The original came out in May 2023 I believe, this just came out on January 31st, 2024 and I’d say Part III will come out in November for the Wii U’s 12th anniversary. The Switch 2 might be out by then and that’s the Wii U’s successor’s successor.
the fact that this still isn’t the end is insane. you can really tell that since scott lived through the wii u era so intently & focused on the console he has so much more of a connection to this era of nintendo
this is the next hyped up stranger things finale episode for about 2 hours and 24 minutes deep dive into the lore of the wii u games for the last decade (i didn't bought a wii u because my mom never got me interested)
These videos about the Wii U really put into perspective how the Switch and the marketing Nintendo did for it were them learning from all of their mistakes from the Wii U era
@@D3D3Ddespite my hype, I still wanted a WiiU, finally getting it in Christmas of 2016. I had my fun with it and still play it in from time to time. But I’m glad I did that, since as a gift for finishing high school, I finally got a Switch in 2020. And it was the revised version with a longer battery life. I’d say, I got the Switch at pretty much the perfect time.
They tried as hard as possible to not recreate that mess. But I kinda like how shitty those ads are. It is a "It’s so bad it’s good” situation. Especially the Amiibo ad where a kid wants to impress a girl he wants to frick.
Yeah. Mother and Mother 2/Earthbound were both notable when they came out, but they really show their age. Mother 3 though? That game feels right at home with the indie games it helped inspire like Lisa: The Painful (2014) and Undertale (2015), so 2013 was the perfect time for Nintendo to rerelease it! Which is why they released it for Wii U Virtual Console in 2016. In Japan only.
@@No-Ink my cartridge disappeared somehow, my dad bought it when I was like 1 and basically gave up video games right after lol, it's probably the greatest single thing I've ever lost
The episode technically doesn't start until start until 2:23:23 when Scott says "Hey all, Scott here!". Crazy how Scott can upload a 48 second video and it still be a banger 🔥🔥🔥
why scott never talked about the croods game based on an animated movie? i hope in the next wii u saga. scott finally talked about the croods or just simply talk shit about new nintendo games to come out on the fucking shit ass nintendo console from 2015 to downfall year 2017
"This game doesnt have great 3D exploration" is a crazy opinion though. 100%ing the game is so much fun if you go district by district and you really breath in the 3D modelling that went into the city and all of its roof top areas, the little parks nestled between Skyscrapers, its underground passages, worldbuilding found in the areas etc.
Scott is the reason I became obsessed with collecting Wii U games and stuff. Anytime I run into a retro game store, anyone I talk to about it always dunks on the Wii U but from my childhood experiences and hearing Scott’s I’ll always have a special place for the Wii U in my heart
People act like it was some sort of console from hell but the Wii U was a super fun time. It's seriously one of my favourite consoles of all time, I don't really care if it didn't stand up to its competitors or if it had a bad release schedule. It was fun and at the end of the day, that's _really_ what makes a video game console good.
To me, it's simply the best console of this millennium. Bought it originally for Zelda (yes, because FU money - why would I need a console anyway?) then I discovered all the fun local multiplayer titles. It's just something different having friends over for smash or mario kart than playing online on the PC. Then I discovered all the other fun Wii u titles (there weren't many, but things like Fatal Frame stand out). And then all the Wii and GCN titles I missed out on since I never had those consoles. And then Nintendo brought PC Engine titles to the Virtual Console. Gameplay on the pad reminds me of the Atari Lynx I once had.
I love how the Wii U library is so pitifully small that you have to keep shuffling in games you just talked about to fill up more space when talking about multiple games
I can't believe Scott went into the 10th layer of hell just to fish up the last remaining Wii U in existence in order to continue making this series. Really love his dedication, god bless
As a person who endured the Wii U era exactly the same, this is soooo good. Well done, interesting, and really does a good job showing the highs and lows. I think it's important to emphasize the absolute HYPE around the PS4 going on simultaneously. The general population weren't even looking at the Nintendo aisle in a Walmart.
There was a hype around the PS4? When it was released I saw that it was just a PC. No "other OS" like the PS3. I immediately dismissed it. (not that I dislike sony, I still have my PSP Slim, which is great)
There was less hype around the ps4 than the switch, and the switch has had only a decent amount of it. This is when the “sweaty virgin gamer” stereotype that emerged in the 7th gen was solidified, gaming was still quite unpopular
@@JohnSmith-fq3rg I have a theory that Nintendo in house, struggled to great games for Wii U and 3ds. The Switch feels like an all hands on deck situation.
hearing Scott the Woz talk about Rayman Legends sparks joy into my heart, this game is my entire childhood, countless hours playing this game with my sibling, having fun killing each other, having a great time doing the music levels, celebrating beating a hard boss. Every part of Rayman Legends will always be in my heart as one of the greatest games
Wii-U is 100% a huge success in the macro view. It was a salesman’s sample field test prototype of an earlier iteration of the SWITCH. And switch by mid 2025 will have eclipsed PS2 “unattainable” #1 alltime sales position.
I wouldn’t call it a prototype, I’d call it the last and greatest of the old Nintendo that would lead directly to the massive success of the Switch and a whole new Nintendo.
this is why scott suffers talking about nintendo a lot and they suffers stuttering speech talking about stupid nintendo games A LOT FOR 2 HOURS! 2 HOURS! (i'm talking to you gideon graves)
The Dark Age of Nintendo was completely different, it covered 3 of Nintendo’s worst games from 2015 to 2016 on both the Wii U & 3DS/2DS. This series on the other hand is simply covering just the Wii U’s entire history, both negative and positive. Same time period yes same series no.
Being a huge Nintendo fan during the Wii U era was traumatic. Constantly anticipating something incredible to be announced and being disappointed with nothing or delays. I was sold on it with the announcement of Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, plus the reveal of "Zelda Wii U". After Splatoon came out, I was waiting for the console to either die and also for Breath of the wild to come out. 2016 was probably the worst yet. It's crazy how all that made the Wii U community feel more personal and passionate, and has maintained that long after it's death.
One of the several reasons i love scott the woz is he releases a movie length youtube video and manages to make it more quality, funnier, and less monetized than half the movies you'd go to see in a theater nowadays. Which is why i think we should show a scott the woz video in a movie theater.
this is why i don't going to the movie theater because all modern movies sucks ass. oppenheimer? boring. barbie? nada! madame web? WOKE! the marvels? MEDIOCRE! the new mad max movie!? FUCK OFF!
scott the woz is now acting like a demonic baby talking about nintendo in each episode because i was getting goosebumps on scott's impression on nintendo wii u downfall until scott is in a coma talking and bantering about nintendo for 2 hours. 2 hours and 24 minutes long
The dichotomy between Scott’s love and happiness flowing out of him is such a stark contrast to well… a not very good system. True love and passion for what’s being talked about , while tears roll down his cheeks at what could have been.
Scott never ceases to impress me with his humor. Even a quote like "Oh my God, it's that statement's evil twin!" [from the part of this video where he talks about Wii Fit U and Wii Sports] is somehow random, yet intelligent at the same time. It's such a perfectly 'Scott the Woz' thing to say.
Just want to say i really appreciate that all of Scotts funny memeable clips are actually him doing something and not just an insert of a random show or movie character doing something. That is so overplayed and its refreshing to see Scott continue to be original.
I’ve thought this many times as well. What keeps me coming back to Scott’s channel is how dedicated he is to creating his own iconic cutaways and comedic skits, using only him and his friends. Even when he does use game play footage to make a joke, he always seems to use his own gameplay.
Loving this series so far! Although the Wii U failed, the feeling of community it brought was unrivaled. Owning a Wii U was like being apart of a club, as Scott states in the video, the only people that owned a Wii U for the most part we’re Nintendo fans, and it felt amazing when Nintendo delivered time after time with software, until eventually it dwindled out in favor of the switch (which is also amazing) But man, being a Nintendo fan during this time really was awesome, as much as it was devastating.. I’m looking at you Metroid..
1:05:43 You gushing about the Wind Waker HD kept a wide smile across my face the whole segment. The Wii U Version has become my favorite game of all time and its always a joy to hear the thousands of people that have also stated it's high strengths!
*it's always (contraction of "it is" or "it has") *its high strengths (possessive pronoun) All contractions have apostrophes. Possessive pronouns never do.
Scott is one of the most creative, clever, and professional youtubers I've ever seen. Even when he goes months without uploading I still never hesitate to call him my favorite youtuber. Hats of to Scott and the rest of his team for continuing to create the highest quality content possible.
Hey Great video Scott! You did amazing with this my man! Well, really, every video you make is timeless, but I mean with this one in particular, being over 2 hours long, nearly 2 and a half, you outdone yourself my man. Props and kudos to you. Enjoy this comment as my gratitude. 👍❤️
I had to burst out laughing at the SMT x Fire Emblem trailer snipets here, because holy shit, I forgot just *how much* false advertising the game had. Like. Like none of those characters they showed off in that panning shot are in it. Literally none of them.
I love Wii Fit U, so seeing Scott rave about it in front of thousands of people makes me happy that people are learning about this game's true quality.
Still thinking about buying it. It's one of the few titles I don't have, because buying the clunky wii fit board that only works with this game would suck if I wouldn't play it.
Eh not really. The Wii U had games like Splatoon and the most of the games were superior on there anyway. By that definition the NES and SNES would have sold poorly because of the GameBoy. The Wii U sold badly due to other reasons like marketing and the situation of Nintendo’s audience.
@@ianeons9278 But considering the controller that was the 3DS, most games were not fun to play (Monster Hunter, Zelda, any game that required a second joystick)
Not really. Never had a 3DS. Already had a PSP and a DSi. And the 3DS couldn't connect to the TV. It also lacked all of the capabilities of the Wii U, it couldn't play Wii and Wii U games and you couldn't sit with multiple people around it to play.
You can acctully see the progression Nintendo is making trough the years in this video. Not saving the WiiU but more so learning and movin the company into new grounds
@@toucanroombas I have a theory that Nintendo in house, struggled to great games for Wii U and 3ds. The Switch feels like an all hands on deck situation.
Back in 2013 my Wii broke and my mom wanted to get a replacement and since the Wii U played Wii games, she thought it was a good deal. My dad liked that it was in HD
The Wii is upgraded GameCube hardware. It's something Nintendo picked up a bit of a habit of. The Game Boy Color is an upgraded Game Boy, the DSi is an upgraded DS, the New 3DS is an upgraded 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch's successor follows that pattern.
@@SnakebitSTI Exactly. This is also why we know that the Switch is primarily a mobile console. It's based on the ARM architecture which has been introduced with the GBA and retained ever since. The Switch has technologically nothing in common with the GCN/Wii/Wii U.
@@svr5423 Honestly, given the state of console hardware, I wouldn't object to even non-mobile consoles focusing more on efficiency at this point. Generational improvements just aren't wowing me like they used to, while consoles are getting bigger and louder. As for mobile, well, messing about with old handhelds has reminded me how wonderful it is to not have to worry about remembering to plug in your handheld over night.
@@SnakebitSTI In my view, the generational improvements have been toned down because game developers are unable to keep up with Hardware development. It doesn't make much sense to release a new, costly and potent hardware when the games cannot make use of it. I'm not short of budget, but my PC, which is also used for 4k gaming, is now almost 9 years old. I've also noticed consoles getting bigger. The PS5 at my clients' is humongous. Louder is just a result of cooling. Consoles typically don't use maintenance-heavy and fragile watercooling like PCs do, and when they are small, they need to produce fast air flow. Fortunately, power requirements are coming down with more efficient hardware. I also agree with you, currently it is a goal to become more efficient, both for PCs and consoles.
scott the woz is like christopher nolan but they filmed on the same house with blue background and some goodies on a 2 hours and 24 minutes longer than the final season episode of stranger things 4 and now it ended on a darker ending because stranger things never fucking ends for like i'm getting older in the next 20 years
That's pretty normal for RU-vid though. The only two choices for video content these days are either videos that are less than thirty seconds, or things that are really bloody long, like LS Mark's TV retrospectives, Jay Exci's big Doctor Who video, that massive Bomberman video that took me over a week to watch, and this.
@TheSmart-CasualGamer no you're right, I just like hyping up the people I like to a hyperbolic extent. I too consume a lot of long form content when I'm on RU-vid not just scott lmao
Tik tok is so bland and I hate how companies try to push this video that I wanna watch 30 second trash. No I want to watch 8 hour long video essays on games I’ve never played thank you very much.
Me at 1:30AM: Well probably should go to bed soon. RU-vid: There is a new Scott The Woz. Me who is about to stay awake an extra two and a half hours: God Damnit.
WE BANISHED US FOR WATCHING THE NEW SCOTT THE WOZ MOVIE FOR 2 HOURS AND 24 MINUTES LONGER THAN ANY BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE EVER (madame web, mission impossible, top gun maverick etc etc)
39:57 Coincidentally, I too played Sketch today with my family. It's a hassle to plug back the gamepad every time we dust it out, but goddamn the fun is worth it!
10 years later i'm still quitting watching dumb anime shows instead just binged watch every scott the woz videos talking about nintendo and listening to video game music a lot than most dumbass tik tok music and radio stations gets me irritating a little bit...
Man, this was the generation where I just felt embarrassed to be a Nintendo fan. The 3DS had some *amazing* games that I had a great time playing with my Navy shipmates and still look back on fondly. ... but I wanted nothing to do with the Wii U. It's the only Nintendo home console I avoided like the plague in my 30 years of existence.
I’m personally going to disagree with you about the 3DS/2DS and Wii U. The 3DS/2DS had tons of great games but if you ask me the Wii U is better because it has games like that but even better and more features as well.
I'm guessing you're not familiar with or are younger than the Virtual Boy. And I would say the 64 DD, but that was such a failure that few people outside Japan even knew it existed.
The fact that this man made a retrospective on the Wii U that is longer than most feature films, and it’s only one of 3, speaks to the bright future of cinema
