I enjoyed this video. Thanks B&H! Wish I could have caught it live, to ask how he controls lens flare when he wants it, and prevents flare when he doesn't want it while shooting with wide angle lenses.
Scott has a lot of good ideas in framing a photo, the use of colors and anything that can be a frame. I come more from a news style background and some of the photos where the subject is small is totally opposite of what a news photo would look like. Even with the bright red dress, the subject still gets lost in the photo. I do like the fact he told us about setting up a story with a photo of the background then closeup of the intended subject, like the one in Paris. But I wonder, will this appear in magazines for people to view. I can see that. But we have diverted too much from the printed media that all this seems moot. If we have Look or Life magazines in large format back, these photos would really tell a story. I would love to see a return of the big magazines, full of stories and colorful and attractive photos. I really miss those days.
Totally agree, portrait with wide angle does work, at leat outside or in a big studio cause you nee some space, and it just need some extra attention towards the corners and distortion. Place your subject in the middle or just left or right from it or .... crop later in post but IMO that is a bit cheating hehehe . Good vi and nice shots Thanks for sharing.
Indeed but if you only have a wide lens at your disposal you can shoot portraits but you have to back up a bit to avoid distortion. But that implies you have a lot of negative space around your subject so the a crop would be a sensible thing to do. @@antonroux6737
@@antonroux6737Haven't you ever been in a situation where you unexpectedly wanted to take a photo of something, but only had your camera and whatever lens that was already on it for some other purpose? Has definitely happened to me. I have been in situations where I only had my wide angle lens with me. So then it's nice to know how to use it best (the reason I watched this video), but also smart to keep in mind that you can crop later.
