Research "Dividend Aristocrats" and select six to ten companies from that list. These firms have a history of paying dividends for 25+ years. Additionally, consider working with a financial advisor to establish a well-structured portfolio.

Right, a lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their emotions, no offense. These are very valuable rules for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $89k now to put in the market.

Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
@martingiavarini

Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $21k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

In my view, staying invested is not just a financial strategy; it's a philosophy that aligns with long-term wealth-building. Markets have their ups and downs, but history has shown that, over time, they tend to appreciate. By weathering the short-term fluctuations and remaining invested, one has the opportunity to benefit from the compounding effect, capitalize on market recoveries, and achieve financial growth. Staying invested requires patience, discipline, and a focus on the bigger picture - a strategy that, in the journey towards wealth, has proven to be consistently rewarding.

Honestly, I would probably recommend you to invest 90% of your money in an ETF that replicates the overall S&P 500 performance. By doing this, you are getting exposure to the top 500 stocks in the US, which is in itself very diversified. What I would definitely avoid doing while learning would be investing in stocks directly because when you see a downturn it can be very difficult to handle it. In fact, often i would see a stock decreasing 25% and then would get nervous and sell. Then it recovered and I felt I was too late. And I did this, for example during the 2008/9 crisis. I had 9000€ worth of Amazon Stocks. Each costed me 80$. I sold them for 68$ and stopped following the market for a long time. In 2021 those stocks reached 3200$ (then they did a stock split of 1:20 which is why nowadays the stocks cost 140$). If I was experienced when I started, this would have been avoided. Instead, I was dumb and reacted by Panic. Bought during peak times, sold at bottom and felt burnt for a long while. So, ETF is a safer option in the beginning. Because you will make mistakes, you will second guess yourself and it will be hard to understand to differenciate irrational panic from the picks that simply didn't work. Nowadays, I usually perform slightly above average, but those early days mistakes were quite costly.

I've come to realize that the key to amassing wealth lies in making sound investments. I purchased my first home at the age of 21 for $87,000 and sold it for $197,000. My second home, acquired for $170,000, was later sold for $320,000, and my third property, purchased at $300,000, fetched $589,000, with buyers covering all closing costs and expenses. Not reaching a million before retirement feels like an unfulfilled goal.!!

Another great video mate. Inspirational. Question for you; if you had an opportunity to get your portfolio to £100k instantly, would you do it, even if it took you beyond the £20k PA ISA threshold? I guess what I'm asking is, is there a way to estimate if getting as much cash in as early as possible would (potentially) generate a better/faster return than going over the £20k ISA amount? Hope that makes sense! Cheers!

Hey Joe, it’s a great question. Vanguard did a study comparing lump sum investing vs cost averaging and they concluded (historically speaking) you would achieve higher returns from the lump sum investment. The only caveat being, I’m unsure whether that logic still holds if you had say £100k available to lump sum and sacrificed the benefits of an ISA by putting it in a GIA instead.

@@MitchShoesmith yeh pay just as much attention in it as you do your other investments. The benefits in later life and inheritance planning are vast. What's better: Being "rich", but not being able to spend anything because you are old and not healthy - vs. Being "well off" but having a good time until you are old, and then still being able to live a decent live. So fully agree with your point to not spend crazy on big baller clothing, cars or food - but I think you should still treat yourself here and then while you are young.

Before even starting to think about investing, you need to have an income that allows you to invest a strong amount each month. The advice in this video is the kind of advice I thought was great at 18-20. But once I actually understood money and realised it's too slow and the return isn't even guaranteed, I looked at other vehicles for wealth creation and growth. Not bad advice, but very generic and the kind of stuff every other investment guru preaches without the experience to back it up. Unless you have 100k in an investment account, don't make a video about how to do something that you haven't achieved yourself. It's spreading advice that isn't tried and tested. If you want real investment advice, buy a good book. University of Birkshire Hathaway is a good start.
