the economy but also a shortage of workers worldwide, as well as a breakdown in the supply chain. In the US we have worker shortages, truck shortages, and the docks in California are three weeks behind. I have to assume that the shortage of supplies, workers, and transportation is global. It would be nice if the loss of business for these luxury retailers would result in price decreases, but I doubt it.

It's everywhere Sophie low supplies even in my local Tescos supermarket, empty shelves (stock spread out) been like it for months. I was shocked to see an old Chanel bag in your video selling in Harrods (the blue with silver trim bag). A great informative video. Thank you for sharing. 😍

Counterpoint to always buying black first: If you only want one bag from each brand, you'll have an all black collection. As versatile as black is, having only 5 bags and they're all black isn't suitable for most. I think it's best to consider the colors you wear most in your closet and pick a color that the style looks best in while complementing your wardrobe. I currently have 2 black bags in my collection, and I feel like that's enough for me. I'm about to buy the Kraft Pouch, which will be my first purchase from Bottega, and my 4th designer bag. It fills a gap in my wardrobe for a casual bag to wear with light colors. Black takes away from a pastel aesthetic. It's better to focus on completing your style than always getting black first

Hi Sophie, I live in California a few hours away from Los Angleles. I go shopping there once a month or so and have not come across any shortages. We have a highend Nordstrom that has a Chanel and Valentino store within the Nordstrom which had a lot of newer items. Also, the Nordstrom carried fall items from all of the big designers (Max Mara, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Versace, etc.). I wonder if Harrod's is being really conservative in their buying so they aren't left with tons of product.

Thank you for your video. I never heard of Goyard. I go to look online and now in 2022 the Saigon mini is over $3k preloved. They are making it hard for me to get one luxury bag!! I owned a lot of Coach and sold most of them as I wasn't using due to the lockdown. I wanted to get one LV or Gucci or any other luxury designer bag. The prices have skyrocketed everywhere
