Tip: Have the arms moving forward on the train tracks (# 11) is a good way to remember hand entry position.

Great advice and memorable mantras. I like the small corridor! I probably do all of these mistakes times ten. But working on them.

Another excellent vid demonstrating the biggest mistake I see: crossing the midline, thus creating a side-to-side vector. What wasted energy! This is critically important to correct!

This video is great. I'd never understood why the crossover was a big deal. I think I do this myself, my stroke is pretty bad.

I assume these are videos from athletes, guys are selling coaching for individuals. But they can end up providing instructions for the members. Not all of them have "go pro", though.

one drill that I do is called the hand tuck where when you recover you touch your side instead of letting your arm drift outward

Hi Brenton! Just wanted to say thank you so much for being such a brilient swimming teacher. I m still learning and I took some swimming lessons. As I m an adult learner I find your Fridays videos very helpful. So please keep up the good work, your hard work is much appreciated by many like me who wants to learn and improve their swimming experience.. Thank you.

I just saw myself in that video - the narrow corridor is what I'm always missing :) Thank you for the analysis!

Thanks Brenton, your video is so appropriate! I am trying to correct my leg movements that are I believe so Inappropriate! Unfortunately I do not feel my legs when I swim. I go on the basis that if I am much faster when I don’t use my legs then when I use them I must be doing something inappropriate with my legs. I guess this is a fare assumption. I will try to get a friend take a video of my swimming then I will know for sure. Thanks for that video clip as I believe that I am doing the same thing which mean that my arms pull are not appropriate either! Back to the pool! 😁😁😁

Love your training videos. I watch and listen very closely and have been mindful of my strokes. Is it beneficial to use the hips, swinging them from side to side with the strokes, starting from the hips and gliding on the side?

Well Done! Great detailed explanations. Key comment: If it still feels normal, no change has been made. Thank you.

Very helpful, even though I probably need to watch a couple of times.Like the split screen.

Could crossing (and poor reach extension) be caused by limited range of motion in the shoulders. Perhaps his non optimal alignment is caused by limited range of motion and flexibility. Is full correction even possible with-out flexibility training?
6 лет назад
I can sense his shoulders are really stiff as well. This might be the reason behind why his recovery is wide.

Brenton. We need to talk. I trained with and learned about coaching with Dan Atkins. I used to give Josh Amberger lifts to training when he was a teenager. I swam with Ashleigh Gentle a few weeks before she won that Canadian PTO. We should at least have a chat. I’ve got sone ideas about stuff we could do. Deano

great points -- but I strongly disagree on the head position that you like --- lead with the top of the head and look down --- Go Swim agrees as well --

@charmainef1298
@charmainef1298 6 лет назад
Just breath when you need air. When i swim freestyle i only breath when i really need air.
@MrJohanGuzman
@MrJohanGuzman 6 лет назад
Not a very good advice to wait until needing air if you are interested in doing anything farther than 25m. Functioning on hypoxia (low levels of oxygen reaching the tissues) must be progressively trained. At first, most swimmers breathe every two strokes, progressing later to every three strokes and finally five.
@Luke-si5qo
@Luke-si5qo 6 лет назад
Breathing slows down you time. When You have an urge to breath, do it. Holding your breath can cause hypoxia and can lead to death if unsupervised.

Thanks a lot Dear.. But the title is misleading. You have not answered the question you asked in the title.
@justdewit
@justdewit 6 лет назад
Actually he does address the title in the video. The legs are too wide and are flailing. You fix them by having a straight stroke. This was all addressed in the video.

if your legs are slowing you down your also probably rotating enough. It wasn't until a few months ago that I found out that's what my problem was.

Informative, though misleading.. Nothing much about legs in the video!
@bikerusl

Because the body position needs to change to get the legs into the right position, and the arms are making the body position wrong
