I am so thankful for my parents. Growing up with ADHD, Dyslexia, and anxiety was hard. I was so lucky to have parents who were EXTREMELY involved. They were my biggest advocates and did work themselves to help me. They never relied on other people. They demanded my schools did everything they could to help me.

Oh my gosh! I NEVER thought I would hear another rational human being speak my mind! "Let them fail." "It's ok to GET INVOLVED!" Thank you!

My parents think I'm "sensitive" in comparison to them but I'm tough as nails in other people's opinion. It's different for everyone. They grew up harder than I did, I grew up harder than others I know. We all have different levels of things we find difficult.

ADHD Mom sounds like she's desperately looking at what other people have/haven't done but can't embrace her own role and responsibilities. HERS. Not her role in finding more help. But HER role, how she and her husband interact with him, how they deal with his meltdowns, how they address him, talk to him, discipline him, encourage him...there seems to be a big disconnect there. No wonder he's acting out.

I'm a mom of toddlers. It's hard to tell the truth about our roles as mothers and fathers. We HAVE to tell the truth to help our babies. It seemed like she wasnt ready to tell the truth.

I’m a mom with ADHD, finally diagnosed as an adult in college, and I have two boys with ADHD. Owning up to your own shortcomings as a parent is hard. It’s so easy to hand the act of discipline to the school because your child is there 8+ hours a day, you have your own issues, and you probably have 3-4 hours a weekday to know your child and connect. The real issue is that school is raising our children and we are babysitting them until they go back on Monday. This pandemic was a wake up call to let us see what parenting really looks like. I am now homeschooling my children, ADHD and all. I finally know them, their hobbies, needs, wants. And we’re a family of six on a $56k/yr income.

Thank God I had good Christian mentors that helped me get thru bad times with just their presence at church and at my Christian school. Never underestimate the power of mentoring in a kids life. You have no idea what their home life is like. My parents put on good fronts with the Christian school and churches that we went to. My home life was complete chaos and I went thru the same thing that this poor girl went thru with a brother who violated me. I never told anyone until I was an adult.

Here's a survival strategy: You're kids aren't mini versions of yourself. A person with ADD is not a defective version of other people. If a different version of success is meaningful to the son....be there for that.

Your worth is not in what you accomplish is a half truth. Your worth to God and loved ones is not based on what you accomplish. However, if you never aspire to do or be anything then you are of no value to society. We need to get this understanding correct.
@deepdownderryl

You should have stopped at the God and loved ones part. You are not your failures and you are not your accomplishments.
@Smartguy561
@Smartguy561 3 года назад
@@deepdownderryl That's true, but have to create some value in society in order to have value in society. Loved someone, raised a family, invented something that helps mankind for the better something. It's important to understand the difference. Yes, we all have value to God, because we are his creation. But there are people who use this to make excuses for themselves. I have ADHD myself. Someone helped me to cope with it, but I had to take responsibility for my ADHD and learn to manage it. The guy who is an acholic once he's offered help must take responsibility for his issue to overcome it. God requires us to take responsibility for ourselves. What if Galileo had decided to give up on his work in astronomy? What if the inventors Like Tesla, Eddison, Ford, Carver and others had decided that there was no value in their accomplishments? Mankind would have never benefited from what they did. While our value as a human being does not come from our accomplishments, our value to society is directly related to it. Mankind always moves forward for the better when we accomplish great things.

@@Smartguy561 that was some wonderful wisdom, thanks for sharing. ;) Have a wonderful day. I also feel it's important for us as humans, to know/love their inner self... Really loves yourself. If we are in a peaceful place of love/understanding with our Man in the Glass... I think the world could be more honest/proud place to be. Great Blessings to you on your journey.

@@Smartguy561 listen bud, I agree with you that accomplishments are kinda neat and stuff but if those people didn't accomplish that we would probably not have electricity but if people had a healthier self worth and view of themselves and subsequently treated others better I'd take universal happiness over self driving cars, my guy
