Filters must be proving to be great for cosmetic companies by motivating influencers to use large volumes of product without looking bad because of the filter.

I don’t get how girls can wear soooo muuuch foundation and then concealer, and then setting powder, and then bronzer, and then highlight. How do you expect that to look natural?! I’ve found that using liquid everything, blush, bronzer, highlight and using your fingers to apply it SPARINGLY is helpful in achieving a more natural look.

I agree! I do use mix some powder products in there like contour and blush, but generally speaking a liquid formula sticks to your skin better and looks more natural :)

I believe that the companies that send them products to try out encourage them to show that they put a large amount, to encourage more consumption of their products by the customers. Because the influencers use strong lighting, it seems as if the large amount of makeup is "natural". The truth is, in my opinion, it is unfair to the followers who believe in their innocence that this is the required amount, while they fell victim to an aggressive marketing system.

@@TheMeowizersadly o think some of the "influencers" know full well either that the product is subpar or that they are given the product to "sell" .. as they get money from their videos.. maybe I'm jaded but it's their fault too..

I only wear foundation for special ocassions. In a daily basis is either a bb cream or some concealer. I have acne prone skin and my skin doesn't tolerate wearing foundation daily. My day to day makeup is concealer, translucent powder for my t-zone and undereye, cream and powder blush, brow gel, mascara and a lip oil. Some times I even skip the concealer. Also, I've seen a few tiktoks from people with acne, doing natural makeup looks for people with problematic skin. Not to cover it, but to still feel pretty and show the flaws in our skin, how to let the skin breathe while wearing makeup, since a thick layer of makeup actually makes the acne worse. Most of the tutorials for acne prone skin are to conceal the redness, pimples, etc. It's been nice and refreshing seeing people appreciating their skin for what it is.

Yes I've always done the "no makeup" makeup look ,before it was fashionable . I just put a small amount of product on at a time and only use a light, dewy foundation and I like to apply concealer by dabbing it in with my fingers but of course that depends on the type of concealer product being applied. I've always preferred a more natural skin finish ,even on a night out because I just can't stand the feel and look of heavy makeup on my skin. Yes I need the colour correcting under my eyes too. I just use fake tan under my eyes for the orange , then a green colour corrector on the reddish bit on the inner part of my under eyes and then top with a good concealer

You're lovely Jenn! Your personality and your knowledge make my day each time I see new video. :) it was long due that someone speaks up on reality vs online images, always paired with professional lighting and in most cases filters too. Even if we do make up indoors, using artificial light in our bathroom or elsewhere the impression once we get outside, will be very different. Daylight is cruel. What looks spotless on camera or indoors, may look quite the opposite outside. I agree entirely with you - amount and application are the key for natural appearance of make up outdoors. Since very few of us have perfect skin, there are few tricks to mimic it without risking that your face looks like cake fest once you step outside. First is Lisa Eldridge method - thin layers and aimed application, when needed, from center of the face (T zone) outwards. Keep it light handed, thin and well blended. Try translucent, BB, CC, tinted serum like textures instead of foundation. Light coverage, never full one - for face, lips, eyes. No harsh lines, soft, buffed application of shadow, blusher, lip stain or gloss, no matte or full coverage anything. Always moisturize and, if needed, use primer that suits your skin's needs. Exfoliate if regularly, make up will look more natural, not patchy and will last longer. Opt for satiny, natural or dewy finish instead of flat matte one. Try to use your fingers for application of foundation like product, instead of blenders and blushes. With warmth of the fingers and thin layering, adding product gradually and blending it, massaging it into the skin - the results will be way more natural. If you have things to cover, do Lisa's pin point technique - tiny brush and concealer only where needed, not heavy foundation all over the face. It will look much better and more natural. Finally, use magnifying mirror for make up application - if your skin looks good enough in magnifying mirror, it'll look perfect in person. XOXO Stay well everyone!

Best decision ever, I feel so confident now, even if I have breakouts every month (thanks, period), I only apply a little bit of concealer and I feel more comfortable than when I used tonwear foundation. Yes! They use so much foundation they look like a prepped canvas and then have to add color back in to look like a living, breathing human 😵‍💫. I love playing with make up and different colors for blush and eye shadow but day to day I lean towards a natural finish to the skin, rarely contour but always a little blush because I love my high cheek bones. I also really hate that everyone seems to contour the same way. What’s the point, our faces are not shaped the same, we don’t all have the same bone structure to emphasize or work with 🤷🏼‍♀️. Rant over. Maybe

Even better is to use the method of foundation application you showed for the left side, THEN do concealer/corrector in the same way. You naturally have less to correct after a very light base layer and you will most likely use even less product. And also applying product in more natural light close to a window :)

So true, the amount of product in a lot of these tutorials is ridiculous. I tend to go for the more natural look but it's still def not the "no makeup" look in my case due to circumstances... The only foundation that matches my needs and stays on is on the heavier side (EL double wear) and in addition I'm absolutely lazy to clean brushes and beauty blenders. I would only apply a cream product with a tool if I cleaned it after every single use but ain't nobody got time for that, so I just slap the foundation and concealer on with my fingers, at least they're always clean 😂

Whatever happened to applying foundation with your fingers, btw? I basically stopped using foundation, after my teenaged acne subsided in the early '00s and have only recently developed an interest in using more than mascara, eyebrow pencil and lipgloss again. Lol. Talk about a natural look. Is there really an advantage to using a beauty blender or brush? I'm not crazy about the idea of them soaking up half the product and then becoming a breeding ground for bacteria. They just seem incredibly unhygienic to me. And yes...I see girls with very carefully done make up occasionally and it never looks 'natural' in daylight. It's a 'look' of course and to each their own. But it's incredibly hard to achieve an even, flawless look and still having it look like actual skin.

@@tabbieedwards4195 But if you do that every time or even just weekly, you would waste a heck of a lot of product. And you can't tell me, that people actually clean them regularly, anyway. No way. Or wash their hands, before they grab their blender and start using it. So there would have to be a really good reason to use them, rather than just your clean fingers. What is it? I'm genuinely curious. Back in the day, we would just apply foundation with our fingers and it worked perfectly well.
@Coochellati
@Coochellati 9 месяцев назад
I think it depends on the formula of the foundation. Some apply well with your fingers, but others just _need_ a beauty blender or brush. I love my beauty blender… I wet it a little bit and it blends the foundation into the skin very softly making it look natural! As for your concern with bacteria, that’s why washing your beauty blender/brushes is really important. You’ll have to replace your beauty blender every so often too depending on how often you use it! I’ve never had an issue with bacteria and beauty blenders/brushes. Just keep them clean!
@stylemejenn
@stylemejenn 9 месяцев назад
So I've been taught to sanitize my brushes for every client, but as for doing my own makeup I obviously don't do that... lol. But I like using a beauty blender or a brush because of the layers I use! For example my undereye color corrector - if I used my fingers to apply foundation on top of it, I'm afraid the color will smudge / come off / move around to different areas of my face where I don't need color correction. Same thing with blush - I find some products when I try using my fingers tend to push my foundation or concealer around and I end up with finger marks! My personal reason for preference towards beauty blender and brushes :) I should really clean them more often though hahahaha....

It looks so beautiful, fresh and natural...if that's what you did.🤔 Nevertheless, may I ask how do you decide how high blush should go? If I'm not mistaken, it's called "sun-kissed"/"drunk blush"...? For me, the problem is most of the influencers I see is small faced blonde girls. And again most of them have dry skin. But I am a brunette girl with light olive skin also I've got a complexion skin. When I want to do clean girl make up it looks so oily on me and my face look shallow bc it needs color. HOWEVER when I apply to my t-zone a mattfying powder and add some coloring it doesn't look like a clean girl or no make up make up look. What can I do, I really need some helpppppppp

Opting for more natural finishes in the setting powder is one way (like Satin for example)!

Search for Jenn's videos about olive skin! They were honestly life changing for me as a fair and cold olive person.

I look extra natural for work (loose mineral powder, blush, and eyebrows) and natural for parties (add corrector o liquid base under the powder) Mostly because I dont know how to contour, always seems I have dirt on the face 😅

The product might be too dark for your skin!! Key is to find one that is only slightly darker than your skin that doesn’t have any warmth in the color!

I have never understood the point of a beauty blender as it always seems like it soaks up most of whatever you’re putting on your face and it just looks gross after use. The very point of a sponge is to absurd liquid, so it’s taking product off your face.

I honestly think that's the whole point - it's to take some product off your face so your skin can absorb less of it, which creates the illusion of a more seamless blending lol.

Ah, the funky smell of a beauty blender 😂. I agree with you. I use gentle brushes easy to wash and my own fingers, sometimes a Q-tip. It must be the reason why makeup products last me forever.

I love how everyone in the comments took this video as a free-for-all to shit on people who wear full coverage makeup.

Full coverage looks GREAT!! It's just not a "minimal" makeup look as some of them claim to be 😅

I loved an intense full coverage makeup in my younger years and I disliked the "half-makeup" like wearing only mascara, orangey blush on unprep skin and some mauve lipgloss (that was the definition of natural back then and believe me, it didn't flatter anyone's beauty) I think the scope of this video is not being against full makeup per se rather the absurdity of calling a 12-layers full makeup "natural" 😅 and how these videos are often filtered by camera but not suitable for real life if your scope is looking as if you had nothing on.

The other day I realized I use concealer in way too many places, out of denial that I should be using foundation. I think?

Concealer is just a concentrated formula of foundation! So as long as you control the amount of concealer it will have the similar effects to your skin at the end of the day ☺️❤️
