it’s almost as if he has unlimited money from youtube and doesn’t have to constantly work himself to the bone everyday and can actually live a good life, making a video whenever he wants now… oh wait
Recently got back on my feet after becoming homeless in 2020. This video came at such a good time I just got my apartment and been missing games dearly. I'll check this out.
I know your comment is a month old, but this video is mostly jokes and memes. If you want actual advice on how to game on a budget, I posted a comment here but I’d also suggest you look for other resources elsewhere
emulating games are a god send, playing classic games you like for free is great and if you want to play ROMs or anything of the sort hacking and loading with emulators are very simple!
37:15 I know a guy who has no Switch but LOVES his Wii U and still plays and buys games for it. He has it hooked up to a big ass projector in his party basement and good lord the 4 player Mario Kart that was played was glorious. You don't need the newest consoles. Just play whatever's fun!
if you get the switch mario kart you get a full battle mode, new characters, DLC tracks included, some tweaks, and If you spend 25$ or have Nintendo switch online expansion pass, you get 48 more courses, and more characters
@@glitchyaceofficialbut like, the switch is expensive and fragile (and heavy) and you can't play wii games on it, and if the guy mentioned is anything like me the only real benefit to buying deluxe would be the tweaks to gameplay I bought my wii u second hand and whoever had owned it previously had bought the dlc, so i got it for free anyways. I exclusively play as one character, I think battle mode is lame, and I don't care about playing online--and if I did it would be cheaper and easier to try to set up pretendo than it would be to try to manage a subscription service Also I'm pretty sure the twenty five tracks you mentioned aren't new; they're ported from the mobile game. I remember hearing somebody complain about their poor quality compared to the rest of the tracks. (Edit: I've been told that the information in this last paragraph is false. However, I still don't feel like spending upwards of 400 dollars on a game and console I bought for 150) yeah, i think I'll stick with my commercial failure of a console, thanks
@@glitchyaceofficialno shit, this dude just explained his friends scenario in which he still had a fun time instead of paying $300 for a switch, $60 for the game, another $25 for expansion. He’s having fun with what he’s got
@@hello-xm5il There are about 8 brand-new tracks in the booster course expansion pack. There are also about 8 tracks ported from Tour. The rest of them are ports from other previous games, to varying levels of quality. I like them, but YMMV. They aren't all from Tour though, not sure what's given you that impression; I don't think Tour even had 40 tracks to begin with.
The Yakuza series 100% belongs in this kinda conversation. ~40 hour crime dramas loaded with fun side missions and minigames, including both original minigames and Sega classics (primarily their arcade offerings, some of which are only officially playable at home in Yakuza games!), sometimes including different playable characters to shake things up, with the bulk of the series going super cheap during sales.
eh. you can say that about a lot of games. i saw fallout 4 for a dollar at a used game store, and that's an ~80 hour rpg, not counting replays for alternate endings and the pip-boy minigames.
It’s so funny that “Bootleg Gaming Christmas” canonically takes place in March, and this episode, which basically continues from that story, is also in March because it took so long to come out
The only reason Tloedo has so many game stores is definately because Scott's single handedly keeping them afloat himself. I wouldn't be surprised if the employees see him as some sort of superhero over there.
I don't know now after the emulator talk which I think retro store owners may hate. Though I agree with Scott about how emulators make gaming accessible
"Manager, there's this guy who bought last year's Madden three times. Today. Again. ...Smiling." "And I didn't see you polish his shoes. You're on thin ice, new guy."
For people that really are on a budget, only have a pc and don't mind older games, here is a better list that will give you an insane amount of time and fun for your money. Half Life 1 and 2 (as well as Sven Co-op which is completely free.) - Like a million of custom maps, campaigns, puzzle maps, horror maps, shitpost maps and so much more Doom 1 and 2 - A lifetime of custom maps, campaigns and weapons that you can run on any shitbox Amnesia Dark Descend - The horror game to have, with its peak popularity in the 10s it has a very big supply of custom campaigns that are sometimes even better than the original Garry's Mod - Definitely more multiplayer oriented (online is free on pc so you are fine), it has a giant community that offers absolutely everything, sandbox servers where you can screw around with hl physics, fun gamemodes like prop hunt and trouble in terrorist town, as well as a thousand RP servers and other gamemodes. If you and your friends can only get a single game to play for the rest of your lives, this is definitely it. Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky - Great atmospheric apocalyptic survival games that have again an insane modding scene, people make full on new games from these mods giving you wild slav hardcore survival sims Nethack, Angband, ToME and so many more (almost all of them are free as they are technically still mods of rogue) - oldschool roguelikes that have so many details put into them, that you can truly achieve almost any interaction that comes to mind when exploring the dungeons. Dwarf Fortress - I dont even know what to say, this is a simulation in which you command dwars to build expand and survive, the game is so indepth that it can pretty much generate an entire movie plot for you if you just leave it go by itself. Minecraft and Terraria - the kings of sandbox building games, terraria is definitely more boss oriented while minecraft is exploration and building. again these are games with giant modding communities that can completely change the games into something new. probably the most infinitely repayable. There are countless more examples that I just can't think of but if you really have no money, getting an older pc that can run games till 2016-18 you can still run almost all of these examples flawlessly and you will definitely have a great time. Love you Scott, but I love your fear of PC even more.
4:30 Scott fun fact, the Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 demo has a glitch during the Switch controller set up screen that lets you back out and select the other locked game modes. theyre all fully playable in the demo.
Just a note on FFXIV - when you hit level 70 the game doesn't cut you off or anything, you can keep playing but you just can't access the main story from level 70 onwards. You could even go level all the other playable jobs on your character up to lvl 70, hunt for relic weapons, finish all the raids, get into crafting and gathering materials or fishing etc etc before paying for the game, that's hundreds of hours of content! It's a pretty solid free trial.
Yeah, I've known people who played the game for over a year before they felt the need to pay. It's basically just the base game plus the first two expansions for completely free, you even get the new jobs added with those expansions like Dark Knight and Samurai. It's like 75% of the content in the game. And there's usually still players doing the older raids and dungeons from those earlier expansions.
@@Everdistance Now that it has blue mage because of stormblood, you could even join a static and do some raids because the blu scene is so active still.
@@lolmasterwastaken2 yeah that's fine, I just thought I'd add context so folks don't get the wrong idea :) nothing wrong with not being an RPG, or MMORPG, guy.
A lot of your videos are informative but many come off as more like trivia, like "that's a cool fact" and stuff like that (while also being hilarious of course). This one really feels like a genuine guide and its really cool. Really fun to watch as always and would recommend this as an informational video to someone who felt like they couldn't get into gaming for monetary reasons
Some of the personal info Scott shared in this video was tragic. My heart goes out to him. I’ve been where he’s at in life and I know it’s terrible, but things can improve. And that’s not just him, everyone with that issue needs to remember one thing: You can get out of Toledo too. Happy April Fool’s day.
He tried to sell Wii Plays separately, stole a copy of Madden 18, try to sell bootlegs, someone stole his knife and put Rex in critical condition, played emulated games…
Even tho Scott is in this weird universe where he doesn't have a RU-vid channel and just talks to himself, he's still reached the point every RU-vidr reaches where he shits all over his old videos.
PAUSE 35:00 Scott, thank you so much for advocating libraries in this video. I'm lucky enough to live near a county library. That has very good funding. And they've got like selections of all sorts of consoles. It's actually astounding. But like to everyone watching this video. Please go to your local library and get a card. If they don't have video games, they might have comic books and if they don't have comic books, they just have books which are also fun. Everyone watching this video. Please go get your library card because you deserve it and libraries are f****** awesome.
I just made a huge comment on this same subject. I LOVE my local libary and it gives me the opportunity to rent SO many games I'd never have the money to buy
Yes. I found out that my local branch doesn't have video games... But the branch next town over does! And because we're part of the same system I can reserve games and have them sent to my library. Now as long as nobody dumps the game files via the MIG switch dumper everything is awesome.
YES!!! I didn’t grow up rich, but I played so many good games on my consoles growing up because my parents always took me to the library. I still play some WiiU and 3DS games I get from there to this day! :)
Important note on the PS3: there are a *lot* of games that are permanently trapped there. The only way to play them otherwise is through that Playstation streaming service.
Didn't even make some backwards compatible like Microsoft did with some Xbox 360 & og Xbox games. Can't wait to see the crazy prices if Sony ever does shut down the PS3 digital store.
in the early 2000s, i used to be able to play PC titles borrowed from my library. stuff like myst, grim fandango, age of empires, icewind dale, ceasar, the total war series. etc. i think they also had ps1 games available. it was a huge lifesaver for me, as i was only able to buy only a few tjtles (on sale, too) for my PS2, but i still wanted to play as much games i could get my hands on! i played the hell out of my demo discs when i got a subscription for playstation magazine for a year or so as well. when i later got a nintendo ds lite, i got a flash cart as soon as i could, and i played so, so many games that way (thanks to romsites). i enjoyed my DS so much that i broke the hinge twice just from regular usage. this video is truly a great guide to people who don't really follow the games industry on a constant basis but still want to play games or want to catch up on old titles.
Aight so since the last episode, lost my job, got a new one, lost my relationship, didn’t get a new one, and I’ve discovered what depression TRULY feels like. Good to see ya again, Scott.
This is the sequel to the "Scott's Game Collection" video, where he states multiple times that owning so many games starts to take the fun out of collecting, and that he honestly wouldn't mind getting rid of it all (baring some childhood favorite) and starting all over.
@@Gloomdrake Thank you. I know he said the whole jail thing at the start, but I couldn't help thinking back to the episode about collecting and thinking "Wow, he actually went through with it".
Just want to inform people that almost any subscription service will let you cancel immediately after subscribing and still let that month continue, it will just cancel at the end of it. This works for free trials also. You never have to remember to unsubscribe if you do it literally directly after subscribing in the same sitting.
Skate 3 was fun when it came out, then it became the #1 game to play when your xbox live subscription ran out, and now its still the best lay back and chill game to play when you really gotta just pass time. Seriously a timeless game
If you're a PC gamer, another good thing to consider is stuff like Steam's Spring, Summer, and Winter sales, G2A, Humble bundles, Green Man Gaming, and GOG. All these places do games at reduced prices a lot or in big bundles that will end up being cheaper bought together
It's surprising great to be a PC gamer. I grab the occasional bundle on Humble Bundle. But since they changed ownership the donations to charity dropped significantly.
fr bro and the funniest part is bro doesnt even have a rank ☠ i checked his xbox profile(the console and username he hit the clip on), bro hadnt played a single comp match in regular playlists and had no peak rank lmao
Buying used games in Japan is so freaking cheap and a lot of fun. After spend 6 month in Japan I bought over 80 games across Playstation consoles and it was only like $300cad. So fun
For I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:3
The dedication of Scott to the bit of refilling his game collection by taking down a sizeable portion of it from the shelf to only put it back up bit by bit is astounding. Just a little detail I noticed watching and that was cool.
@@thatboi1567 lol dude I have a 980ti and a 2nd gen ryzen cpu. I can play anything worth playing right now. try looking up basically any tech youtuber sometime building a pc. I think linus made one for the price of a ps5 recently that ran better than a ps5.
I still have my ps2 and stoped using it's laser for DVDs in preservation and to play games with freemcboot and the micro SD card adapter mc2sio I can play games that are expensive af and on real hardware
Miitopia’s demo on the Switch is great. Sure, you only get access to part of the first world, you ALSO get access to the full Mii Maker. And the Mii Maker in that game is where I got a lot of enjoyment from that game.
Seeing comments about his lack of posts but, is anybody else just happy and grateful? His writing is amazing and you gotta assume he isn't just doing nothing, surely he's doing something else with his time, if not? Just glad he's well. 🎉
Garage Sales/Goodwill gaming finds- Those are a thing of the past but they were real once upon a time. Mostly late 90s/early 2000s when parents would jump dump every cartridge or accessory in their homes.
@MegaMicah12 I think you misread the post, they were talking about finding something really good at goodwill or a garage sale for cheap. These days people know that games can be worth a lot on yhe secondhand market, and goodwill just puts all of the desirable games they get onto their website at the normal going rate for that game. The age of finding a PS1 and 10 classic games for a steal has been over for a while.
Yeah it started going bad in 2007. For a very short while you could still find amazing thrift deals with PS2 and Xbox. Then those started going away as well.
@@MegaMicah12 same thing here in New Jersey lol once it gets nice weather wise there will 100% be yard sales and there's always a goodwill/other thrift stores throughout
When it comes to gaming on a budget these days an important thing to think about is that generally since late ps3/360 actual development in games has stagnated a HUGE amount, so unless you care immensly about every graphical difference or are really into multiplayer only titles the actual quality of the games really hasn't changed that much, you could argue it's not really changed at all when you consider half the releases on ps5 are just remakes of ps3 games with little to no gameplay differences, it's not the same as it was 30 years ago where every few years the power difference between consoles was enough to go from the original zelda to a link to the past, for most genres the amount of value you get out of a single game and the quality of the actual gameplay hasn't really improved that much since the early 2000s
Yeah he kinda glances over it but all the games the have been remade a ton were never fun in the first place they are just good at gaslighting people repeatedly. Especially skyrim.
@@nathanieljones8043 *good for their time It's really easy to look back at something you once loved and call it a waste of time. People change, Among Us felt great for a couple months but now it's insufferable cringe. Everything is relative, games may only appeal to you at a specific phase in your life. So many games you hate on announcement you might've loved in a different setting.
Yakuza/Like a Dragon are some of my go-tos for a single game you can get a lot of content out of. Not only are they on their own pretty chunky main campaigns + tons of side content like side quests or casino games, they're also often compilations games all on their own. Newer titles not only have a decent selection of actual Sega Arcade games, some of which have haven't been re-released in years, but some of the games even have a collection of Sega Master System games you can find and play in their entirety.
RGG games go on sale CONSTANTLY so there's really no point in buying them full price unless it's, like, the latest one. Side note, but in my experience, collections of old games also get insane discounts, see: The Bioshock Collection, The Mass Effect Collection, The Portal Collection, The Ace Attorney Collection. It's great if you missed out on any of these series.
@@thanatoastmanaged to snag the valve collection on steam for around £20, I mean that's after a sale AND a price reduction because I had a few of them already but getting the others for quite cheap was nice.
This feels like a combination of several previous videos while still being its own thing. I really appreciated the call-backs without getting distracted with references.
For mobile gamers, this may not work on everything but every pre-installed game on my phone can be run at 100% capacity on airplane mode. Which turns off ads.
