My two cents, definitely not criticism! My wife and I have been watching you guys from your beginning, what we love most about you and your videos is you are Authentic! Genuine, real life people... That is the content we enjoy watching. One thing I notice with You-Tubers is that they tend to change when they become successful... so here are my two cents, just keep being yourself, keep that personality... "That" is what brings the success.
You ars my favourite 'slow travel' RU-vidrs. You are very relatable, relaxed and informative and show sincerity at all times. You deserve all good things in life and more.
Your earlier videos may not be the quality you want, but they were genuine & organic-that's what got me interested & returning. Your videos are most often judged by the genuineness of the content & not the quality of presentation.
Hi Brian & Carrie, Fellow 50’s here. I think it’s admirable that you’ve continued to learn new skills while also navigating your travel experiences. I enjoy your informative videos, genuine personalities, age-relevant😉 perspective & sense of humour. Thanks for the work you put in to your videos!
As travelers who are going to "launch" our channel with content at the beginning of next year (after I retire), this is a very helpful and encouraging video. You guys have great chemistry which plays no small role in your success.
Why not start now? You can share your process of getting there, planning, expectations, and what your channel will be about. You will have the chance to do it in a control environment and test things put before you head out on your journey. Good luck!
You guys are really good on camera. You are natural, engaging and personable. I want to watch your videos from beginning to end. You are doing an amazing job and it shows since you have almost 67k subscribers. Really enjoy your content and keep it up!
not a youtuber myself, but I enjoy your videos and a those of a few other 50-ish content creators related to early retirement, slow travel, and financial independance. Thanks for taking your valuable time to share your experiences and lessons!
When I first started watching you both, I was a bit jealous of y'all, being my age and living my dream, so I didn't watch much. But now I watch y'all all the time. You both are so sincere and caring people. You are so informative, you really want people to learn and I am so happy I found y'all last year. You have taught me a lot and I am truly thankful. I hope you continue to put out great content like this video! Blessings to you both! Right now my husband and I travel on 8 day vacations 4 times a year. Prayerfully we will get to retire in a couple of years and travel overseas for two months at a time, 3 times a year, with our homebase here in Texas near our family. That's our goal!
I believe content is more important than worrying about the perfect editing/lighting, etc..So, so far, you have provided great content! Keep it up guys👍🏾👍🏾
You have discovered a whole world outside of the comfortable world you once knew and loved - kudos to you for the growth that has brought, and the inspiration it gives to others.
This was very entretaining and I have enjoyed watching your travels for close to a year and seen you change from fast to slow travel. You both lookk and sound happier and more content with the slow travel approach and going home to Washington for a month at a time at least three times a year. Your channel has been growing and that is good to see as well. You have also given me some good ideas for places to travel to that I might never have given a 2nd thought. Thanks for sharing all that you do.
Appreciate you all sharing your story and why you do it, my wife and I recently started our slow travel retired life and you both have helped us more than you know. Still kicking around the idea of doing RU-vid and after watching this video I believe I will
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. I came across your channel while researching Phuket and found it to be incredibly informative and refreshingly honest. My 8-year-old and I really enjoy watching your videos as we plan our itinerary. Wishing you all the best on your RU-vid journey and many millions of subscribers!
We are certainly glad you decided to start your channel. Your content has not only been helpful with some of our travel planning, but you have also inspired us to give RU-vid a go. We are practicing trying to look natural on camera and will produce our first content in Portugal and Spain next month. So thanks for doing what you do and don't stop doing it please.
You two are AWESOME and your videos are getting better and better! Thank you for your great work! You B You!!!! :). You two are perfect! Looking forward to your videos in 2025 and beyond! Have a great rest of 2024 and THANK YOU!
Love watching you both, just a question, will you be going back to showing more videos of the areas you visit, this is what has shown us where are the interesting places to visit. Although listening to you in your accommodation is great, but certainly missing the walking and talking videos.
YES!! We are currently visiting family but will be heading back out in a couple of weeks. We will be shooting a lot of destination style videos very soon!! Thank you for asking!!
Thanks Brian and Carrie. We’re both 56 and until this year only used Facebook, Insta and journals to record our travels. We’ve started playing with video this year and are now thinking about putting a bit more into our RU-vid channel. Your video was great inspiration.
Totally understand! We just started our travel channel @TravelTuna And it is a complete learning curve. I didn't know editing was going to be so hard and filming is so technical. We just bought a GoPro and the difference in stabilization is amazing! I'm learning everyday and getting better with each video. I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm having a blast! My husband and I are semi-retired and I found I needed something more to do in the afternoons. Love watching your journey! You inspired me! I'm solo traveling for 36 days, doing 7 cruises back to back on three different Cruise lines all free. I'm having the time of my life and love sharing it with others so maybe they can do it too. Anna
I've watched all your content from the beginning, and enjoy every second. I do also enjoy the podcasty style videos, however, your bread and butter content is about places. When you are back in the US, could you hold back a few "place" based videos to release? This might balance out your content mix during these times.
You two are great. My girl and I look forward to your videos each week. We are planning on going Nomad in 2 years and we look forward to what you have to tell use each week. Keep it up!
I have been watching your videos from the beginning. I noticed you have gotten away from sharing the country you are visiting. I really enjoyed the information you provided especially for Thailand and Vietnam as we visited those places this year. Will you be doing those videos any more
We are a retired couple married 55 years with 3 children and eight grandchildren. We have had the good fortune to travel throughout our married life… my husband had Southeast Asia ( mainly China, Hong Kong, Thailand) as a territory in his career and at about your age I got to go on a few trips with him ( usually for a mont at a time…) and while he worked I explored. It was wonderful! Saw things, places I could never have imagined. Since his retirement we have done some cruises which are fun. My favorite thing is to go for a month and really enjoy a place ( France is my favorite). So when I happened upon your utube about a year ago it really captured my interest. Authenticity has been mentioned in other comments. I agree completely. You are both great examples. There is no way I would feel comfortable selling my home to do what you do… but I love that you did it and are sharing this lifestyle. Very entertaining. Very glad you have found success in following your passion and much appreciate how you freely share your experiences ( bad and good) with your audience. Bravo!
Guys! Thanks to your exceptional videos (early-ish follower and hometown fangirl LOL), my husband and I have decided to embark on our own journey/adventure of slow travel retirement beginning mid-Q1 2025. I feel so grateful to have discovered your channel and have immense appreciation for your generosity of time and ideas. And because I began following your channel, the YT algorithm goddesses have seen fit to introduce us to other slow travel retirees channels as well.
Thank you for your video this week. It definitely resonated with me. I'm 58 and just started my slow travels this past July. I had all the intention to do a youtube channel, for the same reasons as you talked about. I needed to find a hobby to fill my time with. I have done a tremendous amount of research, I have the basic equipment with me and a game plan. Just need to do it and press record. Stay motivated and keep living the dream.
You guys are a hoot and have been great inspirations! Kristi and I are 54 and 55, so we can fully relate to your age context discussions and outlook on everything. I do hope we see more of the videos where you're out and about "on location" seeing the sights! We did have a question or two though on something we've not seen you specifically discuss, but may have just mentioned briefly. The question is on what your children's individual take is on all your travels that you've done so far....their individual opinions you've seen or discussed; and/or ways they've had to have flexibility in their schedules to be able to be with you when you're back stateside. What are their thoughts on your actual absence from their lives, the grandkids lives, the activities they can or can't do with you? Do they plan on meeting up with you in the future, now that you guys have a lot of baseline knowledge on the ins and outs of travel? Is there any detectable resentment from them with you guys out seeing the world, while they're still back at home in the daily grind and realizing they may never have the opportunity to do what you guys are doing? We traveled a lot while in the Air Force, and could always feel the slightly detectable resentment right over the phone when we were stationed overseas in Europe and the Pacific and had been discussing some of the areas we visited while stationed in those locales, so really curious to hear what you're experiencing currently in those aspects! When Kristi finishes up her final two upcoming work years, we're headed out as well to travel 6-7 months of the year...though I guess holding onto our home here in central Oklahoma as I cannot convince her otherwise!
❤❤❤. Remember us, my son and I leaving California in 7 weeks to slow travel. Getting much information from you two !!! But my son did not listen to you Brian. Walked with phone in hand, fell, twisted ankle. He just started his RU-vid channel called “ Prejean with a Passport” Check his 3 videos to know him. Stay safe !
It's nice to hear about your beginnings. Im still working full-time and not as consistent as I'd like to be posting. I'm still learning a lot though. Thank you for this video!
I was going to start a channel. I even paid for a course. I started filming content for cruises and cruise ports. I just don't think my content will be worth it to do it. I am a dull analytical geek. I can't see myself making content that will be attracting enough people to make it worth while. One really needs to love doing this kind of thing. Plus being single it really is a lot of work.
We are in Serandë and staying in a hostel. The budget didn't survive Croatia, so we had to pick the cheapest place, and OMG--IT was a death trap. My partner, who is a You Tuber, is having a crisis with the whole platform. I think that in order to keep the rent cheap you have to do it way in advance, not on the fly like we tried. We are pivoting and hopefully we can recover. Thank you so much for all the great information. We will do the Greece, Hungary and onto Turkey, and planning on 2 months stay, we will do a repositioning cruise to get back to the states and our Skoolie. Keep it up.
Thank you for your time and posting. I don't knowwww. It looks like work. Will I have to think too much? Will I have time to play Call of Duty? I'll think about it... Wait! I'm already thinking too much. ;) I love retirement. :)
Really interesting video. I took a slightly different path than you have. I am writing books. Just finished my third book which should get published in about two weeks. I publish on Amazon and really haven't made any money yet. Thank goodness my motivation, like yours wasn't about the money. I moved to Spain and am writing every day and really enjoy the entire process. To me it seems very similar to your RU-vid journey, just a different vehicle. You're interesting people and I love how normal you are. Keep having fun and I will continue to travel along with you!
"...it's not at easy as it looks." Srsly true. So much behind the scenes. So much using your gear. So much managing time. It's a lot of work. I turned to FB ads...I liked it more than organic posting but it's also it's own beast for sure.
Thanks for sharing with us. You two do a great job and are very informative. I'm setting out on a 6 month tour of SEA. You have inspired myself to maybe look at becoming a RU-vidr. I'm a young 60 year old who gets bored easily. lol
Hi guys, I hope you are enjoying being home and seeing your family. I discovered you and began watching your channel when you had less than 1,000 subscribers. I am like Brian, I research everything before spending any money. It is true you have gotten much better! If you want an idea for videos, attend a cooking class and learn to make a popular dish of the country you are in. For example, when you were I. Budapest cooking a Hungarian Gulas would have been interesting. Are you going to post any videos from Belingham, or do we have to wait until Mexico?
We are going to introduce more food in our videos. We just want to do it differently than most. We did do a video last summer from Bellingham but not anything new this time around. We are looking forward to getting on the road in a couple of weeks to bring new travel content!
Another GREAT video, Brian & Carrie! Everything you said totally resonated with us. We are in the “re-evaluating our equipment” phase (gimbal was an epic fail!!!!) and trying to figure out how to get our family to warm up to what we want to do/sell everything we own etc. We’re probably a couple years behind you and also mid 50s. Trying to get enough subscribers for monetization and learning from our plethora of mistakes already made 😂. Thanks for showing us all the right way to do it!
Your earlier videos are why I subscribed and watched. This new format may be ‘better quality’ but idk, just not the same. I find I watch less and follow other creators who show actual travel videos. Hope you return to the old format soon.
Curious about YT business concept. Since this is a business that generates income, what can you expense to the business? Assume cameras, costs for education can be done. Not sure about travel costs being deductible expenses.
Question. Is there a way to tell at first glance from your RU-vid videos, which will also show up over on the podcast? I want to hear/see all of them, but have more listening time available than watching, so want to do as many as possible on the podcast for audio only. Thanks 🙂
It seems like a lot of work, an alternative ‘job’….it doesn’t seem like retirement to me but I get it. I have a hobby of being a volunteer City Guide, even that has started to feel like a job so I’ve pulled back and put the time into learning Thai language simply for the fun of it. I used to help out volunteering with all sorts of stuff- but those hours I have been using to learn Saxophone…. so I’ve learnt to do fun stuff for me rather than for others. It was the first stage of my retirement to be ‘useful’ and feel there was purpose. I’m in stage 2 now where I’ve learnt to focus on me instead and it’s a great feeling…
@@BrianandCarrie that’s good, but take care as capable people (like us 😁) often start to try to optimise our hobby and outperform others…. then it tips over into becoming job like and the fun dissipates. 👍
Great video, I was only thinking yesterday, I wonder what they use for camera gear (yes I think about your channel when not watching it...). I started my slow travel in July, and also started my channel, but yes it is a lot of work. I tried the video promotion thing a week ago which sent one of my videos off the charts, but I don't think it really did my channel too much good. So good advice to keep doing it and don't expect too much in the first year (I think I was expecting too much). But it is a lot of fun, I am working on my next vid today and I know when it gets to editing, I will have a lot of fun. I do want better gear though, the phone is just not cutting it for me...
First off, LOVE the name! Gotta be Trippin!! Your good on camera and having over a thousand subs at this point is really good!! We would suggest keeping the gear as minimal as possible. Good sound and lighting are key. We are excited to watch your channel grow!! 😊
@@BrianandCarrie Thanks for the feedback and advice, yes sound and lighting are areas I definitely need to address, looking forward to getting to Europe where it might be easier to pick up a microphone...
i'm still a newbie RU-vidr. Great to hear how you've changed your approach as you've skilled up and grown your channel! I def want to add to my equipment but I'm limited to what I can carry on my own, so interesting to hear about your GoPro! I'm perhaps relying on iPhone and Davinci Resolve 'stabilization' to remove the shakiness but I'm sure it's still terrible LOL! P.S. ALSO 50!
Yes I love your vlogs too as I love traveling. I couldn’t do what you do as I love my house too much but I have more money to spend on travel. I’ve always been a budget person, don’t need expensive things, haven’t ever flown first class and after flying British Airlines won’t. We flew from San Francisco to London direct, on arrival we walked through first class to get off the plane. Our area was spotless, first class was like walking through the dump. The entire floor was covered in garbage, I wish I had my camera out, it was unbelievable pig sty. Just because you paid a lot, why would you do that??? When I leave a hotel room I try to make it easier on the maid, they have a hard job.
Love you videos and transparency! Which Canon do you have? I have an old 7D and several lenses. Would love to upgrade the body. Hope to see you on the road some time.
Thanks 👍 You two are so motivating. I'm launching my Guppy 🐟 Circus 🎪 training channel. 😉 Still no luck on dry land, who'd of thought a fish tank, would be better.😮 Now to figure out the training part. 🤔 And getting the clown make up to stay on. 🤡 Or how about a pineapple 🍍 painting channel? 🎨 No no not painting them on canvas. Painting historical art on to pineapples. Like Mona Lisa, the 16th chapel, etc. 😊😅 And my daughter says I'm not creative 😒 🙄 😉
Hi guys, I really love your channel and the way you inspire others. I do have a question as you tubers how do you store your photos and videos while traveling full time. Do you pay a cloud storage service, and if you do which one?
I enjoyed the video. Wondering what microphone you use. I see one on Brian's shirt, but not on Carrie. Do you just use 1? I know nothing about this stuff, so I don't even know the range of one.
Hi! We just added these mics about 6 months ago and they were a game changer in sound quality. I (Carrie) have one on, just under my shirt. You can see all our equipment and mics on our website on this page: www.brianandcarrietravels.com/shop-2
Your channel is good. It is just a pity that the majority of these channels are about slow travel or digital nomads. Frankly, I am interested in learning from people who have relocated to developed countries, especially in Europe. I am just not interested in living in FSU countries or third world countries
I like the fact that you admit that it’s a part time job and you’re not fully retired, unlike another couple who tells everyone that they’re retired and that RU-vid isn’t work 😂😅
I was going to ask that too. And Brian, don't give us the, "it will be in an upcoming video" 😁 I know you said you're going to have a new packing video soon, but don't make us wait. 😰 Did you get a Pacsafe? Been meaning to ask if you two have checked out their website. I think you'll like their logo. 🐢
🤔 Hmm, hard to decide, which is more annoying? How much money did you start out with? How much do you make on RU-vid? How much was your house and car worth? (ok, haven't seen anyone ask that one...yet). Or...gee you look old. 🤯 Ay Dios mio. 🤦♂RU-vid manners...or just manners of today (lack thereof). I, like you, grew up where you don't ask about peoples personal things...esp. big ticket items. Sadly that has gone the way of the Dodo bird. SMDH
We have been asked recently how much is in our bank accounts including 401k and pensions. This person said we need to disclose this information because we are discussing finances on RU-vid. 🤔
