I’m a HUGE Geto Boys fan! Grew up listening to their music. With that being said Scarface was 100% WRONG! They are a group so he should have at least gave Willie D a courtesy call if indeed he didn’t know he was going to be asked to perform Mind Playing Tricks! Even though Willie D probably couldn’t have made it. It’s a courtesy matter as far as I’m concerned especially if you’re my boy and we’re in a group. I think whoever called Scarface probably made it known that they didn’t want Willie there. But still if it’s my homeboy I’m going to let him know off GP. That’s just my opinion. Scarface is an undeniable GOAT! Even if Willie D didn't get to spit, he was supposed to be there. Scarface should have made sure that happened. Run AND DMC were there. Chuck AND Flav were there. Salt AND Peppa were there. Cool that they were able to talk about it but Scarface got a blind spot if he can't see it. We gotta do better y'all. Face is the better emcee but Will's verse was dope. Seeing this, Face looks like the Q-Tip of the group - amazing talent but probably difficult, eccentric and a handful. Will comes across as the more likable. Hope they mend this.
The Geto Boys were very classy. Respect for them being able to discuss their differences as grown men. I think Willie D should have been on that stage even if they didn't have time to do his verse. It would have been nice to see them both. Collectively...they ARE the Geto Boys. 🤘🏾
Scarface knows he’s wrong. And he was just sitting there acting surprised when Willie called him on it. Scarface could have called Willie and just said, “man I just found out they want me to perform our song, and it’s too late to change anything.” To just let Willie find out while watching it on TV was a shady move. But it’s great to see two grown men look each other in the eye and discuss it without any drama.
I find it highly unlikely with all the planning that goes into the Grammys to expect Scarface (or any any artist for that matter) to be notified and ready to perform any song in their entire catalog within 5 mins of showtime without no rehearsal or prep time.... Based on what I’ve heard from people that were around the industry back then, I don’t think Face and Big Mike got along too much either. He was a substitute for Willie D, and then went back to his solo career after Willie came back. Still Big Mike is one of my favorite artists though. Somethin and Still Serious are timeless classics.
