From years of seeing one dissapointed creator after another, it shows that it favours big companies over small guys just trying to create content that they like. I find it a miracle that there are still individuals out there making good content.

I feel like kids are not expressed to the dangers of wanting to be a influencer. They are shown all the good but not the bad of the mental strain being a content creator is with all the other downsides to it. I personally have a fear of fame which I’m not saying is good but kids needs to have a back up plan. RU-vidr shouldn’t be the first option it should be a side goal that you work on while you work on your main course. I think we should show kids a reality of what happens when you work like a RU-vidr. Videos that are shown to kids explaining the issues and benefits (Edit: I was making this comment while watching the video and I just realized he made the same message as me by the end lol)

I've been making content for almost 6 years now, and RU-vid has been making it very difficult to keep up for many reasons. Algorithm issues, losing subs from just uploading, the COPPA & Demonetization issues, and just overall not getting the same level of flexibility as before. Literally every decision RU-vid makes makes it less & less fun to edit & upload content. And I'm happy that more and more creators are aware of the issues. As of right now, RU-vid is just overfilled with garbage decisions, and I really hope they actually put creators & users first sometime in the future.

Making content that is bigger than yourself and something you love will keep you happy on the wheel a lot longer than making yourself the product.

I feel like PewDiePie has gone through the whole thing on RU-vid and is now in a position where he Essentially “retired” and only makes videos for his own enjoyment, he’s also managed to prioritise his personal life, and can just leave without having to explain himself, his fans are understanding and have shown they’ll support him no matter what he choses to do

RU-vid is slowly destroying themselves. No other social media is causing their downfall, it's their own fault. They literally punish smaller creators and just keep focusing on bigger content creators.

I remember getting the notification for this video, and panicking as I misread it as an announcement of why he is quitting youtube, but having a breath of relief when I realised it wasn't. coming back now, I think my initial thoughts were correct especially now that all his socials, instagram and twitter, are wiped blank. wherever you are andrei, I wish you the absolute best. thank you for making me form my own opinions about issues, realise my biases and look at things from a different perspective. I genuinely learnt things from you and your videos, and would regularly rewatch them. you built a great channel and community and I hope to see you if not soon, eventually but if that doesn't happen, then so be it. It’s really sad to see RU-vid continuing to not listen to their creators and ignore their requests to make the platform better, instead of dealing with issues like spam comments and bots, they remove the dislike button and telling creators to be family friendly whilst also not being family friendly

If somebody were to create a better alternative to RU-vid, my concerns would be whether or not Google would let it enter the mainstream and whether it may seem like a great alternative but fall to the same depravity that current RU-vid has.

Being a creator is the best job I have ever had, and I'm so greatful to be here. What I'm able to do with it and the people I can support in my position is honestly mind blowing. It's also been the job with the most mental strain and borderline burnout by a long shot. Anything from RU-vid randomly deleting your channel overnight or copyright abuse, to threats of doxxing. Or harassment and rumors/allegations spread by people who don't like you. Or just the everyday hate. Not to mention the pressure of always producing, staying "relevant" or trying to manuver social standards (which are often based on forgein countries social climate) where you can be funny but not get cancelled. Realising now andrei attitude to the online world has changed alot over the last 5 years. From deleting all his socials and to almost no community engagement anymore, I feel sad watching this back now and thinking andrei is using this video as his possible exit from youtube. I really do hope he comes back because I have thoroughly enjoyed his for many years and loved the little clips of the wilfur lore during videos, I even got his youtooz. He may feel too pressured anymore to keep up with game of youtube anymore because it could be a chore to him now which is really sad to see. Its completely understandable and if you’ve ever had a youtube channel you will know what I mean very easily. We also have no idea what andrei’s mental state is due to his commentary format and that is of course okay, but I do wish he is doing okay and taking the break he needs. If he does decide to never come back and he reads this, I just want to say alot of us did really enjoy your content and wish you luck with whatever you have going on in your life :) Edit: looking back at this video now and at the end andrei does actually hint he might be done with youtube as he closes the app, he then switches to a point of him building a cot of some sort for a baby signalling he has a child now, if thats the case congrats andrei! For my thoughts as an Animator RU-vidr, Its fun for the most part. It really changed my life in a way. Had the things Ive never had, tried the things Ive never tried, Of course no bad things lol. A whole lot of experience. But the feeling of being burnt out and fearing that you will lose views if you don't upload enough sucks. I ignored this a few times and it affected my health till the point where its a possibility that I need surgery. Nowadays I'm trying to slow down and focus on my health despite losing views. Anyone can be a RU-vidr, you just need to put in effort into what you do and hopefully you can be blessed by the Algorithm. But Personally I'm not sure if I can maintain this success in a few years time. Its a bit blurry, I might stop whenever who knows. But at least I have somewhere else to go if I do leave. For those who dreams to be a RU-vidr, tiktoker , insta influencer , whatever. no one is stopping you from becoming one, but just to be safe, make sure you have a backup plan when you feel like its going down.

This is why a lot of kids wanting to be online influencers actually need to take the time to think about what they actually want to be influencing. So many times have I seen people immediately jumping onto RU-vid and trying to copy their favorite content creators only to get very little results, leading them to just give up entirely.

Imagining that Fred is somewhere enjoying his life, hopefully starting a family, brings me a lot of joy.

I personally feel that the burnout happens faster in certain categories of RU-vid. Like animation, skit youtubers, etc. Stuff that takes time and effort but is given fraction of the attention. After uploading a certain amount of videos most people just give up and don't come back. On the other hand, i see cringe youtubers who tend to manipulate kids in order to gain more attention than other youtubers. I don't see how they can put actual effort in making cringey videos on a daily basis. In conclusion i think burnout happens to the best of us, following the numbers become addicting very fast. Creators are who they are because they love to make videos, not forced to make videos. They can only put out their best work if they feel their audience will like it.

The problem with RU-vid is that it’s almost too big to fail so that alternatives have no time to breathe in the spotlight. The closest we got to a popular alternative to RU-vid was StoryFire but then the creator(don’t remember his name) dungoofed and faked its shut down. This is why I think youtubers like Jeremy Jahns, Doug Walker, Angry Joe, Chris Stuckmann have stuck around for as long as they have. There's always a movie to talk about, a tv show to dive into, video games to tear apart. I remember Jahns uploading monthly vlogs and they were a nice peak into his life, and people did want more of them. But you know what? Jeremy stuck to his guns on it just being a one and done thing. He's quite private about his life. And I think that also speaks to the success of some youtubers and the failures of others. There's pros and cons to being very open online. But the cons outweight the pros in my opinion. Make one mistake, that's hung over your head like a dark stain. It's why I just upload when I feel like it. My last review was Sonic 2020. I think it would be nice to review again, but my god a pandemic and how the United States was, and job hunting.....I put my actual life over my hobby. I think that's how people should look at youtube-make it a hobby. No matter where you work, you shouldn't hate going to work. And if youtube turns from hobby to job, and you hate it...it's time to leave.

I think the biggest pitfall career youtubers run into is that they make RU-vid their LIFE. Everything they do has to be related to or for the betterment of their channel. To me, RU-vid is a job. I treat it like a job intentionally because that way I set boundaries for myself. I reserve time in a week to work, and the rest is for my own personal enjoyment. By treating it like a job, like it’s a 9-5 you ironically have a much healthier lifestyle than if you were to make RU-vid your life, which sounds crazy because people go into RU-vid to ESCAPE the 9-5. Then again it’s not really a 9-5 in a traditional sense.

this has happened in the past, and always will happen. once a company gets big enough, it will stop caring about public opinion and relationships with partners or in this case, content creators, and instead head down the route of squeezing every last bit of profit out of any opportunity they can find.

Probably the best and most demanding job I have ever had, more so than being a hotel Chef Manager. That being said, I still love it after 3 years. I make less money than a chef, but I get to be creative and try to be better and better. Maybe I'm a masochist, but the forever student mentality in me to learn has really made me want to continue when I wanted to quit.

RU-vid has had one of, if not the LARGEST, fall from Grace of any platform on the internet. We went from an amazing platform where people could upload what they want, when they want, and how they want, without getting criticized for every little thing they do, to a platform that clearly only favors big, rich creators who can be potential cash cows for the company, while leaving everybody else in the dirt. So many amazing vids and channels deleted because RU-vid want’s to appeal to a certain minority. I’ve been on RU-vid since 2013, and I’ve seen a bunch of cool stuff from that time fall into the lost void in the internet, and it’s depressing

I really needed this video. I started my channel a year ago and started out super small, but over the course of 2021 my content blew up. At first it was really exciting, and it still is... but I also felt nervous. I don’t WANT to be the most famous person in the world. I don’t WANT to have it consume my life. And I am taking measures to help that: I don’t monetize, I don’t live off of RU-vid, I don’t show my face or give any personal details about myself, in hopes that my internet persona and my true self can remain separate. But I still struggle. So thank you for bringing this topic to light; it opened my eyes to what I need to do to keep myself on the right track

In my industry, people teach and then upsell expensive courses. I didn't upsell anything. only to attract entitled people who blame me and expect me to do things for them. And still getting insulted with labels everyday by people who hide behind their profile pics. Telling me the worst things about the way i look and my work. I am burnt out and on antidepressants because of content creation. I feel like quitting everyday.

You know, ever since I found out what RU-vid was, I wanted to create content and entertain others. That dream hasn’t died, but it’s gotten harder to complete because school has been stressing me out to the point I can’t animate cuz I’m exhausted or barely get time to myself… and every time I look at those animators who also helped inspire me, I felt SHAME when I saw that literally as TEENAGERS, they were doing 1000000000000000 times better than I am… they had school, and perhaps even other jobs, and yet they managed to complete things I still struggle to do. I hate how it feels… to see others that are/were my age doing the things I want to with more ease and dedication while I’m just here struggling and doing nothing to actually improve… I still want to animate and write my show, I still want to entertain, but it’s become harder to do it the way I want to. So I’m trying to create smaller content for everyone else so that they don’t become bored with the little work I’m putting out… I can only hope that once I graduate and can take a break, I’ll finally be doing better… I still really want to animate

The decision to become a youtuber is a commitment that I find very hard to make at this point, given real life things, but it's refreshing to see a veteran's perspective.

I'm glad this video exists. The topic it raises is one that should be discussed more frequently. I'm not in the same boat as a lot of RU-vid channel creators. I say this because I've been around the RU-vid Community since Fred was a thing, but I didn't decide to upload videos to my channel until 2020, so there are some things I don't know because I've never uploaded before, and so that metaphorical box mentioned in this video, I hope I just throw it away and don't let it consume me.

I think Andrei had a lot to think about while creating this episode. He probably reflected hard on his life while working in this episode. It’s like he made this episode for himself to give him a push to leave RU-vid and pursue something bigger. Hope you’re alright man, I love your videos.

I’ve listened to a lot of RU-vidrs talk about this before at this point, and while I’d say the majority have similar ideas to what you said in this video, everyone is different, and I’ve have seen massive creators (who I trust are honest with their personality) express that they have no stress or pressure, they just make content they enjoy and have fun with it. I think the real thing to figure out is what your own personal limits are. Some people may be fully capable of over sharing their life with no mental consequences. Some people may get into controversy and not let the stress eat away at them. Ultimately people are different, but I think your video is a good representation of the average person. Those creators who are happy and stress free are likely not the majority, they are lucky individuals who function differently.

Fulfillment Vs. Clout. Makes me respect all the RU-vidrs that find the happy medium all the more.

as the days go on, I make more money on other platforms. youtube is more of a promotion platform for my works now. it's an amazing opportunity for new careers, but it's limits are starting to become visible & golden years are behind it.

I've worked towards being an epic and successful *true* youtuber since I was 9 years old. And when I finally did it, I basically lost all sorts of motivation in less than a year. That 9 year old me would be looking at me and thinking that I'm dumb, what am I even doing if not videos with a channel like this. But as soon as you *have* to deliver for the algorithm and for your audience, it loses its magic. But those few months will forever be the best months of my life. And just to round it off, I still believe that RU-vid Shorts killed 80% of channels like mine, posting short, under 1 minute videos, in the normal way. Perfect example of the platform's almost suicidal actions happening these days.

As someone who makes RU-vid since 7 years now and never reached 1000 Subs, i got annoyed that big youtubers complained about their fame and what stress it causes. i never sat down and thought about what pressure it can give you, to entertain thousands / millions of people and still stay relevant and creative. since i really understood, how hard this career can be, i slowed down my upload schedule and started to only make videos whenever i wanted to. i mean, this is the reason why i started making Vids. To have fun. Not to feed a computer just to get 10 more views

I mean it's understandable RU-vid is basically a cesspool of garbage at this point various RU-vidrs put their blood sweat and tears into trying to make it on this platform and what do they have to show for it? A lazy app that doesn't even care about its creators.

You just gotta do it as a hobby, once you start focussing on views and money the content quality goes down and you will start to lose motivation. but if you do it because you enjoy it, it shouldn't matter how many views or how much money u get, since you're doing it for your own pleasure anyways and your videos will usually be getting more views naturally anyways since the content will be better

On twitch, I was able to hit 1.2k followers within a year, had a small fan base, and someone even donated $100 on my last stream. But then all of a sudden, I lost the motivation to keep up the energy on the stream. I figured it was because of how much I had to sacrifice my career and my social life throughout that year just to keep up with everyone else. It started to become less enjoyable and felt like I was clocking in for work. I quit streaming this past January and I actually feel freer, being able to go to the gym and hang out with friends. I am a lot happier now than I was streaming

It's like with any other "dream job", people(or kids nowadays) just see the positives like popularity and monetary gain while playing their favourite video games, but in the end totally ignoring what it really means to be an entrepreneur and the drawbacks/responsibilities that come with it. Especially with an completely unreliable business partner like RU-vid or any other Big Tech company. Really interesting video.

I'm not self-absorbed or egotistical enough to be a brand influencer, and besides, thirstiness is the ultimate cringe. Nice vid. Stay monetized.

As someone who grew up on RU-vid, I can say with certainty that it affects your expectation of the platform. Since your watching curated content it’s not obvious to some, especially when you’re young, that some people hire help, or are not doing well in their personal lives. I’m glad to see that people who experienced the ups and downs of this industry are sharing their stories and advice since that’s some of the only things new creators can use to effectively approach a career online if they wish to pursue one.

Honestly, doing stuff like RU-vid, streaming on Twitch, and other content creation of that kind is much better done as a hobby. Unfortunately, the society we live in tends to push you into trying to turn it into a full career. Because if you're not actually making it a source of income, people will say it's a waste of time...

While the main reason for me not starting my youtube channel yet is simply indecision, I've always thought about the stability of such a career. Due to how unstable it is, I'm making a backup plan by getting a degree before diving head first. That way I actually have a reasonable amount of insurance that my life won't go to shit in the event I do poorly on youtube.

I've been watching youtube since 2012, and I can honestly tell you that its best to treat youtube as hobby than as career, as that way you can make the content you want without the mental strains that come with fulltime youtube. Some of the best videos on this platform come from people who never worry about their numbers on Yt because the dont have to, its not their main gig. I know the algorythm makes it harder to do youtube as a hobby as well as the classsic old tale "I abandoned my shitty job for YT" that gives people starry eyes, but if anyone out there wants to get into youtube, I would still tell them to do it as a hobby regardless of everything else. Also look for alternate websites to put your content in (Odysse, Newgrounds,etc..) not because those websites might be better than YT but as a backup in case one day YT kicks the buckets or decides to censor your videos.

At first I was on youtube just to post my amateur animations and didnt really care about anything. Then my vids got lots of engagement and suddenly I’m an animation meme youtuber who makes fan animation videos lol. It’s been 7 months only but yes the pressure and stress is there. It is my job and it pays my bills, so if I dont upload enough videos then I will lose my audience when I am trying to gain a large following. It takes a lot of time and energy while I’m juggling with other things in life, but I know it will worth it eventually. If you do youtube for a living, then it is definitely stressful especially when you are still a small content creator.
