@wheelslifts851
@wheelslifts851 5 лет назад
I've got a major correction to add.. there is no such thing as multitasking. Your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. Sometimes it may seem like you are multitasking, but what you are really doing is switching your focus between two different things, and thus your efficiency and accuracy is less than when you do one thing to completion, and then another. For example, if you were handed 2 sheets of paper, one has a word search, the other a crossword puzzle. The most efficient, and for most people the most logical way of completing both of them, is to do one of them to completion and then moving on to the other. But if you were to switch after every word, it would take a few seconds for your brain to get into gear and focus on the new task, and it would take much longer to complete them. That is basically what multitasking is. It's a trick our brain plays on us. Like how people believe that the earth doesnt spin, because we dont feel any rotation, but it isnt the case. Edit: after watching further in, you guys talk about this so disregard my correction, but I'm going to leave the comment incase someone needs a different explanation of this.

Just because I don’t think the video made it clear enough, DON’T ever use a cell phone while driving, even down that monotonous road, it dulls reaction time, distracts more than music or even talking to a passenger (your passengers can see what’s going on and can shut up or warn if necessary). I’m English and here it is illegal to use a phone at all when driving, even just having it in your hand. I can’t speak for other countries on the legality but just as a sensible person, phones and driving do not mix, even ‘hands free’ as it’s not just about looking away from the road it is also about divided attention. Thanks PSA over.

i actually always thought this was a weird quirk of mine cause other people don't seem to do it (i guess their brains are just better at multitasking). When i'm doing something on the computer (gaming, drawing) while listening to music or youtube, if I suddenly run into something I have to think harder for then I end up turning down or even completely pausing the audio stimulus without even noticing the fact I did that. I can realize an hour later like "wait, why is the music not playing?" because I paused it to focus on something. lmao. Also the reason why I don't like listening to music in the car unless theres no traffic and i'm not making many turns

Why do all videos that talk about how brains work always ignore to even at all mention neuro diversity, its actually really good to know that there are exceptions. For this specific video for example its very different if you have ADD or ADHD. I think it would increase the educational quality to mention that brains do not all work the same, when the area covered is one where things can be very different. Like for me, a person with ADD, complex tasks will still leave me as bored as a monotonous highway and I need more stimulus to keep my focus. So multitasking is actually better most of the time. Also with part of 'your brain turning down the volume' on background noice, my brain can not do this properly because of ADD. You don't have to bring up examples or explain these points, but it would be nice to leave room for it excisting by at least at some point saying 'for most people it works this way', so someone on their own can figure out and look into it if they they think 'ah ok most people, so some people are not like that'. I enjoy your videos, wouldn't bother otherwise.

But how can one determine what task is complicated... I love to multitask and often i can focus on 3 or more tasks at the same time... (for hours until my brain gets tired/ i start loosing focus...) i often watch youtube or listen to a audiobooks while working or playing a game on my phone... I'm completely focused on both of my actions... Both the youtube video and everything that was said and the game/project with no mistakes/... While there are also things which are more subconscious like timing when water boil/something I'm cooking is ready.... (yeah that's not a complicated task but you get the point my estimate of time is nearly perfect without using a timer/...) And i often feel underwhelmed by such tasks and... (for that reason I've read *or more correctly to say* listen to more books and.... From what most people read in 10 life times), The question I've got is how can one determine what task can be considered complicated... Oh and BTW many neurologists agree that there are 4 active memory "slots" in our brains And in theory we should be able to focus on 4 or more actions... (that's chucking a whole different story... Basically tasks and... Can be combine into a autopilot "taking 1 active memory place") but different people's minds work differently.... After all different people do different tasks and differentt brains focus on different things Some tasks are so common/ automatic for us that over the years the brain learns to chunk them together and use them subconsciously.... So we don't even notice..... But for me for example... I'm always underwhelmed... i always focus on everything.... In my surrounding and..... (it can be really annoying to over think everything and....) maybe that's a defect my brain's got Maybe it's a good evolutionary step forward that allows me to multitasking, idk... But no one's got the same exact brain... We are different people and just like medicine and... Complex tasks should be adjusted On a per person basis.... (u know in the past decade or so, only the rich could've ordered a special DNA test to determined which drugs have the best effect with disease/.... -today adjusted prescriptions get more and more common and it's clear in the medical community that not all people are the same and different people need different treatments and different doses-and that's something that can easily be tested by DNA) people are not the same... And i think that's something you really miss and should point out....
@donotlike4anonymus594
@donotlike4anonymus594 5 лет назад
For cheddar idk if you've read my last comment i know it's a bit long but i make a pretty strong point Please consider addressing that in your next videos/.... Or at least don't forget that not all people are the same and not all people minds should be considered the same.... (u know many people thrive under pressure... Some people love it some hate it.... The fact that you need remember is that some of the world greatest arts and innovations and breakthroughs ... Were done under pressure.... ) i disagree with you about the idea of telling people not to challenge their brains when for some it can make a positive impact on their life.... (for others not but u get my point...) The brain and human body in general is something that is not yet 100% understandable... It's just too complicated.... Our DNA is so huge u know... And minds so unique and.... It's just not right.... and while you have good intentions of educating people... such statements can sometimes be very misleading ... Hopefully you're reading this... Maybe I'd also email this to be sure.... But it's important for people to understand.....
