Honestly, Netflix/Amazon's track record for animation isn’t tooooo bad. I'd much rather a show be on those two than Max, who throws their shows to the dirt. They deserve way more than how they're treated!
Something I love about the show is how it deconstructs the whole ‘survival of the fittest’ mentality. In apocalyptic movies and shows people say it is disadvantageous to care for people who don’t seemingly contribute in any way. But Ursula never stops caring for Sam even when her own survival is at stake and Sam begs her to leave him to die. It’s only when there’s no possible point of return and deep pain that she leaves him at the tree. But she leaves Sam on his own terms, with him dying in comfort and accepting of his own death. Whereas Kris sees the people in cryosleep as a liability and abandons people who oppose her since that will get in the way of her survival. In any other media she’d probably be the badass survivor anti hero type. But this story isn’t from her point of view, so we get to see her actions for how they are..Callous and devoid of humanity. In the end, by working together with nature and each other the Demeter is able to thrive as a community and live sustainably. Meanwhile, Kris is left begging for help from strangers, knowing that if the roles were reversed, she would only look out for herself.
One of my favorite aspects of the series is the people that made it, the original short is there sure- but the amount of amazing animators in such a small team brings it so much.
This is the first I've herad of Scavenger's Reign, but I'm looking forward to watching it on May 31st!!! Amazing video as always, and I truly hope it gets more seasons in the future as it deserves!
Been on my backlog since it came out but finally got around. The show is so genuinely human. The themes of egotism vs altruism and life and death. How choices can impact us and others. The beautiful but horrific ecosystem not antagonistic but just existing with humans thrown into the mix. This show was so beautiful in its writing and presentation that I immediately started a second watch with my fiancé. Will be watching it again in Netflix Edit: I forgot to mention the use of music and sound. The soundtrack is amazing and conveys every situation perfectly. But the show knows when to use silence and the ambient sound of the world around the survivors.
I'm glad Netflix's attitude of willy nilly throwing money around on projects manages to pick up this masterpiece of a series. HBO max and Warner bros can go suck it.
Given Arcane and Blue Eye Samurai, maybe they wanted more adult animation in their catalogue? idk, I don't really care because them picking it up will help the show 😭😭
Great insight, as usual. Yet, I need to disagree a bit on the influences part. It is true Otomo and Miyazaki draw a lot of influence from Moebius and other Franco-Belgian comic authors, every frame of this series SCREAMS French comic. Animation-side, more than Kon, Miyazaki and Otomo, I see a huge influence from the late René Laloux, it almost looks like it was made by him. A season two of Scavengers Reign would be awesome if they keep this qualitty level of writing and produciton. I want to commend you on your editing skills. Every new video you upload gets better and better.
I'm going to make sure I watch this when it drops on netflix. I've heard good things from a few different people so I'm looking forward to checking it out
I want to support this but it is not available in my country. I mean, yeah I can still watch it through other means, but it will not help the show's numbers. Hoping for the best.
That's where Netflix comes in! Whilst it still might be a limited release next week to the US, UK, Ireland, Australia and some European countries, if it gets picked up for a season 2, they may give it a bigger release like they do their other animated shows 😊😊
Just wanted to say that I love your videos!!!! Your comments about adult animation remembered me of the Netflix show ''Love, Death & Robots'', hope to see more adult animated series in the future
It starts interesting, but this series was a huge disppointment for me. Instead of people lost and trying to survive on a alien world, mysterious, like in the beginning it soon transforms into something much more mundane and common, with a mindless drone villain.
Goddamn what a great vid! Thank you for reminding me of the show again; I binged it in one sitting when I found out about it but yeah I do reckon it's time to watch it again :D
Can u please make some type-moon content it’s the strongest franchise in anime with their base abilities giving them immeasurable speed. & my power scaling subs & playlists r all the proof we need, my other subs etc also prove it has the best written characters in anime.(especially in the girl aspect) Like generic anime channel’s shirou vid, it’s billion$ budget & ufotable even come together to give us peak animation of any year they drop or period. Its also the lotr of anime with lore on lore & galore.
Unfortunately I've only watched one show surrounding type-moon and it was Today's Menu for the Emiya Family. I'll be honest, tried getting into it but couldn't connect with the franchise, sorry!
@@linesinmotion that’s cool it’s not for everyone but I beg u at least give my type-moon video essay playlist a look it might change ur mind. It’s already done so for a lot of people
i’m both excited and apprehensive about netflix picking up scavenger reign. on one hand, it will reach a larger audience. On the other hand, Netflix has a pretty bad track record of picking gems for a few seasons, and then canceling them because they didn’t meet their weird metrics and didn’t give them the proper support.
There was a scence towards the end on the series , that I see every time I i close my eyes and Imagine , for as long as I am aware of . I like this shiw . It was beautiful.
Beautiful video!! You explained so well the beauty of this amazing series, without doubt one of my favorites from last year! ❤️ I didn't even new max cancelled it, so please Netflix I trust in you, I NEED a second season 🙏🙏✨✨
From what I heard of the show the animation is something I'm looking for. However the theme of parasite is something that really puts me off. I'm not sure I will be able to watch the show >.< Nice video none the way ! This show still deserve to be talk about 👍
That's fair enough, I know horror sci-fi stuff like this isn't for everyone (makes my sister feel ill, even the tiniest things) but thank you for watching the video nonetheless!! Appreciate it!
Pantheon mentioned!!! Also an adult animated horror series (Wytches)?? Sign me up! I've been wishing for one for a long time now ever since the concept trailer for Playground.
Lol there were one too many episodes I kind of shook my head in frustration in some of the humans' decisions in traversing a hostile alien planet, but for the overall quality of the entire series I wanna rewatch this as many times as I can so Netflix will give us more. I wanna see where this team will go when given more opportunities.
Great video. Im glad you enjoyed this series. I did too. I absolutely loved the scavengers short when I first watched it years ago. Im glad to see this story got made into a full series. It sucks that this show might not get a season 2 but Im not surprised. Ive barely saw any marketing for the show before it came out and Ive only seen a handful of creators talk about the series since its debut. I hate when great shows like this get screwed over by the companies that own them. Speaking of shows that got screwed over, you should make a video talking about Pantheon. Ive seen almost nobody talking about season 2 of that show. Unfortunately, I believe only Australia and New Zealnd can get the show legally but, as an anime fan, Im sure you know there are other means of watching shows (aaaaargh). I loved season 1. Season 2 of Pantheon felt kinda rushed and had some elements I didn't't like (the main romance was weird) but otherwise I really liked it. Overall, I consider Pantheon to be one of my favorite shows ever. Ive watched it 3 times all the way through, so far, and I might have another watch through soon.
Max is SHOCKING at marketing their animation. Really not surprised though, given that it's tax reduction over there on all their animated content it feels like.... Hopefully Netflix makes for a much better home for them! Also, another user just talked about Pantheon, too! I don't think I'll make a video on the show just because I wasn't as in love with it compared to Reign, and I feel that show is truly dead now (unfortunately!). There's no hope for it really. But again, was given no marketing nor promotion and has and even more limited release than Reign - which is crazy. The creators behind the show deserve more!
@@linesinmotion Oh, ok. Yeah, I totally agree these shows didn't deserve the treatment they got. I have heard that Pantheon is based on a book. I might check that out. Honestly, I think a lot of the problems with the second season would have been fixed if they had been given three seasons instead of two. There was a weird time skip in the middle of season 2. It would have worked better if the time skip would have been between seasons. Then the story could have been more fleshed out. Its fine if your not in love with Pantheon. Everyone has their own tastes. Personally, I liked Pantheon more than Scavengers: Reign but thats just my personal preference. Scavangers: Reign is undoubtedly good. The art style and backgrounds in particle are absolutely breathtaking. Personally, I just connected to the story and characters of Pantheon more than that of Reign. I really liked the robot in Reign, though. I was worried her human friend was going to dismantle her without realizing she was becoming alive. Im glad the robot got a happier ending by the conclusion of season 1. Its kinda just my luck that one of my favorite shows got cancelled and was given a rushed ending. Another show I really liked, Inside job, also got cut too early. One of my favorite stories ever, a webcomic called Strong Female Protagonist, ended abruptly and is probably never coming back since the creators moved on to bigger and more profitable projects. This is one of the reasons fan fiction exists, I guess.
I was watching it when it came out but SPOLIER i was so genuenly upset when the robot died and then a sweet dude we just met got fucking crushed by a plant i had to take a long break and couldnt get back to watching the show since. sobs this show is really-really good yall just dont be an emotional pussy like me
We were eating last year!!! Pokémon Concierge, Blue Eye Samurai, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Carol & the End of the World and then this. There were SO many great shows, and there's still more to come in 2024 (Lara Croft, Arcane etc). Love being an animation fan so much!
@@linesinmotion Hype, I've only seen Scott from those listed. Shout out to some "average" shows: 2nd Best Hospital in the Galaxy, Frankelda's Book of Spooks, Gremlins Animated & the recently released 2023 movie The Imaginary (Studio Ponoc). & Pantheon season 2 like wow, what show is left after all that? Gonna check out Carol and Concierge, as well as beginning Arcane, so thanks for reminding me. As a Velma S2 fan it seems I have a very low bar for entertainment they can shatter. :P
This might be one of your videos that I don't finish because just the few lines at the beginning and the goregous animation have more than sold me on it! I'll be sure to finish the video after watching the show!
youre such a great content creator. why do you have to include anything political in your twitter page? it ruins it a little for me, but keep up the amazing videos!!
By politics, you mean why do I share posts that help share awareness of the travesties going on in the world? Unfortunately, if you don't do politics, it doesn't matter, because politics is going to do you.
@@linesinmotion hmm.. not sure i agree on that. i think standing with one side is a bit ignorant and if i were in youre position i would stay completely neutral about it. me and most of people (i suppose) enjoy your content because its extremely well done, and can maybe be an escape for some people. but some people may see you as uneducated with the topic you're trying to raise awareness to. and that might turn them off a little.
Wow, a fantastic show recommendation I haven't even heard of?? Too bad, this show doesn't seem to be available in my region (Southeast Asia) currently🥲
@@linesinmotion Yeah, I really hope so🙏 It's kind of unfortunate that Max isn't available in this region. We do have a regional equivalent to Max in the form of HBO GO, but the list are still limited. A lot of shows and movies from Max just didn't make it here due to licensing and customary preference of each individual country in the region. You know, social conservatism is still very prevalent here.
