"All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room", stated Pascal, and this is the issue we tackle today. Prayer is a challenge for our modern minds, and the idea of growing in prayer, allowing prayer to transform us, as well as be our life support in every struggle, suffering, and tough decision in life is even more difficult. Today we give a road map for prayer, one that can allow you to commit to, expand from, and stick with at all times.
🔴 🔴 In the extended edition of the episode we answer a listener's question on how to truly live sacrificial love as a friend. We also discuss how to get back into your prayer routine when life knocks you off and the infinite power of the Holy Spirit. Watch the entire 1h 36mins of episode 156 here - catholicgentlemanplus.com

This was such a blessing for me as a woman. I just got baptised last year at 37yrs old and so I have seasons of being focused and sometimes my prayer life is distracted. Thank you for these insights. I loved what Devin said about relationships and how if we focus on our greatest relationship, with God, all other relationships fall in place. Thank you.

When I came to the faith I struggled with prayer, I had no idea how to pray. I told our Lord I have no idea what I’m saying, I have no idea if I’m praying correctly, but I know that I want a relationship with you. I ask that you increase my faith and my love for you Jesus, help me to love and trust you more and grow in faith. But I didn’t say that everyday I didn’t pray every day either I thought it was weak for men to pray and ask for help. But I kept asking the Lord to help me love him and trust him more and grow in faith. Slowly within me not even realizing the Holy Spirit was working within me. I was praying more and more. Then all the sudden I’m saying a rosary every day I’m praying every night before bed before meals, then all the sudden I’m waking up at 6:00am and now dedicating an entire hr to our Lord 4 rosarys a day Reading scripture, reflecting on scripture, saying my normal daily prayers to my guardian angels of my wife and kids, to concentration to Mary and every day at work asking Mary and Jesus to help me do my work with love and offer my work to them… it has been one heck of a journey…I don’t want to sound prideful at all I’m sorry if I do I just want men to realize if you don’t know how to pray that’s ok just by you telling God you don’t know how to pray is you praying!! Prayer life is like lifting weights it takes him to get buff, just like prayer it takes time to get better at it. But you stay diligent don’t give up and ask God for help, And the saints for help one day you will look back like I am and be amazed how far you have come.. asking the Lord or Mary or any saint for help is not weakness that’s manly. Humility is a virtue knowing you can’t grow in holiness without the help of the Lord or his saints, is manly.. I’m not perfect I say bad prayers to this day I skip prayers at times too . But one thing I do know is I pray more now then I ever have. The only bad prayers are prayers not said. one thing that helped me tremendously was structured prayer I like to be up at 6am drink a cup of coffee and start my prayers in the morning. Fr. Chad ripperger has great talks on that. Praying for all you men on here. God bless!

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Prayer reorders the soul. Then it will unlock the spirit. That's why the battle is so difficult because evil knows when the God in us (spirit) is released. Game over. HALLELUJAH HALLELUJAH HALLELUJAH

What about us men who dont have wives but want to be married? What about us single guys? There’s hardly anything for us and everyone assumes that if we’re not engaged by our mid 20s, we’re called to the priesthood, when we want to get married! Im 26 and worried about my marriage prospects

Can we discuss our proper body posture for prayer I heard you pray on your knees and another prostrate on the floor but when our family prays the daily rosary we are often just sitting on the couch and I wonder if that matters.. and then the example that gives to our children. 😕 my husband is generally exhausted after work and falls asleep during the rosary and then littles are bugged by a sibling touching/ distracting each other. Wondering what you all do for family prayer time posture- sit kneel, etc. and is there a general expectation to kneel?

As a new Catholic, I find it very uncomfortable praying to dead saints and Mary because praying to the dead is a grave sin. Shouldn’t we be going straight to the source; our heavenly Father?

Hi @Acav1987, Thanks so much for the comment. It is questions like these that make me wish we were in person discussing this, but with that lack, allow me to try and clarify a couple of things. I see your questions in two parts; 1) praying to the saints, and 2) going directly to Our Heavenly Father, Christ Our Savior, and the Holy Spirit. Regarding the first point, in one sense they have died, however, in another sense they are more fully alive then we are because they are in direct communion with the Holy Trinity in heaven. As such, their prayers for us carry more weight and clarity when we request them. The Church has always encouraged this as the reality of our relationship between ourselves here on earth, part of the Church Militant, and the angels and saints in heaven, part of the Church Triumphant. Here are a couple of articles that goes into more depth regarding this subject. www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/praying-to-dead-folks, www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-bible-supports-praying-to-the-saints Regarding the second point, yes, we should go directly to the Holy Trinity, but just as directing prayers to any individual person of the Trinity does not lessen the devotion to the other 2 persons, neither does seeking prayers to our friends here on the earth or the saints in heaven lessen our love of God. God by his very nature is communal and an ever exchange of constant love, so we, created in the Image of God, reflect this more perfectly when we request prayers from others (friends here on earth or friends "up there" in heaven). You have my prayers! - John
