Hoist the Colours, Carry On My Wayward Son, Halo theme, and Little Mermaid. Seriously, just pick one and you'll be happy. Geoff, the bass, has a 5 octave range and the others are at least 4, and I'm not sure Eli, pronounced Ellie and bald, doesn't have a 5 octave range too now. Geoff has been working on this one for years and VoicePlay does everything from arranging to lighting themselves. Only the final mix is done by someone else. Geoff has some solo stuff you have to check out too and you'll get a better idea of his range. It's insane. Yeah, I'm a Geoff fan too. LOL The reason this hits you so hard is the incredible harmonies. You'll hear more every time you hear it. Goeff and Layne the beatboxer are masters at arranging.

Love Rachel Potter :o) She is basically a Disney Princess in real life, I think. The Voiceplay, Moana Medley featuring her is fantastic and so is the Little Mermaid Medley. For more Geoff, Oogie Boogie is my suggestion but there are sooooo many that showcase his voice so well.

It absolutely tickled me when you said that Rachel Potter sounded like Elsa from Frozen. Idk if anyone else mentioned this, but: Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa, also originated the role of Elphaba (who sings Defying Gravity) in the Wicked musical. Rachel has a phenomenal talent for imitating the voice quality of other singers!

From left to right: Layne (Beatboxer), Eli (pronounced eh-lee) Tenor, Rachel Potter, Emoni Wilkins, Cesar De La Rosa Tenor/Baritone and Geoff Castelucci Bass. Voiceplay is all male currently yes. They are searching for their 5th member and membership has changed quite a bit in recent years so you will see others in older videos. This group loves to collaborate though so there is often a featured person even when they have all 5 members. They are known for their theatricality and intricate harmonies. I would recommend you watch their Halo theme, Oogie Boogie song, Queen in 5 minutes, Tennessee Whiskey, Moana Medley or any number of others. They and their arrangements are always great. Loved your reaction!

Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. #TheatreKidsOFACappella. Geoff (Jeff ) Castellucci is the bass. He did this arrangement, been working on it for years. Geoff also has his own channel that he does Low Bass covers. Layne is the beatboxer. Eli ( Ellie ) is the guy with the high voice. Cesar is the one standing next to Geoff. Rachel has done Disney Medleys with VoicePlay, Moana, The Little mermaid. Also did Kidnap the Sandi Claws. Go to their page and look up the list of her songs with them. They do lots of make-up, costumes, etc. Hoist the Colors. Queen in 5 min. Warriors.

VoicePlay was on the SingOff at the same time as Home Free. Based in Orlando, they worked as entertainers at Disney and Universal. Rachel Potter is also from Orlando and performed at Disneyworld. The producers suggested that they add a female for the SingOff but Rachel Potter was on the X Factor at the same time and wasn't available. They added Honey LaRochelle for the show. The Home Free Guys became good friends with them and have appeared on their channel on a few videos. Emoni Wilkins was in an all female group on the SingOff and her group came in 2nd place to Home Free. Their fundraiser video Just Sing is a good place to start. Make sure that you turn on the captions. Guest and members' names are on screen as well as other videos that they appear in.

Home Free and Voiceplay are my top 2 acapella groups. Check out Oogie Boogie Song, Carry On My Wayward Son and Queen in 5 Minutes. Geoff is pronounced Jeff. Actually, according to the bass battles, Tim goes lower than Geoff. However the sound is really different because they use different techniques. Tim favors growl technique while Geoff favors a subharmonic technique. Geoff explains the difference on his channel.

Tim, Geoff, and Avi ALL have similar ranges, but Avi rarely uses his lowest range or subs/vocal frys. They can all hit B0. Geoff has a large range in chest in the lower ranges than Tim.

Another checkbox you might want to add for VoicePlay is “genuinely nice people.” Geoff and Layne have been good friends since middle school and when they add a new member it’s like they join a family. They also have a huge extended family of artists that they have featured. Try Just Sing with the captions on - the talent they can call on boggles the mind. Geoff’s lowest note - a B0 - first appeared in their Halo video. If you watch that one, be sure to continue through the outro to gain some insight into the background of the group and the reason they chose that song to record. (It’s a memorial for a friend.) But Geoff can not only sing low, but very high and with beautiful tone throughout his 5 octave range. In fact all of them have large ranges. The tenor, Eli (say Ellie) often sings bass when Geoff has the lead, as he did here during Wonderful. Layne, the vocal percussionist, has a beautiful baritone voice. And can sing incredible low inhaled notes. You’re going to have a good time with this group! (One of my favorites is Queen in 5 Minutes.)

Ok. Here's the breakdown Eli (pronounced "Ellie), high tenor Cesar, second tenor (and the newest permanent member) Leyne (pron." lane"), beat boxer and primary arranger Geoff (pron. "Jeff"), bass and secondary arranger) Rachel was actually on a touring company for "wicked" the musical. The reason that last belt sounded like "frozen" is probably that the character of Elpheba in Wicked was started by the same actress who voices Elsa (Edina Menzel) Your next one should probably be "Oogie Boogie's song. After that, any of their "Aca top 10" videos would be fun. Also, as you love the basses, you should react to Geoff's own channel, where he's the only voice.... Welcome to the rabbit hole

Welcome to the Voice Play rabbit hole. In general VP does three types of songs. Full blown theatrical, which has earned them the title of "theater kids of a Capella", with costumes, and goofing around built in to song. Full a capella, where they mostly just stand or sit around and sing, then their relatively few singing in front of an audience live performances. Check out their theatrical songs: Hoist the Colours (same production team as this one. With Geoff Castellucci arranger, video, and direction, Eli on lighting, Geoff and Tony (former VP baritone, now co-owns Patty Cake Production with Layne Stein the other voice play arranger) directing. The Oogie Boogie Song, This is Halloween, What's this, and Kidnap the Sandy Claws all from The Nightmare before Christmas. They guys go all out for Halloween, and this year's Friend on the other side, from the Princess and the Frog was exceptional. Just singing: Tennessee Whisky, Bridge over Troubled Water, Carry on My Wayward Son, and Just Sing, be sure to turn on the captions, there are a lot of Voice Play related folks, former members, folks they've worked with, an amazing song. Live songs, check out Road Trip, Elvira, and The Chicken Song. Amazing group, Geoff and Layne have been singing together since they were both sopranos, and in one form or another the group has been around since 1997.

(And feel like a viking until the song ends and you realize you are but a mere mortal) - My Mother Told Me ft Jose Rosario Jr! Want to hear Geoff go from high up in the octaves to the bottom? (Hearing someone cover 5 octaves is insane) - Oogie Boogie's Song! They have so many good videos :)
@huldradraco
@huldradraco 2 года назад
as for the range of Geoff compared to Tim, they are pretty much the same, they just use different timbres and vocal techniques to reach the lowest/highest notes, making them sound different. some of Geoff's notes may sound lower because he has a fuller sound at the bottom, whereas Tim's low notes might be a bit more growly/breathy. both can go from B0 to A5. they both use a mix of chest voice and growl notes to reach their low notes, making for a nice variation in sound when they sing. Geoff also uses subharmonics for the lowest notes, while Tim also uses fry notes a lot at the bottom. so yeah, none of them is any "better" or lower/higher than the other, they just use different techniques and ofc have different timbres in their voices. both are top notch bass singers!

Emoni (ee-moan-ee) has performed with VP twice. Rachel Potter has sung with VP 5 times and was asked to join, but living in CA declined, but still does guest shot. Layne, the beatboxer is on the far left, Geoff (Jeff) is the bass on far right. They are childhood friends and sung together for decades. Being of a similar height, they either stay seated together or bookend the singers. VP is all male. They are currently 1 member short. Cesar (next to Geoff) just joined a few months ago when baritone J None joined the US Navy. The blade guy with the beard is Eli (EL-EE) with both a great range and very flexible in style. Geoff is known for routinely going into the first octave and even the 0 octave. In opera voices that low are called either basso profundo (Avi Kaplan is one) or Octavist who routinely goes below the lowest notes in the bass range. This is not opera, so Geoff, Tim, and Avi (who has formerly trained as an operatic basso profundo) all have remarkable ranges (Geoff about 5 octaves, sane as Tim. Avi might have a slightly smaller range.) Tim is famous for is 'growl' notes. Try Hoist the Colors with Jose Rosario Jr guesting.

Hoist The Colours, Just Sing, The Little Mermaid Medley, Oogie Boogies Song, The Moana Medley and If I were a Rich Man/Girl....not a bad choice in the lot. These guys do full costumes, all out. Good eye spotting Geoff Castelucci. He is a super low bass. He has the lowest note recorded , because each branch of the trifecta has a different style, there is room for all. They frequently feature in each other's videos and arrange music for each other. So much fum. Hugs from Newfoundland.

The main group is in fact all male! They are incredible. And you were in fact correct the bass is Geoff (Jeff) who also happened to arrange this song. It took him years! Many people start off with the oogie boogie song where geoff shows his range! Him and Tim I believe actually have very similar if not the same range. Although Geoff uses a technique called subharmonics where as tim uses growls. I would also recommend the little mermaid medley which also has Rachel potter in it! A quick breakdown of the group from left to right! Beatboxer: is the wonderful layne The man next to layne would be Eli (pronounced Ellie) he kinda sings everywhere. Next to Eli you have Rachel potter whose done lots with them! Then you have Emoni ( who correct me if I’m wrong) was an original member of voiceplay at some point. Then you have the newest member known as Caesar! After that you left with the incredible Geoff Castellucci! He has a lot of solo work that I would love to see you check out! He also does how do sing low tutorial videos which are always fun to watch if you want to see how he does all this crazy stuff! On top of his out of this world vocal talent, he also arranged this piece. Eli, pronounced elly, is the bald one. Layne is the beatboxer. He is their other main arranger.. Caesar in the Hispanic man with the poofy hair who is their newest member. They are 1 member down now, so they are featuring different people in videos, and they always blend with the group amazingly. I hesitate to tell you to go watch Hoist the Colours now. You will definitely love everything about it, but then you will have already done my 2 favorites from them. You said that Rachel sounded like Elsa from Frozen and that is not surprising at all. If you didn't know already, Wicked is a Broadway music based on a book that is an official prequel to The Wizard of Oz. The main character of Wicked is Elphaba, the green Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. In the original Broadway run of the show Elphaba was played by Indina Menzel. Indina Menzel provided the voice for Elsa in Frozen so the similarity in their voices is most likely intentional.

VoicePlay has the most member changes of the three groups. Layne the beatboxer is the king of odd sounds; Eli the bald high tenor (yes, it’s pronounced L-E) is the “belter” with a piercing, clear voice, Geoff (Jeff) is the bass and, of course, hits notes that are “under the basement”. Geoff has his own channel and sings harmonies with himself (Ya’ gotta see it). These are the main three. Cesar (pronounced C-zer) is the newest member but you will often see J None (who recently left for the Navy chorus) and Earl the extreme high tenor who left about a year or so ago. The rest will really turn out to be fabulous guest singers like Rachel and Emoni (E-mah-née). The song choices below are a good start.

Ms Potter is the dark haired beauty. She has performed on Broadway, and has been featured in other VoicePlay videos (Their tributes to Moana and The Little Mermaid come to mind). The other lady is Ms Wilkins, who performed with VoicePlay in the competition series The Sing Off. I think the group placed third that season. Proper whelming there Sauce. Yep, that completes the Holy Trinity of a cappella. You'll fill in the details as ya go and go you shall. VoicePlay was on the same season of the Sing Off that Home Free won and then later that year they did a video together, Zombies vs. Hillbillies. Sure would be nice if they did another collab. Speaking of collabs, ya gotta add Peter Hollens to the a cappella stew. Oh the awesome abundance ahead for thee.

Yes. Peter was on Season 2 of the SingOff, same Adam Chance's group Street Corner Symphony. He has done collabs with all three of the bass triad. Multiple times with Tim and one each with Avi and Geoff. (Geoff's is only a cameo). Adam Chance did one video with Peter and the Home Free Guys do one annually with him too. Even with quarantine last year, they did a remote video with patrons of Peter Hollens and Home Free as the chorus.

Those basses are all stunning, Avi has this gorgeous classical training and his tone is gorgeous, but he doesn’t use bass techniques much(not that he hasn’t used them) Tim can go the lowest with growls, which is a technique also known as “firebreathing”, he’s actually helped other basses learn the technique! And Geoff is the master of subharmonics, and his tone is very smooth all they way down and all the way up just like Tim and Avi. The three of them are superhuman and it’s crazy awesome to get to see them all : ) Geoff has made a few videos talking about the techniques, I think they’re called “How to sing really LOW” I can’t wait to see your other videos on Voiceplay! Home Free and Voiceplay were on the same season of the SingOff, did the SingOff tour together, and have collaborated a bit, and if you didn’t know, Pentatonix won that show too!

Ok, I'm working so I'm doing several posts lol I've supported them on Patreon for years and they're so good to their fans. When ever they post a new video we get to experience it generally a week ahead of everyone else. But, one of my favorite perks are their behind and making of their videos. They do every aspect that they can, including building the sets. I think the hand steaming the backdrop and getting it hung. . I believe it was at least 9hrs alone they are such a close net family. Their hilarious 😂 Geoff, Layne, & Eli have known each other I think since middle school maybe elementary. Your enthusiasm for them will keep me coming back for all your reactions ❤

Welcome to the rabbit hole! Current members (right to left, skipping the ladies): Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci (bass) Cesar De La Rosa Eli Jacobson Layne Stein (beatboxer) Ladies: Rachel - brunette Emoni - Blonde This is not even close to their best... Can't wait to see your mind blown! My personal favorites is: If I Was Rich Man/Girl Oogey Boogey Man Also Queen in 5 minutes and Panic at the Disco in 4 minutes part I and II... But there are too many great to list

Rachel has joined them multiple times and since she actually sang the lead role on Broadway, it was pretty obvious they were going to include her. I love your reaction when she lets everyone know there's a high end of the music scale as well. Emoni has joined them on a couple in the past as well. Geoff (the bass) did the arrangement for this over three years. He uses a different technique than Tim to hit the really low notes and I think he actually can go lower at this point (I believe the two are friends). The impressive part is he goes that low and still sounds clean we won't go into the fact he can pretty darn high with just under 5 octaves of range. He does some amazing solo videos as well. Check Hoist the Colors. Home Free is more country and seems to stick to a lower range a lot of the time even though Austin can hit a pretty high note at the top of his range. Voiceplay does more theatrical style. Both are fantastic groups. Pentatonix is up there as well, but more pop music style.

Hoist the Colours, Queen in 5 Minutes, panic in 4 Minutes PT 1 and 2... Basically throw a pin and whatever it lands on. Everything VoicePlay does is fantastic. Geoff ( Jeff ) is proof of life on other planets. The rest of us have accepted this as fact. Check out his solo channel. His latest is the Monster Mash, but his cover of Blackbird shows off his range beautifully.

Loved your reaction! Welcome to VoicePlay! They are amazing 🤩 Most people start with Oogie Boogie (great theatrics there as well) or Queen in 5 minutes . Couple of my favorites Daddy Sang Bass, Tennessee Whiskey, Warriors, Butter, Superstition - there aren’t any bad ones 😂 You will probably have fun with Boy Bands and Queen. The 3 a cappella groups are all amazing in their own right. Most are drawn to 1 more then the others. They also have Disney medleys as well. Looking forward to joining you on your VoicePlay journey😁

As far as acapella groups go Voice Play are theatrical...PTX are pop.....and Home Free are an everyman/neighbors. And all are AMAZING. Maybe they look good because they probably don't smoke so they can sing like they do.

Voice Play is fantastic at arranging medleys, many of which are Disney-themed. Some of my favorites are Moana, Little Mermaid, and Queen in Five Minutes. I think Tim and Geoff have pretty similar ranges, but Tim's drops tend to be background vocals, while Geoff's tend to be front and center in his solo lines; that may be why you feel like they are hitting you harder.

A short primer on the top 3 a cappella groups. Pentatonix - student council. Home Free - kegger in the parking lot. VoicePlay - music/theater geeks. If you love theatrical productions, you will love VoicePLAY. Be aware it’s a bit of a rabbit hole. If you listen to Hoist the Colors, be warned one reactor was so overcome he got up and left, forgetting he wasn’t wearing pants. Pants recommended on all their videos.

This was a great reaction! Voiceplay can be difficult to react to because the members change. Voiceplay right now consists of four guys, with other guests rotating in as needed. On the far left was the beatboxer, Layne, who also does the video production. Eli (pronounced Elly) is the guy with no hair, an amazing rock tenor voice, who also subs for the Bass singer (he has about a 5-octave range). Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci IS one of the best bass singers in the world. He also did the arrangement of this song as well as many others for Voiceplay (when he doesn't do the arrangement, Layne does...). Cesar de la Rosa is the newest member of the band and has a beautiful baritone/tenor voice as well as an amazing range and the ability to sing in character voice... he memorably sings 'KILL THE WITCH" in this arrangement. (Which is funny, because Geoff played Ursula the Sea Witch in the Little Mermaid Medly they did... check out how Geoff looks over at Cesar!) Emoni is an amazing soul singer brought in for this song, and then there is Rachel Potter, who has now done ten songs with Voiceplay. She has a perfect disney princess voice, and traveled with the Wicked traveling broadway show. For a lot of years there was a singer 'Earl' whose tenor voice and ability to sing in character is deeply missed, he left the band for personal reasons, but you should check out Queen in 5 minutes, or 'Mama Sang Bass' for the feels... Honestly, Voiceplay are the 'theatre kids' of the three acapella groups, and a LOT of their stuff is big theatre production. You are going to have a great time reacting to them, and I recommend 'Moana Medly' and 'The Little Mermaid Medly' as two of the best things on the internet. 'Hoist the Colors' and 'Halo' are two newer things that Voiceplay totally rocked, while if you want to geek out to Geoff's bass, check out 'Sixteen Tons' and 'Misty Mountains' and my favorite, 'Blackbird'. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next, thank you for this reaction!

Hi! Just subbed here. I love watching first time reactors get blown away by VoicePlay! It was so cute after you said this song is "7 minutes long!", then with Geoff's final note at the end, you were like, "aww...", as if you were disappointed that it was already over. I wholeheartedly second each recommendation other commenters proffer. My personal favorite is "Oogie Boogie's Song". If you haven't done any of Geoff's solo covers, please do. The quality, theatricality, and attention to detail is at the same level as VP's. Only it's all Geoff and his wife Kathy (who is also production coordinator and all around den mother and cat herder to VP) from start to almost finish. Final audio mix for both is Ed Boyer. That's part of the 'wall of sound' and primo audio production you hear. The blonde featured artist's name is pronounced E-Mahny, in case no one else posted that. Loved your reaction to this, now on to more #theaterkidsofacappella !

That was a great reaction! I only hope you fall deep into the rabbit hole that is Voiceplay! They've been through many members throughout the years, but they've been great for literally decades! The group first formed in 1997, far longer ago than Home Free or Pentatonix! There's a lot of experiance here and I can't wait to see what you react to from here! I strongly suggest Hoist the Colors though! My personal favorite

The women are the "features", the guys are VoicePlay. For a full costume, check out 2: Hoist the Colors (cover from Pirates if the Caribbean) and Hillbillies vs. Zombies, believe it was their season in The Sing Off ( same season as HF, it's HF vs. VP). I'm not sure that he's lower, but listen to the comparison that's on youtube between Geoff, Tim and Avi. These are the more theatrical of the 3 groups.

Geoff Castellucci is the bass, you're correct. He has a couple of tutorials on his solo channel on how to sing super low. You asked if there were any effects added to his lowest notes, in one of those tutorial videos he said that the only thing they do is filter out the extra breath sounds and really boost the volume, because no, it doesn't sound that strong without a mic. But they don't do anything more than that,

VoicePlay competed in Season 4 of The Sing-Off with 6 Members: Earl Elkins, Jr.(former member), Layne Stein, Eli Jacobsonn, Geoff Castellucci, Tony Wakim(former member) and Honey LaRochelle(former member). They placed 5th. Home Free won the season. The Group known as TEN as runner-up and where Emoni Wilkins came from. Check out VP's JUST SING video and you'll see most of the of the singers from Season 4, keep the caption on in that video. Thanks for reacting Mr. Saucey.

I understand. They do tend to leave people speechless. And wanting more. They are very versatile, singing in many styles. From Queen in 5 minutes to Boy Bands in 5 minutes, and so myuch in between. Emoni rhymes with coney or phoney, :) Geoff (Castellucci) is pronounced as Jeff, and Eli (Jacobson) is pronounced as elly. Eli (bald guy) used to sing in rock bands in the past. :). Layne (Stein) is the vocal percussion but sings too. The remaining and most recent member is Cesar de la Rosa. Follow VoicePlay and you'll up your subscribers, guaranteed. Yes they are beautiful too. The one you mentioned with a five octave range, is Geoff. I believe he and Tim (who are friends) are roughly the same as respects range, though it's usually agreed that Geoff's tone is much smoother. And he does solo low bass covers although he clones himself to make his own backing group for those. You'll understand once you see it. Geoff also reads short stories and poems with his soothing deep bass voice. Example: The Raven by Poe. :) And yes, they're good. Hoist The Colours is phenomenal. Can't Help Falling in Love is just beautiful. Warriors is different again.

VoicePlay guys are amazing and are more of a theatrical group, but some songs are similar to Home Free. What is great about both groups is that they are friendly and helpful. You can't go wrong with either of the groups. There is a song VoicePlay has a nice size group of people sing the song and Tim shows up and Geoff looks at him like what are you doing here. LOL It is...Just Sing...starts with two kids singing..funny watching Tim and Geoff looking at each other about 2 or 3 times. Great song also. Home Free Sing off Tour is fun with VoicePlay and Filharmonic. Thanks for reacting to VoicePlay they are fun and a little spooky and it is fun to see.
