Marty Robertson's WICKED 68' Plymouth Barracuda from the Radial Revenge "Sunrise Nationals" at Tulsa Raceway Park. The car features a 521ci Brad Anderson Hemi with an F3 ProCharger and runs on a Mickey Thompson 315 Drag Radial tire.
The car is actually so savage that they literally have guys opening the doors so the driver can see and doesn't suffocate from the smoke it's kicking up.
That has to be the nicest engine compartment I have ever seen in a car, all motor huge valve covers beautiful hogans intake and if you know a little about motors that intake is built purposely with that wide rounded bulge to take advantage of all that boosted air and compress it all at once to take advantage of the procharger! Nice job Mr. hemi nice job!!!
for those who doubt, the Brad Anderson Hemi cranks 4000+, news reel. I worked for Brad Anderson on his sons Funny Car, there wasn't a dyno that could hold that BAE Powerplant's numbers. The key during that era was not the Engine itself, because we ran TFX blocks, but the Cylinder Heads.
For a minute there I almost wondered if this couldn't be my old 67 fastback (used to be 318) I traded off to Davis Auto in Ava for a 73 Charger with a 440 that I also eventually traded out as well when gas prices went over $1.85 and I thought how can I afford - I REALLY REALLY feel for you boys with these things these days, hats off to you for sure.
Eric T Holding those kinds of cars open for that long is a dangerous thing to try. I know that higher power cars do it, but it's still dangerous as fuck. 1/8 mile saves a lot of headaches.
I've seen one of these smoke the fuck out of my friends suped up oldschool 5.0. We saw these guys at 7-11 and they asked to race. Very impressive. Burned the shit out of my buddy.
Sooooooooo, I guess that would be a 7 Second Car, in a 1/4, i mean 4 seconds in One Thousand Feet, is just Insane!!! Wicked it is, thanks for a Bad Ass Video!!!!
Safety is first, most tracks don't have the run off if the shoots don't open for the top fuel cars, i'm sure it trickles down for the slower cars as well.
the only reason that i could think of why 1/8 mile. maybe cheaper insurance, less real estate. less accidents, less breaking down. many reason but the first two reasons are my no.1..
My wife came in the room while I was watching this video, I quickly had to put on some porn because it was easier to explain what I was doing at the time.
Hey there Ralph, if you like this Cuda, you should check out my grandpa back in the day. Bill Vogt. You can find some videos here on RU-vid, type in Vogt Swenson racing.
The true 1/4 mile for NHRA sanctioned events is no more. After Scott Kalittas' death a few years ago, the length was shortened to 1000 feet. For the non sanctioned events, some will ok the full quarter, and others use either the 1000 mark or even the 1/8th mark.
Heck yeah! He has the set up right so he's got to do is keep it in his lane. One thing for sure is any car with power is going to make you light in gut .
+Joe Viviani - It's a 1/4 mile track but they run 1/8 mile with Radial Revenge. Reasons: 1) Less speed = less insurance cost. 2) Less time for wide open throttle generally equates to less catastrophic engine or transmission failure 3) If reason #2 occurs, it takes considerably less time (and manpower) to clean up oil spills and usually provides a reduction in severity if a crash occurs. 4) Again, if reason #2 occurs, spectators don't get bored to death waiting for the cleanup to occur before being able to see more racing. 5) Going with reason #2 happening yet again, these classes have become so large at many events that Sunday eliminations may not be completed within a reasonable amount of time which prevents many racers from being able to return home soon enough to make it to work either Monday or Tuesday. Many racers travel 600 or more miles to race. They DO have businesses to run and/or they don't all have the ability to take an extra day or two off work for each race they attend. ---- Lastly, in this video, the blue Barracuda ran a best 1/8 mile time of 4.26 @ 182.65 mph. This equates to a 1/4 mile time of roughly 6.84 seconds.
Can't he install better brakes? I don't know about inside-the-parts. Someone explain? Oh yeah, I'm happy to see a Hemi Cuda that says 'F-you' to its opponents.
+Jason Herriott ummm you know you can run 1/8th mile at 1/4 mile tracks yes? This video does not show him running 4.26 at 180mph on a 1/4 mile pass. That doesnt even make sense Sir.
+Jason Herriott The car is fast but it is not a 4 second car in the 1/4 my friend. Think about the mph in run after run. If the car ran such et's in the 1/4 mile it could qualify at many national events in AA/FC
Am I the only one who heard that feller say 1978 at the beginning?? I mean I know it's a 68. My family has had a 67 and a 68 since they were brand new and they keep getting passed on down the line as the year's go on. But I swear he said 1978.
must be nice to be rich wow nicest second gen cuda ever EVER!!!!! please can i be your friend hang out with you maybe get to take it for a spin lol!!!! buddy!
