I noticed an option in the steam version thay says "Chess clock" and I hope this becomes standard. Give each player 5 seconds per turn, and then any extra time comes from a finite time pool (or maybe it's dependant on total game time so you're not both screwed in the endgame). This means you can think a lot in neutral, but then you should hurry up on your combos a little bit so your opponent isn't bored waiting you to find what's optimal.

It's worth mentioning that the cowboy's gun throw is more useful than just a meme option. If your opponent is close enough and you think they're going to successfully parry your bullet, throwing your gun takes long enough that they'll lose their block before they get hit. There's a few moves like that in the game, and it's always extremely satisfying correctly reading a block with them.

When out of ammo, Gun toss can also be a good last ditch combo extender, as his only consistently adjustable move. (Lightning blade only has adjustability the first time you use it in sequence.) It always knocks in with set knockback making tp extensions easy. Was an essential part of my first lab zero to death.

Getting a hit stun on the enemy while they’re in the corner allows for a free frame where you can throw his gun upwards, and follow up with a slice; while you combo him in the corner the gun will continue to bounce giving you more damage, keeping them low in the corner and extending your combo. Positioning has to be right but I pulled this off the other day. Favorite thing about this game is being able to find small things like that.

As someone who’s always been massively intimidated by fighting games and has never felt like she could excel at them (partly from low desire to learn, but also partly from physical limitations that make it hard to remember complex patterns in fast environments- which makes y.o.m.i. sound INCREDIBLY accessible to me), I really appreciate how gracious this video is to the community of fighting-genre-shy people. No mockery, no “lol get gud,” just a rational acceptance of the learning curve that isn’t a flaw of the genre but simply a fact. Thank you, StaticTorch, for being a quality human being. ✌️

@@thegames4565 I have, though it’s been some time. I agree completely with what you’re saying- there’s no way to be competent at something without actually *trying* and learning to be competent first! I guess for me, even with trying to take the time to learn combos, I get very directionally challenged the quicker I have to process information. So I might know all my combos, but the better and more reactive my opponent, the more likely I am to fumble the controls and just devolve into useless button mashing because of mental panic lol. It’s something I’ve tried to train myself out of, especially because I love rhythm games and I experience the same problem there, but it’s not easy. Hence why y.o.m.i. seems a lot more approachable to me!

@chaotickreg7024 Год назад
@@1stoftheFatuiHarbingers You need to learn fighting game mechanics. Learn about frame data and frame advantage. The game pauses the exact first frame that somebody is active and can take a turn. Burst is a little attack you can do while being combo'd, but it can be used against you if they know you will do it so experiment with it. Whiff cancels let you change your attack but not to block. Blocking immediately makes you active as soon as you block, which makes for huge parries and punishes. Hitboxes can be turned on for replays in the settings. DI stands for Directional Influence and lets you steer your movement in the air, like in smash bros.
@1stoftheFatuiHarbingers

@@chaotickreg7024 Oh I already know about fighting games, and I play a few. Not competitively. I'm talking about the layout of this game. It's less a fighting game, more a strategy game, ala chess. The menu is incredibly intimidating on first load up, and for me personally, I cannot stand menus like that. Kerbal Space Program was another game I wanted to like but the menu felt like you were actually trying to chop each finger off with a toaster foot. I'm fairly certain I just suck ass at anything that requires critical thinking. Never have been so I'll probably never end up enjoying this game anyways honestly. Looks cool though.

@@1stoftheFatuiHarbingers Movement, normals, specials, supers, and etc. are all separated into sections. It doesn't make sense at first, that's why you have to push all the buttons a few times. 1. I'm trying to get into fight games via Skullgirls and… yeah the first minutes describe well the experience xd I get the mechanics, I completed most of the story modes and all but I can't even complete one wave of survival of arcade mode or do any combos because of the sheer speed to make them… maybe that's why this game called my attention (and because it looks cool + remembers me to the stickman videos I saw as a kid) 2. 11:31 a revolver, a katana and a whip, this guy is like everything I thought was cool at some point of my life(?

Skullgirls is amazing, honestly my favorite fighting game _ever,_ but as a novice myself it can be grueling to learn lol. It's undoubtedly rewarding to learn/play and I wish you the best of luck learning it ^^ 🙏♥

If you would like to do battle by throwing your gun at your opponent, then proceed with playing YOMI Hustle. If not, then you are sad, and I have no desire to speak with you further.

Theres this point in one of my last matches where I was fighting a wizard and I'd get some good damage in, then just be on the defensive or get combo'd for like 5 minutes- and then there was the fire read. I had hitboxes on, timed the jump perfectly- parried a water blast and domed them with a dropkick that sailed gracefully past the end of the firewalls hitbox. While not the most impressive play it really set the tone for what you can do in it for me

I recommend Fantasy Strike instead. It is a real time fighting game with most of the execution removed. I'd much rather do that than a turn-based one, personally.

I get the point of it being turned based but it still sucks there isn’t active movement in the game with how amazing the mods and animations look like. No other fighting games look as good or entertaining as yomi does to me but it’s gameplay just isn’t it, I wish there was both game modes for both groups or people.

I tried this game this morning and I had the complete opposite experience. There's essentially no tutorial or teaching about game mechanics whatsoever, the UI for even choosing a multiplayer match is confusing, I experienced some sort of networking problem with the server and ended up mostly waiting through a 45min match in which I had absolutely no idea what was happening and got matched with someone who clearly did. Finally, at the end of the match, I discovered that the replay system does not even work (Latest Windows, ~6mo top of the line Surface Pro) and so I had no way to reflect on what had happened or how I could improve. I don't think I'd be willing to try another title from Ivy Sly after this experience, personally.

Once you said cowboy gun throw I was like: hell yeah that’s my damn main right there. Because I always find something that counters something else so SATISFYING, but this is a game like toribash, hard but easy to execute moves once gotten use to the technical controls.

after watching this video i decied to double check yomi price i thought it was way more, your first rounds of playing nothing makes sesnce but after 2 or 3 you slowly learn and can start giving anyone a run for their money (besides robot mains fuckers) this video will most likely get a ton of players to pick up the game and show them it isn't that hard to hustle great job.

It's so accessible I forsee YOMI-likes to vary things up with things like different visuals (e.g. Anime sprites), game modes like shorter health and tag-ins (e.g. MvC or DBFZ style), or even branching to other genres like a Fighter RPG with this foresight system.

So basically when you want to play those flashy pivot animations from way back when but don't want all the mechanical garbage you'd think playing such a thing would regular, that's pretty cool actually, I already like Smash Bros so I'm usually pretty open to trying out fighting games that mix up the formula in ways that "dumb" it down but still allow for all the cool fighting game stuff to occur regardless, not that it hasn't stopped me from playing traditional fighting games and flailing around mashing buttons and such, so thank you for bringing this to my attention!
