Small note for anyone doing the WHW (as of last year anyway) the no camping zone is sign posted on the trail and covers from about mile 16 to mile 31 if memory serves me correctly ,so you can stop just before conich hill (mile 15 ish) and wild camp. There is also a paid campsite just before Rowardennan (about mile 25) right next to the loch which we paid for at the site without booking. There is options and as it’s a popular trail help and guidance is never far away. You can pick up a map fairly cheap and although it’s probably not required as the trail is well marked it does help you identify places to stop etc.

Another great video packed with lots of information, all which is really helpful. Just wondering if you have any advice on Ticks? I recently went to Scotland wild camping (left no traces). I was unfortunate that we camped where there were Ticks present and I did get bitten by a tick and I believe that there are some still in my tent bag. How can I get rid of them from your tent and camping gear? Many thanks
Scotland is overrun with people since the end of lockdown and sadly most of these people who are wild camping and littering the country with their camper vans are not considering any of the things they should be. They are leaving their crap and loo paper everywhere and not respecting self distancing or mask wearing in the local shops etc. Nobody should consider wild camping anywhere unless they are prepared to dispose of their shit in the correct manner with a spade . Show respect to the people who live in these places . be responsible . Sadly not much of this in evidence at the moment..........
@@phineus8397 Wild Camping is fine but leaving litter and tents and shit is NOT. Sadly the experience in the Highlands and many other places is that many people just do not care and they leave everything for others to clear up.

Great vid as allways. Have you use your tarptent stratospire tent. looks like a good piece of kit. I'm 6-ft 1 and looking for a taller tent it seem like the only one I can find. Does the roof sag much plus you allways losse 5 to10cm for air bed. Always find it difficult finding tent with enough head height when sitting upright and £500 quid is a lot of money for tent. I'm planning to do the WHW next Easter & plan to camp in either Cashel or Sallochy campsite along Loch Lomond in 2 tents (2adults & 2kids).... I do still need to pay the £3 per tent on top of the campsite fees? Thanks
very helpful video! I never knew about the permit situation in Loch Lomond national park. Have you thought about using Permethrin on your gear? it keeps away most bug and prevents tick bites. Not sure if it will keep away a million midges though!
Hello! I’m Canadian and doing my first Scottish wild camp soon! I’m so stoked, but I do have questions about food preparation / storage. In North America we don’t cook at our campsites or keep food or any scented products in our tents while we sleep because of bears... as far as I know there’s no large dangerous wildlife here, but are there any precautions that need to be taken? Thanks so much 😊🏕
No large wildlife but plenty of miniature beasts like mice. So just be sure to keep open food locked up in an OP sack or something. 👍👍👍 thanks for watching

All I can say is...if you’re wild camping up here in Scotland, respect our beautiful country and leave no trace. It’s a total disgrace at the moment, camping rubbish left at everyone’s arses, unnecessary fire pits all over the place, human shit behind every bush around every camping area etc etc etc. If you’re carrying it in, carry it back out.

I was wildcamping around Galloway Forest Park recently and the amount of rubbish lying around was a disgrace. Someone had even left a cheap old tent and sleeping bag at a campsite. As Scot myself and a keen walker it’s sadly the “locals” or native Scots who I’ve found to be the most trouble. The temperatures rise and the inconsiderate clowns escape the the towns, head out to the lochs, get drunk and trash the place. Don’t get me wrong, not everyone who wants to get away for the weekend is like this but the vast majority of the chaos, I reckon, is caused by our own sadly. Frustrating for everyone.

That's why the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park camping permit byelaws were introduced...to try and curb all the numpties coming up from the central belt and trashing the place and ruining it for the people who genuinely enjoy it. Pisses me off
@@allanshillinglaw3083 not all numpties come from the central belt mate , last year i was wild camping at loch awe and a group of lads from aberdeen left their pitches in a right state ! Ended up taking half their crap away myself !
It appears that those bylaws only apply to 4% of lochlomond. Which means that i can wild camp anywhere (outside of that 4%) even if its outside of the main season (after september) ?
I am planning a trip to the loch Lomond area to hike some of the Munros in the area over a weekend and I have a question about the wild camping restrictions. Is it that you can only camp in one of the designated areas or can you camp anywhere but specifically need a permit to camp in one of these areas?
I live in Scotland and am a respectful outdoorsman. I wouldn't go camping anywhere in Scotland at the minute because everywhere that is written about on the internet is a complete nightmare right now. Every man and his dog is out camping right now, beaches and wilds being trashed by assholes, sheer volume of people is too much for the land to cope with. Feels more like camping at a grubby festival. Police and council workers are telling people to go home and some are being arrested for the state they're leaving the place in. Don't be that person. If you are going to go camping here, be smart about where you go and treat the place with respect, it's right to roam not right to behave like a moron. You may be told to go home by police. There is a real trend right now in lockdown of publishers and RU-vidrs doing "let's go camping in Scotland for lockdown" videos and articles. This has to stop, or at least talk more about how people are ruining it and it's more like camping in a garbage dump. I live up here and love wild camping. But I wouldn't go until the madness stops. Please think carefully about camping here.
And don't leave all you're crap ( literally ) and rubbish lying all over the place like everyone has been doing since lockdown was relaxed, its absolutely heaving in the highlands and a small few are ruining it for everyone else 😡
They are now trying to ban wild camping here in Scotland, we know why, it is so we cannot get away from what is coming! They won't stop me nor anyone I know, this is our land!!!
