There is a thing called the 1st Amendment it is in our Constitution incase you didn't know. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" . Now that is the law. So the government is breaking the law by violating the 1st Amendment right of the Constitution towards any church or church goer. Facts.

It is a world of emergency where he broke the law. The church doesn't make the laws the state does. Then church is not above the law. It is a COVID emergency and the law is against people meeting in large groups, period,. What do you think about the Americans who won't wear masks because thay say it is against their freedom, this is why we had and will have thousands of more deaths before it stops. It could have been much better by now if all people would have stayed home as much as possible, kept their distances and not met indoors with more than 5-6 people and worn a mask, but NOOOO, Freedumb above the life of others. This Minister didn't put the life of his people above his church, WHY? They can pray at home and wait for a few months more. Why not?

If this were persecution. Yes that statement would apply. This is dishonest reporting. He wasn’t prevented from preaching the gospel. He was violating bylaws and current health codes several times. All churches are open in Alberta. Our church is still preaching the gospel and yet abiding by health laws. I’ve been to James church, and my opinion is that he is responding out of pride. If anything he is violating God’s address to believers in submission to authority. Let’s differentiate between our perceived rights and what it means to follow Christ. One involves pride and the the second involves humility. Which one do you think builds equity to preach the gospel to a lost world?

Is it persecution if he disobeyed the law? His church could still technically meet online and there are multiple verses about obeying the authorities (Romans 13). I think the punishment was taken way too far, but he did still break the law.

He was allowed to have church services. He just refused to follow literally every public health order set in place in Alberta. He did not follow the capacity limits, did not enforce mask wearing and refused to talk to Alberta Health Services (AHS) AHS was willing to work with them but he refused.
