The Wiha Zai Hause 42 bit precision driver ESD set was something I thought was going to be a bit of an over the top version of a compact Ifixit set. But in usual Wiha fashion it has impressed me.

Bearing in mind it has proper stamped 4mm bits made from CR-V steel with magnets on the storage lid, bit storage and driver tip. This is a well thought out and nice to use tool. It gets a 9 out of 10 from TT and has been great to carry to and from work and use. It would get higher if there were no marks on the finish of the driver as I pointed out and the magnets of the storage lid could maybe be double strength.

Nice video. Important things first: Zai is a Chinese word which means "to be at a place" and Hause ist the German word for "home". So you can translate this two words as "to be at home" or "at home" or something like that. So your "DIY" assumption was right. But all Wiha Zai Hause products are more for DIY use and not industrial or heavy use. I think Zai Hause is a corporation between Xiaomi and Wiha but I am not sure. The homepage from wiha jus says "sister company zai Hause Technology in China". I have mixed feelings about the Zai Hause stuff. I have also this set and the yellow bit holder does not have the quality you would expect from wiha. The magnets in the box are nice but the plastics appears to be a little bit thin and cheap. I have this set in a very small toolbox which contains all important tools for small repairs. It contains all important bits that you need to open small devices like notebooks or other electronic devices. I have not used it much, so I can not say much about the quality and durability of the bit. But the price was more then OK for the number of bits.

This is an excellent description of the naming thank you, i have pinned your comment to the top. I agree on the bit holder there are a few marks on it and it looks like Wiha but feels like something slightly less. Price wise you are right its Wiha name but not excessive price. I now have a large number of these style kits and i would say the Wiha here is up there at the top in terms of me wanting to use it regularly.

You have every right to find and look for quality issues. wiha is known for quality. This is a wiha tool but if you look closely, you can see inconsistencies and that should definitely be called out It seems they are trying to cut corners on certain tools.

Now that looks the set to buy. Wiha make fantastic bits and the case appeals to the boy in me for some reason

Love it as well it feels nice top open and close. Magnets just work so well with nothing to snap and break. So far so good the heads I've used are still working well. I have a nice Wiha stubby which also have very good heads on it so I expect these to last a long time.

Thanks very much I'm glad it was helpful for you. If you have any questions just give me a shout. This set is still working great for me i usually use this if i cant get to my PB Swiss rack on the desk. Usual Wiha quality bits which show no sign of grinding down or anything like that so far.

Hello, sorry for asking here. I want to start working on some electronic devices repairs (I'm in Europe if it makes a difference) and I have a small budget for a kit that would hopefully last for a while. Would you recommend this one over ifixit moray kit, or maybe you know some other set? Because I see a lot of those cheaper 100 in 1 but I doubt about the quality. Thank you

Im happy top help. Here is what i think. This set if the money isnt too silly is excellent. It isnt too big but just right, the bits are high quality and i feel like this will last. the ESD handle avoids any static discharge damage if you are working on highly sensitive electronics. The Ifixit Moray is fine but the handle isnt as good as this one. Also the case is better on this compared to the Ifixit. If you need a kit that has a ton of bits and very cheap you could look at the Jakemy 180 in 1. I have a review up for that at the weekend its very cheap but gives you loads of bits. In terms of quality i think the Ifixit bits are ok, the Wiha bits are best and the Jakemy bits are just ok. I hope this is helpful what sort of thing will you be working on as you may want to consider sets with JIS heads if you work on electronics.

@@TrailTrek Thanks a lot, fortunately or not I've bought ifixit kit as it was in the local store, unlike Wiha zai Hause, which I found only on AliExpress from one seller. Since I had quite a small budget and had to buy some other things, ifixit kit was just right for its price. Hopefully I'd be able to try out other products in the future and expand my tools collection, for which I will definitely use advices from your videos. Thanks again and good luck in making more fair and professional content!

I love those internal magnets holding the bits in, I will take those over plastic friction holders every day. However I'm not a fan of the magnets being the only way the case closes. I have lost all the bits out of a 1/4 socket set that was latched closed in the car, from moving around and opening, so the magnets are great if it sits on your desk, not so great to chuck in a tool bag or leave in the car or something. Ideally I'd like over centre latch, since I haven't had one of them come apart on me, also with magnets so you can use just magnets or also close the latch. But ifixit and all the other kits seam to be only magnets so seams to just be what everyone does now. Apart from me being very picky with it closing the rest of it looks great, has more bits than I think I would need, which is much better than not enough. I'm loving this series on precision drivers, once it's over I'll have to pick the one I think will work best for me and get it

I do like the mags inside as well it just take away that fear of wearing down the plastic away for me. But you are right the magnets to close it are the same issue I saw on the small IFIXIT set. They work fine but I can just see the lid getting knocked and then a right mess in my bag. Where I have it now its pressed on each side of the bag so it will be fine but you don't always have the option of a perfect tight place to fit these sets. I wonder if the reason so many sets now use the magnet method is because its easier for them to have 4 magnets pushed into the corners instead of having a more complex design with more parts and more assembly? there will be some reason for it, or they think it looks cooler. I have 2 more sets on the way to look at and a large set from IFIXIT. So about 3 more to go then I should have covered most of the well known and a few not so well known sets. At least when you pick one you know im giving you honest reviews of each one and actually using them at home and work to test for issues. Also im really enjoying testing them all :-)
