Hey Jose. For some of the places I visit, I don’t want the names to be on a public forum like RU-vid, as my purpose is for people to do their own research and discover these places, just like I did. Just putting the name out there could very likely attract the wrong kind of people to a place like this (I’m not saying this about you). So, with a little research of the Eastern Sierra along the 395, you will eventually find this place and many, many more ☺️

@@UntilJourneysEnd thanks for keeping these places unnamed. It took some of us many many years of exploring the eastern sierras to find places like this and there’s not many left.

@@UntilJourneysEnd What a perfect and kind answer. Don't ever name the places you go unless it's ridiculously obvious. I like how you roll even though I never keep trout...especially wild ones. You use the fish you keep to literally fuel yourself. And it is MEANINGFUL for you. So I subscribe!

Nice catch. I like how you don't let anything go to waste. I never thought about cooking and eating the fish eggs. I will have to try it next time I go fishing. When you ate the tail end, are you eating the actual fin itself? I look forward to your upcoming March fishing trips. Be safe and enjoy.
@UntilJourneysEnd

Trout/salmon eggs are HIGH in omega 3’s and vitamin D! So if you’re lookin for good clean energy out in the mountains, eggs are a solid way to go. Yes, so the fish tail (when fried throughly) becomes crispy just like a chip and it has a great texture and taste!

Great video! Your professionalism is obvious. I share them with a brother in Minnesota who passes them onto his buddies. Nothing but good reviews! Just wondering… Do you scale your fish before frying?
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd Год назад
Thank you man. I’m so glad you guys are enjoying the channel, from Minnesota!!! I’ve heard only great things about that state….I can’t wait to visit! For trout, I never scale them because their skin crisps up real nice in a pan with butter and gives a great texture with every bite. What I found with Browns was that their skin was thicker but still totally edible. I could see people not liking that, in which case the meat easily slides right off the skin after you cook it.
@jblocker6613
@jblocker6613 Год назад
Nice video!! Do you remove the scales at all before cooking? I have seen people scraping the scales of before cooking. I have never tried eating the skin before but might give it a try. I like how you fish with both fly and spinning rod. Glad I discovered your channel!!
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd Год назад
The scales on trout are much smaller than warm water fish like bass or carp, so when the skin is cooked the scales become a nice crispy crunch along with the meat. The bigger the trout the bigger the scales, so some people start scaling their trout if it’s over 16inches. But I’ve eaten trout 17inches and the skin was still good without scaling! In the end, it comes down to personal preference…try both methods out and see which one you like! Glad you found the channel brotha…welcome!!! 🙌🏻🎣

Are you using two files at once? How are you rigged up like that?
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd Год назад
Yes! I’m using what’s called the “dry dropper” setup. Underneath the dry fly you tie directly onto the hook about a 2ft leader (or however deep you want to go) and then you tie on your perdigon/nymph of choice. The trick is making sure the perdigon/nymph is small enough so that it doesn’t sink your dry fly.

What is the brand of the first knife you used to cut trout?
@UntilJourneysEnd
@UntilJourneysEnd Год назад
It was a cheap knife I bought from REI, but I no longer use it and can’t recommend it. The blade loses it’s edge very easily :/
@daledavis5593
@daledavis5593 Год назад
Using treble hooks is a no no,so cut off 2 hooks,because the chance that the fish your releasing are going to the bottom and dying are high

What brand was your spinning rod on this video?
@UntilJourneysEnd

The rod was an Okuma SST 5’ 6” and the reel was the Okuma Epixor 1000!
