The balm was cool when my beard was smaller, but using a butter at this stage of my journey works much better. Good work Scuba👊🏽! I need to try that Royal Beardsmen!
@BeardTube then you havent tried Antica Barbieria Colla Beard Balm, its same cosistency as a conditioner for the hair and without any wax! you be amazed!
I’ve tried both and I switched over 8 months ago. I’ve been using Live Bearded since then and I love their products. Great stuff and very reasonable prices.
El humidor man! My favorite. Also, royal beardsmen is great all around. Thanks for your videos dude. I referred to you and Dan C when I first started getting beard care products. I've been considering starting my own channel because I have some ideas that I want to share with the bearded world. Keep it going dude. You're awesome.
I like both. I use butter daily, just a little for a softer beard, or sometimes a little more butter at night as almost a leave in conditioner, but for styling I do like just a tad bit of a strong hold balm, but I rarely use that daily. If I had to choose, beard butter is a miracle worker, and it's important because it will keep your beard nourished, butters and balms are so different, it's a weird thing to compare. Great video as always.
Great informational video for some of the newer guys. I have to agree with you about Royal Beardsmen. I've been using their products (including the beard butter) for about a year now, and also use the Dragon Spice at least 4 times a week. My girl loves the smell of it, and actually all the ladies at work say I smell like cookies. I'm always getting compliments on the smell of it. Again, great video and stay bearded 👍
Thanks for another great review Scoobs! I recently switched to butter. I love them. Big difference, but I got so many good balms Ive bought from reviews you guys have done. I hope they stay good. Just in case times get hard.
Hey Scuba i just discovered you and started following you...i love your videos bro...i have been following Dan c bearded the trusted teacher. Ghank you for all you do brotha...THE BEARDED LIFE
I just switched from balm to butter after watching some of your videos on the subject and I started co-washing and my beard looks and feels better, I still use balm on occasion but only because I need to use up what is left of my balm .
Just ordered a tub of their butter, looking forward to trying it. I've been using a well known whip for some time; won't mention their name here, but you probably know which company I'm alluding to. It's been working very well for me, but I'm always open to trying new products.
Beard Balm is a must once you pass a certain Length for sure...Also.,, I took your advice and just ordered a Aberlite Max Beard Brush...👍. Cant wait to try it out...
2 comments: I finally figured out what the funky smell is when using some products. In your DIY beard butter video you mentioned that Shea butter can have a play doh type smell, and while that’s not the exact smell, I now know what it is. The second thing, I have big issues with my face drying out under my beard, especially as it gets longer and in winter. I like how I can use the dropper and literally put the oil directly on my face. Do you find it’s more difficult to get moisture to the face when using butters?
Not only am I going to like this video. I'm going to LOVE this video. I may not have had the mom buying me ALL the JNCO jean but I was lucky enough to convince her to buy me a few to fit in. They need to bring that shit back for nostalgia. Hell I'll buy some now and show up to my job with them!
They were sold out in most scents! I love cologne so i ordered the Sire scent. People says the scent doesn’t last which is exactly what i want because i dont want it to clash with my fragrances I wear. Good looking out with the SCUBA discount too.
If you have a wavy/curly beard and you want it more sculpted but natural looking, use a heat protectant, blow dryer, and a round brush then butter after. Along with what Scuba said with a good trim.
Hey! I love that Microtech!!! Much respect for coughing up the dough for one of those. My friends all think I'm crazy for spending $350 for mine. Nice to see others that actually own one!
I think the Shea Moisture beard line is underrated. I think their products work well. Awesome smell. I like using it. I am going to look into beard butter tho.
for whipped butter you can use a stand mixer or a hand whisk (hand will take a lot longer of course) make the butter, put in fridge until its just beginning to set but still soft, chuck into stand mixer and whisk until it is the consistency of whisked egg whites or until you get peaks. then put into jars either scoop & scrape or put into a piping/icing bag and use that to transfer to jars
When you use beard butter, do you ever use oil with it? Like I normally oil up my damp beard after a shower, and once I've brushed my beard, I will use some balm (the balm I have uses shea butter) to shape it a bit. Just curious.
Having a grey beard, I switched from balms to butters last year. I was noticing that the wax leaves a residue and over time it will give my beard a brassy/ dull look. Since switching I've also noticed that my beard has less drag when combing and brushing.
yoo! i ordered the dragon spice from them because you didn't stop taking about so i got it myself and let me tell you it smells fkn amazing! ima order some more.
I made my own hand lotion with bees wax in it abd I swear the wax in it seemed to stop the skins ability to moisturize. Nice to hear someone else thinks that as well.
I still have a lot of balms left, but I just bought cork town from Detroit and literally used it once and told my gf that after most of my balm is used up, I’m switching to beard butter. It just feels so much better and has a better consistency to me.
Any fears about wax not allowing hydration are way overblown. For one, you shouldn't be relying on your balm to hydrate. You should use an oil or butter to hydrate first, then use balm for hold. It remains breathable, too - we're talking about beeswax and other natural plant waxes, not silicone. If it's suffocating your beard, you're using way too much. If anything, though, it would probably keep moisture in as much as it would keep moisture out. So once again, if you're properly conditioning with oil, it shouldn't be harmful in any way. I see the same concern expressed with shoe polish, and it's the same principle: you apply conditioner and cream polish to the shoe first for hydrating the leather, then you apply wax polish for shine. The only way you can go wrong is by only using wax polish. Even still, the problem is the lack of conditioner, not the use of wax. But yes, if you only want to use one product, beard butter seems like the way to go. But there should be absolutely no harm from using waxy beard balm, provided that you also use beard oil or some other conditioner.
You gotta try Tailored Beard they have a hemp whipped butter! His oils are thicker due to black castor oil. His scents are not the typical scents. I’d love to see you review his products!
Just bought the Freshbeards freak beard butter and I'm loving it, finally ran out of Grave Before Shave bourbon (which lasted me like 4 months, killer deal).
Alex Grimes I have that too, thankfully it’d almost gone though. I use that for bedtime now. It’s way too much of an orange smell. Like seriously I ain’t tryna smell like that everyday lol, I bought that shit back in March 2019
I have been making my own butter for 3 years. Never use any wax. Only shea, mangoo butter with jojoba and grape seed oils. I whip it and use that to shave my head. U just need small blender to whip. And whip once it cools down. Love the videos sir!
I need beard wax to control my curly beard, but I first apply beard oil and style it with a blowdryer and a brush and then apply just a tiny bit of beard wax to give it hold
Cowashing is such a great way to keep the beard clean while washing the previous days products out. In the past I washed my beard with shampoo. Never again. With conditioner my face never itches and I no longer see crap on my black shirts ‘ dandruff’ My current beard is nearing 6 months and I have found 3 split ends in a half year!
Shampoo is awful for your skin, I’m not even a fan of other beard centered soaps. Check out African Black Soap, I exclusively use it from head to toe, a true 3-in-1 soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Make sure to find a natural source for soap, Walmart and Target sell processed crap.
So trimming. I'm growing a beard and I have been using beard balm with tea tree oils by Every Man Jack. I still have tons of wild whiskers which frustrates me. Should I be trimming them or trying something else to calm them down? An every day occurrence. Thanks. Enjoy your videos. I enjoy the comedic moments
Always love the videos Scuba! Have you ever tried Everyman Jack Beard Butter? I love it and realized Balm was bad for me and it broke my beard off. Have never looked back since I found everyman jack beard butter. It's all natural and at Walmart for super cheap. Thanks if you get around to responding.
My wife is mad cuz I started seen ur videos and I got kinda addicted to get this products to grow my beard better cuz in the past I never used nada and it def looked so dry so thanks again and I love that bossman jelly thanks to you
Hands down, best I've seen your beard look. I've preferred balms with a more 'nourishing' feel rather than waxy for a while so maybe this is the next step for me
Based off my culinary experience, I can assume all you need to do is get air into the solid state of the butter. Try putting it onto a mixer straight from the refrigerator (the colder the better, even can freeze the mixing bowl) and whip it on medium high speed. I honestly am not experienced on making butters yet but that's how I would try it
Hey Scuba, are you going to do a full review on Beard Octane products? I know Dan C has done a lot of reviews on those products but for guys that dont, or haven't, watched his videos and only watch yours, it might be beneficial for them to check it out. Just sayin.
I use argon oil and beard balm, I have no split ends at all and I need to wait a couple of more months to start trimming, 8 or 9 inches to start trimming for me anyway won't the beard balm keep the oil in the hairs like seal it in? Great video
I use both. I use balm one day and then wash the beard and use the butter the next 2 days then back to balm. The balm I used is mixed with tea tree oil so it stays hydrated.
@BeardTube try to see if you can rewiev Antica Barbieria Colla Beard Balm and you will see how insane that one is, its also without any wax in it..its a leave in balm and the consistency is same as conditioner, its insanely good! if you dont have it where you live do you have any PO BOX?
Much respect my fellow American, the Shea Butter is AWESOME, I bought a bucket for like 15 bucks , my wife said what’s this and I said some skin stuff 😂 well my baby of 32 years fell in love again, so it’s a win win ? Well in a way? When Moma Is happy I’m happy, but now I need to order some of stuff again 😂✌️
I got some beard quencher by Billy Jealousy when I took my woman to Ulta and it is game changing. I hate putting anything oiley or anything period on my face and it is amazing.
A few days ago I run out of Beard butter so I used Garlic butter instead , not only did it do the trick no one came near me . If you want to stay safe during Covid wear Garlic butter !
The main thing is not everything works for all beards. A lot of info out there but it comes down to your genetics and what works best with your beard and skin.
Started watching your beard page a lot lately but was wondering if you use beard butter would there be any point in still using beard oil or just stick to the beard butter I’ve been using the sugar beard stuff but they are always out of stock and the company I was thinking of going with do beard butter but I’m new to all this stuff could you give me some slim advice ?
You ever try or review "the beard struggle" products? Like the Viking scents and some are named after pagan gods? Been curious about how well their products are
I will say I used beard balm everyday as a go to product and I did notice that my beard wasnt very well hydrated. Now I just use a sh*t ton of beard oil and it's not bad but I've been really wanting to get some beard butter and try it out. And no doubt the Scotch Porter beard conditioner is the sh*t... very great product. Only question I have Scuba is whats the story behind the shirt. Pants??
Wow went to buy some product and your code didn’t work and then I tried to check out anyway and the checkout didn’t work? Thanks for your tips , heading over to Amazon for some butter and shampoo
Any recommendations for spot growth? When I grow my beard out I always experience trouble with connecting my beard to my mustache. Any recommendations?...
I dont go out that often so I use butter when I dont, and balm when I do. Also use oil 5 minutes or more before I use the others. I personally use badassbeards brand.
Hi dude. First and for most thanks for your videos, they help a lot,and your advice are precious, at least in my experience. I was wondering if you know any good beard oil/butter/balm european company, since here (in Europe) it is very hard to get product from the USA,and if you know a company named "duckbutter". Thanks in advance.
So for whipped butter once all your butter and oils are melted place in the fridge until half way hardened and then whip with a mixing device do not over whip hope that helps
