there are a lot of builders on the gallery who don’t need this video but definitely need the sequel, “why your furnishing skills make the inside of your builds look like a prison”

I love how the title was "why your builds are UGLY" and not something inspiring like "how to build better homes". However excellent clickbait, its what peeked my ugly builder interest.

I recently watched a lilsimsie roofing tutorial, and after 9 years of playing the Sims 4, that roofing tutorial taught me, that if you select a roof piece, hold shift, and then drag on one of those little arrow to adjust overhang, it'll adjust only that particular side

I lowkey would purchase that "I'd much rather die" and sadly, this is not a joke. It's stuck in my head, and I've watched this video on different days just to hear it. I think it's turning into my shower concert opening tune.

Hilarious, yet helpful! Roofs are hard, but I'd rather do it myself than have auto roof. There are so many options to roofing and I feel accomplished when I manage to do it well. Using floorplans can be helpful, but you have to keep in mind that Sims 4 is not to scale, so you have to be ok with knowing you can't match it exactly.

Another tip when you are a beginner with building (like me): if you don't live in the middle of nowhere or in a huge city with only skyscrapers, try looking around your own real neighborhood. I was just looking out of the window one time and realized that one of the houses looks kind of weird but that I really want to build it in The Sims. And then I did another one, that was just begging to be built. And if you can't see at all the parts of the house? Use Google maps and that yellow man and take a look through the eyes of Google. (And use satellite map or whatever it is called, you can see the details of the garden and maybe also the roof)

Your voice is so cheery and light that even when /trying/ to roast us, I'm not offended. Also i thought im the only one who had (actually still having) a hard time roofing. I melted down for a day trying to roof a building i was already copying from a picture.

best advice I can give for exteriors is to look for real life references. Maybe browse through some historically listed houses near where you live and check the wiki pages for different architectural styles and terms. It becomes a lot easier once you can actually put words to the various bits and bobs that make a fancy house for you.

I'm a designer myself (though it's not an architect path, and more of a graphic designer one), I have more or less honed my aethetics sense. Personally I don't have any problems in build "a good looking" house, community lots or making the sims itself in the Sims game. I'm a daily player of Cities Skylines as well. But it's very soothing to look at videos like these, going back to basic is sometimes needed. I could get some inspirations on what to make next. Landscaping is also my kinds of PITA lol, it is just like how I feel about adding a more detailed shadows and highlights when it comes to drawing. Thank you.
