Why you should Play Shifter | Playable Race | Eberron | Dnd 5e 

I have, played a shifter Longtooth wolf totem barbarian named ravage

Never played one but DM'd for a few. Specifically a Pathinder Shifter class, and one Ragebred (wereboar) Skinwalker.

Yup. 2nd character I played - Monster Slayer Ranger, Curse of the Lycan from Grim Hollow, Wild Hunter Shifter.

In a wacky one shot I played Dante Exotic, the Barbarian with 30 Constitution and a belt of giant strength. Inspired by Joe Exotic was the dumbest shifter likely in existence.

Not yet. But I’ve always wanted to play an old lady crocodile shifter barbarian, who either has a crocodile spirit animal she talks to no one else can see, or is just crazy. She’s just out here bitin’ people and lookin’ for a cool way to die

werebarnacle.... not one I've thought of before.

The werebarnacle is a curse traded on the black market and is heavily regulated. All werebarnacles must be registered with the government and information campaigns are ongoing to dispute the folklore and myth that surround it. In case you don't get it, there's something about the barnacle that is the largest, proportionally, in the animal kingdom. That curse'd hit illegal trade for the same reason Rhino Horn does.

@@xancarter1927 And this is also the reason for the other two wereforms that are most often accomplied by the barnacle curse (ecept for the barnacle purists who use different species of barnacles as wereforms): (mandarin) ducks and echidnas. Thankfully werebarnacles can be identified by the driftwood (or other hard substrate, I have heard that those of noble blood sometimes use gemstones)) that is attached by cement glands somewhere on their heads. This happens when the werecypris settles down and metamorphs. That is also the most dangerous part of their lifecycle because they feel the overwhelming urge to anchor themselfs on a suitable substrate. Many werebarnacles who have attached themselfes on the sea shore drown when the sun settles or starve if they can breath underwater. As with true barnacles choosing the right spot is most important. There are some reports of werebarnacles gluing themself on ships, unlucky turtles and, in at least one documented case, a werecrab.

@@Rookzer0 It's a little niche but your wereshark kinda opened my mind to the different possibility's (so thanks for that!), a wereworg is terrifying mostly cuz of the hairless face and lipless mouths, it was buckets of fun!

Warforged shifters make sense to me... I wouldn't correct them.

Unless there's some obscure Eberron lore or some detail about your own table that acts as a loophole wouldn't him being a cleric act as de facto evidence of him having a soul since you need one of those to worship a god.

@Jan Schievink as is written in the OG source book, you just need to have a very strong, very passionate belief or connection to something. You could be a nature cleric without worshipping a God. You can just really *really* like mountains to the point you think they are a source of power, and tah dah! They are. Is a God doing that? Maybe, but no God has presented itself. Is it nature? Seems likely, but why aren't you a druid then? Is it you? Could be, but doesn't that just make you a wizard with a mountain fetish? The Eberron setting creates, and then doesn't answer these questions, leaving it for you to decide or ponder. It's what I like about it. I just took it to the extreme with the soul question for warforged. But I should note that in the official Eberron setting, warforged do explicitly have souls. This is just something I tweaked for my table to give my players something to ponder on.

@@khamulthewack4732 I forgot you could direct cleric faith towards non deities similar to the paladin oath can't remember if that's an Eberron thing or if that's always been an option and I just end up at pantheon focus tables more often than not.

@Jan Schievink DnD has been kind of flip floppy on that since its inception. I actually don't know if 5e Eberron works the same way, I didn't read the book thoroughly. I'm just going off what I remember from 3.5. That said, Forgotten Realms doesn't really work like that I don't think, nor do most settings with explicit deities walking around. In that sense, Eberron was somewhat unique.

@@xancarter1927 Yes. Yes it is. Black puddings are one of my favorite things to throw at players as a DM cuz they're one of the few slimes who can damage equipment.

It sounds like you're just not listening to what your DM is comfortable with allowing. And while YOU might think your idea is interesting and creative your DM doesn't seem to agree.

Armored animals are a lot of fun I think that would be a great shifter
